**Due to music copyright we had to edit some of the audio around **45:48**-**46:18**. So that portion of the film’s dialogue is a little choppy/damaged - we’ll put the text transcript below for that section if you’d like to see what was said.**
**Music was also erased from **23:27**-**23:44** but there’s no dialogue in this section and our commentary remains - but the audio quality is a bit damaged.**

      - Do I believe in God? Yeah, I guess I do. How else can you have the sun, moon and stars
      - If there was a God, why he be letting m************ get smoked every night? Babies and little kids you tell me that.
      - You tell me this, n*****. How you know God's a He? He could be a She. You don't know that.
      - For one thing, you don't know what the f*** I be m************ knowing. It was this book, right, and it was telling life in the perspective if God was a b****.
      - Why every time you talk about a female you gotta say b**** or h** or h*******?
      - Because that's what you are.
      - N****, f*** you.

You know how much they paid for it? It sure as hell wasn't no 250k lmao they paid $79k. You will NEVER get a brand new built from the ground up house for 79k anymore. The house is worth like 5 times it's value. Even my family in Cali they paid UNDER 250K for there houses back in the 80's and now those same damn houses are worth over half a MILLION. You would be lucky to be able to find even a shack in Cali for under 300k. YES it was much EASIER to buy a house back then off of ONE income. For example this video was supposed to be out in February. 🙃 - And this isn’t an ad but you’d have a better chance of getting us to react to a request sooner over on Patreon in our Series Regular tier as it’s a smaller community and we’re able to do more of the requests. Among the best things I love about Boyz n The Hood is Doughboy for his character and story development and Ice Cube’s performance in the role.
Cube at the time was among the emerging hip-hopers in the 90s with his debut solo album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted after leaving NWA.
The guy may not have had attended drama class in school, never did a film, never did a TV show or a stage show but it was the encouragement from John Singleton due to their friendship that convinced Cube to get the part of Doughboy.
John Singleton met Ice Cube when he was a member of backstage crew at the Arsenio Hall Show and even though Cube turned down the offer a couple times, I’m beyond glad he accepted the offer.
For an inexperienced actor in a cinematic debut, Ice Cube did an awesome job playing Doughboy. He played the role as if he (Cube himself) never had a dad, is the subject of ridicule and verbal abuse by his mum who favours a brother of his and ends up as as a Rollin 60s Crip. He did it so damn convincingly that he should’ve got an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe - all three for “Best Supporting Actor” and MTV Movie Award for “Best Breakthrough Performance”.
This was long before Cube did the Friday films (film series he also wrote/produced), Are We There Yet?, xXx 2 and 3, Fist Fight, Ride Along, 21/22 Jump Street, Ghost of Mars, the Barbershop films, Rampart, Tresspass etc
If the Marc Webb-directed and Andrew Garfield-starred Amazing Spider-Man films were to conclude with a 3rd film (a 4 hour 3rd film to end the story) and if Ice Cube appeared in it - he would’ve been J Jonah Jameson (Daily Bugle newspaper boss). Imagine Andrew Garfield and Ice Cube in the same room! Wasted/missed opportunity in my opinion.

I get what you mean but we just wanted a film that focused on a black story whether it was a historical figure or a story about an everyday person - because both are important. We had options of both on our poll but this was what the audience voted for and to be fair this film is an important one for the history John Singleton made with it and for what it did for black creatives in the industry.

    • @ActorsWatchingActors

Thanks! 😊 - Perhaps we will change it but we’re not sure as the film was suggested and voted on by subscribers for BHM. We just ran into a bunch of difficulties and it didn’t come out until now. This film and the other selected films for Pride, AAPI Heritage Month & Women’s History Month will all be coming out after the fact as well but we still want to honor what they were selected for (as we will when we catch up to honor films/months in the future). Hopefully we can be more timely moving forward though!
