Dusty's voice is a fine tuned instrument. This song, the lyrics, the poetic verse, the stair steps of notes, the dissonance, the resolve, the windmill like spinning/turning of melody, the circles, the depth, unbelievable masterpiece!

The wonderful Dusty Springfield. A beautiful voice, smoky and soulful. God, she could hold a tune.

Dusty toured South Africa in 1964 and was the first international artist to challenge the apartheid regime. She had it written into her contract that she would only sing to mixed audiences and stood by that. The South African authorities deported her as a result. It was a huge deal in the news. As she walked across the tarmac to the waiting plane, the black airport ground staff formed a guard of honour and doffed their caps to her. She was fierce!

Shirley Bassey was vilified for singing in South Africa before apartheid. Easy for white people to be political - not easy for black singers born in the 1930s. Shirley Bassey though my idol is apparently not a pleasant person offstage but she had to overcome such racism especially touring America when segregation was still in practice. Dusty though I like her cannot compare to the Dame Shirley Bassey. White people had it so easy. ( im white btw).

Hello from España. Glad that you love Dusty. I have been a huge fan since early 60's. Her legacy is enormous! Take a listen to her last album 'A very fine love', very different to early recordings but.....still Dusty xx

Agreed, there are some lovely tracks on that last album in a more 'country' style. I listen to Rocio Jurado, Luz, and Antonio Machin - such beautiful voices.

Thanks for doing a reaction to this Dusty gem. Her version of this song is the best.
If you haven't already, do a reaction to her version of Tupelo Honey, Just a Little Lovin, and Breakfast in Bed.

Absolutely beautiful, I’m not English or American so am neutral, the Brits have the most innovative, classy style ever. Please can you do more Dame Shirley Bassey ( huge fan). I adore her performances as opposed to just vocals. BTW I’m sure you could sing, your speaking voice is BEAUTIFUL! You have such charisma-

I remember the original version by Noel Harrison (had to write an essay at school with the title “The Windmills of your Mind”…).

I wasn't too keen on this the first time I heard it. It seemed out of place on the Memphis album but the more times I hear it the better I like it.

How about some more music by YES the greatest progressive rock group. How about "Close to the Edge" or "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium". "Turn of the Century", "That, That Is"... Loads of good ones.
