Bang Chan (the leader) was allowed to pick the group members from the fellow trainees he had worked with at the company, and the survival show was really just a way to introduce the group to the public before their debut. No other kpop group had ever been formed this way before so it was a real gamble for JYP (the company) but it's definitely paid off!

My experience with a lot of K-groups is that they can start to sound a little similar to each other. But groups like BTS & Stray Kids are always putting out very fresh and original music that rarely reminds you of another K-group. I think this is a key reason why both groups are so successful. When I first began exploring BTS three years ago, it was a while before I ventured out to explore other groups. As you well know, BTS has enough material to keep you occupied for a while.😜 But the first was Stray Kids, with the song/MV MANIAC, which made me an instant fan. SO inventive and fun. As BangChan says in this MV, they really do break through all the walls. Their use of the Z axis to get right in your face is so, so cool.
