Classic Game Room reviews MIMANA IYAR CHRONICLE for Sony PSP from Aksys. This lengthy Japanese role playing game for PSP has players exploring a massive world by finding their way through mazes and solving quests and adventures. Start of as Crais who is hired by Sophie and build up your experience by slaughtering piles of enemies in random encounters. Mash buttons or cast magic spells in Mimana Iyar Chronicle as you beat up giant lobsters, sheep, chickens and Jello-O shapes. Mimana Iyar Chronicle may not be the most exciting game out there, but for those looking for aredictable Japanese style role playing game with anime and random encounters on the PSP, check out Mimana. Finally picked this game up for 25 bucks even thanks to this awesome review came across a mint condition at my local arcade game store.
I just watched about 10 vids from CGR and wow I had no idea the PSP had so many cool looking RPG's. Time to dust off my PSP.

Not a lot of JRPGs for PSP:
Jeanne D' Arc, Disgaea 1 and 2, Brave Story, Persona 2 and 3, Ys Seven, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Valkyrie Profile, Hexyz Force, Phantasy Star 3-4 via Gen collection, FF1, FF2, FFIV, FFVII, Legend of Dragoon, FFVIII, FFIX, FF Tactics,Class of Heroes 1 and 2, Crimson Gem Saga, Xenogears, Breath of Fire 3 and 4.
Remakes and straight up ports shouldn't really count bro. And more than half of what you listed are that. What few the PSP does have are pretty good but yeah it doesn't have many.

Why shouldn't they count? They have more content than their console versions.
Minus the PSN/PSOne stuff they're all around better, with arguably the exception being Persona 3 Portable.
There's more RPGs I didn't list because I simply don't have them, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean 1 and 2, Grow Lanser, Phantom Brave, Gungnir, Half Minute Hero, Innocent Life, PoPolo Crois, Ragnarok Tactics, Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2, Tactics Ogre, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Valhalla Knights.
And that's just the JRPG list, not counting things like Sid Meiers Pirates, Untold Legends 1 and 2

I thought the PSP and the Vita were made for us... the JRPG fans.. these games were/ are the life line of Sony hand helds. Well not THIS game per se, but JRPGs in general...

they have it on umd, nice thing is they have a limited edition version out right now with a bunch of extras which is pretty cool

OH....!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH.! So cute characters ... nice places ... Exciting stories ... I love the story so much .. some of the scenes here makes me cry .. especially on the Ishtall Ruins .. This game might be easy but it's totally worth it ..
The voice acting in this seems surprisingly GOOD... That's not common in anime-style RPGs...
and it takes a while to walk anywhere cause ur constantly fighting giant lobsters and things... MADE MY DAY XD
Wow, spells don't home in on targets. That's like NES levels of programming right there. Looks cool but I'm still working through a stack of better PSP games.
that bothered me at first but then I understood the fighting style of this game reminds me of an arcade style. one of the main reasons why I like this game, complete voice overs. the main characters voice is the same guy who does Ichigo from Bleach. and I believe Gaara from Naruto is in there too as for some more that I recognize from other games. not a very technical gameplay but to me it still pleasing
Great review and I enjoy all your vids. I did want to mention that you said that the PSP does not get many games like this, and I would kind of disagree. When they came out, I would say there were around 40 JRPG's on the system. Granted the DS does have more, but seeing as it's the only other current system that even has a good library of RPG's means it is pretty stocked for the most part. I would say there is around 50 now available on the PSP.
Im playing this game and having a hard time staying interested. I haven't found much reason to use magic outside of healing, they're super slow to cast when you can just hack and slash your way through everything pretty effortlessly, also no specials. The story is OK, though it seems to drag itself especially at the beginning when your stuck with just crais and sophie in the party, bad dub doesn't help either. the dungeon crawling makes exploration boring thanks to the frequent random battles.

@Jiyaijo rating numbers mean squat really. you either wanna keep playing it, or you dont. thats why i like mark, he says if he likes it or not and doesnt put some obnoctious number at the end of it as if it means that much. it seems he bases his reviews on what he feels...not the games popularity or what hes told to say...but im getting off topic >_>
however, im not really a japanes rpg fan, theres some that look interesting though but i dunno...i prefere western rpgs really

for your information Lord karnage, apparently you didn't talk to a certain little guy in a town because if you did you would know at the combat is anything but button smashing. you have to time your button presses when you attack

Yikes... It's been a while since I've heard of new game with such hamhanded voice acting. Sweet review though, I'm gonna look up the game!
Fun, but not really worth a full $35. I thought it was going to be amazing with that price considering kingdom hearts BBS is only $20 now. It'd be worth it, if it was maybe half that price.
The fighting scenes look like they are from a beat-em-up. Is that how it is or am I missing something?

The protagonist's voice actor is without doubt the same person who voiced Adachi from P4.
Its an okay game. But like he said, it takes a while to get into. Its not an amazing game though, like for example Y's 7.
ive been playing it now...and the reason why it makes me continue the game is because its a fully voiced game when it comes to cutscenes and events.. because for me an rpg games should have a voice actors to make the games and the story more lively..the emotions they give to the script are good...even its a traditional japanese rpg you wont get bored because of the voice actors..

this game is...not really balanced out...sometimes, when u equip with the highest defense, u still get attacked like normal...and its freaking annoying when u cant get to somewhere and frequently encounter random monsters even if u use repel called Spirit Drops, u still get same amount of frequent encounter...
I hate this game. Its not just one thing that causes me to hate this game with all of my gaming fiber. Maybe it was the three course meal animals, maybe its the mazes or maybe its the 'i hate kids' lines that the Main character says over and over and over again.

I took a look at the company who created this and thought it was a clear rip off. Thank you for correcting me. Looks like its not a rip off after all, but rather a spiritual successor.

Well, not really, but one time I had a freaky crazy nightmare about demon tiberium mutant sheep from Command and Conquer.

Johnny Young Bosch, I believe his name is. He does a lot of games and anime. I personally enjoy it when I get the pleasant surprise of hearing his voice when I'm playing a new RPG.

i hate it when the main character is the only male in the game. why is the only dude the leader? If the game is about girls, the main character should be a girl jeez.

The easy way to the defeat the giant lobster its to attack his hit point for massive damage. :P
This is a good game but the random encouters are just too much. It is a pity, because technically and the whole history, comments, etc. are really interesting.
@Dramoir mass effect is kind of an rpg in the same way that stalker is, and yes it is worth it. btw have you tried disgaea? that might be worth looking into.
The voice acting in this game makes me want to destroy a children hospital. Good lord, it sucks.
This doesn't look good as a game. If it was a manga I'd read it for the girls and the comedy but I dunno, as a game it just doesn't seem good enough.
I decided to get the Psp. I have not regretted my decision. But that does not mean I'm a sony fanboy. Infact I have a gameboy advance, and a gamecube.

The animation on the cutscenes seems similar to what has been seen in Saber Marionette J. Did the animation studio responsable work in this game?
I love RPGs but this one looks mediocre.

@VayuPurana he was Guy in Tales of the abyss so i have heard Johnny´s voice quite a lot in games and so on, but he really does a good job.
Is it just my game, or are some of the walls in this game not solid (I can walk through them)? specifically in the ruins dungeon.

Mimanas fun its just short and quick in levels. Battle play is cool. Like the dude said its quick to pass the time.
I almost expected a giant bottle of root beer to actually appear after you said that. Well, (fortunately?) it did not.

Giant Lobsters awsome. This gameplay looks good but the anime is an eyesore for sure
