  • If you want to know how to get the absolute highest bunny hops, this is the video for you.
    I'll show you how you can use the technique I taught you in the last video to get to heights of 70 cm to one meter and above.
    And I've got a little challenge for Mike Boyd. ;)

    I just wanted to thank you for teaching me how to manual for long distances and 180 nose pivot.
    Bunny hops kinda evolved naturally out of the manuals, when I tried to hop over things on my daily commute and they are pretty decent.
    Currently I'm trying to learn fakies.

    it blows my mind how i've seen and been practicing bunny hops for over 2 years now, yet you still somehow managed to find some tips that i've never heard of before. i'm excited to try them out soon
    and i would love to see a collab with Ali, maybe a game of bike or some contest. you both make top notch guides with great explanations and ideas, so it would be a blast to see both of you riding or just making a video or two.
    also since Mike did his wheelie, manual and back wheel hops videos, i was hoping and waiting for more bike related stuff, mostly some bunny hop goal. and if he actually accepted that challenge of yours, chances are you'd finally get some more very well deserved audience, while we'd also get a fun video to watch. a win-win for everybody

    What is the minimum amount of handlebar rise you would recommend for a regular trail/xc bike to help with pedal kicks and other trial moves?

  • @luca.morell
    @luca.morell 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dropping the rear pedal at the beginning of every hop might be subconscious but it serves a purpose: You do a Pedal-Kick for additional energy and hight

    • @TheUselessTrials
      @TheUselessTrials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's actually not true. If you look at the slomo from the side, you can see that the cranks stay rotated back until I'm already in the air.
      You can try a chainless bunny hop and it will feel exactly the same.

      @@TheUselessTrials Now I´m very curious, not only about who is right, but more about what is the right technique. I teach a lot of biker and I don´t want to tell them something wrong. So as soon as I have my bike up and running I will get rid of the chain and try it. When hopping over 60 or more cm I fell like I get extra height out of the chain tension and the kick. And after watching the clip of you at about 7.25 I still think I see a lot of chaintension and you getting an impulse out of the kick, but I will have to try it myself first to conclude anything. What I´m watching is not the pedal position in general but I am looking whether there is some force on the rear cog, I think when you drop your front foot it is more like a soccer player swinging his foot even though he has already hit the ball. But hey I will test it first and get back to you. Keep making those great videos!

      Will be interesting to hear your results! I'm fairly certain I don't use any pedal pressure in my bunnyhops.
      But 'pedal-ups' are a legitimate technique in trials. They're a replacement for bunny hops on competition bikes, because they are super hard to get onto the rear wheel without pedalling. But in that move the pedalling is quite prominent. You usually do more than one full crank - a bit like a mixture of a wheelie and a bunny hop.

    • @TheUselessTrials
      @TheUselessTrials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't thinkt there is a difference with dirt jump bikes, as the seat is equally low and you can use exactly the same technique.
