      Hi Bill, can you make a video of:
      Why did you leave your last job?
      How do I answer that question safely but I am AWOL on my first and last job.. Should I lie or should I say the truth?

    • @almoniousor3112

      Thanks, and Yes, it is a good peek into the recruiter's way of thinking.
      If I may: How to you reenter the job market after leaving it for some years ? I thought I can retire (real-time programmer).. I guessed wrong (and invested wrong, smart as it was). How do you explain that Big Gaps in the resume?

    Interesting stuff 👍🏻. After quite a few years in business (and very happily retired now) I came to the conclusion that the whole interview process is almost pointless with one exception- you can weed out nutcases, odd balls and BS merchants but there is almost no way of choosing the right person thereafter. It’s all theatre and being good at interviews is rather like being a good actor holding the attention of the audience. Unfortunately after the performance is over and the day to day work starts the acting skills are no longer useful. Eventually I reached the conclusion that I needed to tick only two boxes: did I actually ‘like’ the person and their aura and did they seem like a tryer who’d roll their sleeves up and give stuff a go as opposed to someone more likely to look for excuses and bumble along. Likability and enthusiasm count for a lot in my opinion.

    • @julien5053
      @julien5053 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Absolutly. HR and recruiters usually don't really know the day to day job, they think they know but they don't.
      I'm very bad at acting, so I usually fail the job interviews done by HR, but I almost always succefully get the job when I'm interviewed by the ones doing the job.
      One recruiter once tell me that he eliminated me because I didn't smile enough during the interview.
      My job is very numbers centric, very analytic, very technical. Do you really think that it is a requirement to always smile in my job ? I'm a senior in my job with 7 years of experience, actually in one of the largest company in my country for this kind of job, the answer is : No. That's a shitty selection criteria.

    I am glad I found your channel. I recently had an interview for a research analyst position at a California community college. I wanted to ask, when and how should I thank a screening committee for giving me the opportunity to interview for a position. Also, towards the end of the interview, how should I answer, "What concerns or questions do you have?" I always ask, "What was it about my resume that resonated with the needs of your organization? Maybe I can elaborate on that if I haven't already done so."

    Hi Bill,
    What you're saying here is applicable for a "typical" job interview, where the recruiter publishes the vacancy and lots of people apply. Thanks for that, very insightful.
    However, I will appreciate a video on the same, but where you're head-hunted. And you have to sit in a café (well, we don't do that today because of covid) or over video call, so that the recruiter tries to get a sense of who you are and if you'd fit in the culture of the organization, etc.
    Thanks.

    • @TheCompaniesExpert
      @TheCompaniesExpert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're dealing with a recruiter, this is the answer I would give. If you're dealing with a hiring manager that has actually referred you (meaning you didn't apply and the job hasn't been posted) but they still ask *THIS* question, I still would give this answer.

    good stuff. Do you have any experience with recruiters that have no idea what the job entails? How to deal with this? Is it the norm? I am changing my career to do some travel (I am an MRI tech). I have had online conversations with numerous recruiters. They are very superficial, yes I know. In the healthcare travel industry, this is pretty much the norm until you find the job you want, and at that time you talk to the actual manager or supervisor at the location. Meantime you have to deal with several recruiters from the travel staff companies. The problem that I have come up against is the recruiters do not have any knowledge about the details of the job. So it becomes a huge back and forth numerous times to find out this information. Wouldn't it be easier for them to just have at least a paragraph from the job stating the equipment and protocols, and a few basic things instead of all this back and forth? Or is this the norm for healthcare recruiters? I have not been in the travel tech world in many years so I am trying to figure it out.

    Hey Bill, I've recently been asked in interviews, directly after this question, "tell me about your family life." After answering this, I feel like something I say here causes me to be eliminated because when this question is not asked, I move to the next round. Any thoughts on how to get around this? 🤔

    • @yogeshghadge5748
      @yogeshghadge5748 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As far as I know this question is just asked to check your family background. Many times company sees that whether if your family will be completely dependent on you or not. If your family is dependent on you then it signifies that you might not be able to work at different locations depending on companies requirements.
