Plaice Fishing on Beesands beach over two tides.

Plaice Fishing on Beesands Beach in Devon, we catch some lovely plaice and demonstrate the rigs and bait we use to catch them, we also try to get some underwater footage of the plaice and we were partially successful but a good day was had by all.

Great video Kevin! As I mentioned on another of your videos, just trying to catch up on some older local videos tonight. I grew up in Kingsbridge so know Beesands well - my father was a mate of Cyril that used to own the Cricket inn! I'm guessing I'm not far from your base now, so hope to meet up one day! I live in Torbay and have only fished Beesands once (1 doggie). When is the best time to fish Beesands for Plaice and what other species are you likely to catch. I parked by the football pitch last time but was told we couldn't park there. Any advice on bait, tactics etc much appreciated.

+Derek Hopcroft hi Derek, any time from now on really the weather needs to settle a bit more and the water just to clear, park down by the slipway and walk up until you find a spot, when the fishing takes off the plaice come from all along, baits are normally rag worms but half a crab will take the better specimens but casting out and letting a plain weight roll around is the best option, doing this at first light when the beach is quite empty is the best option, recently the has been some rays caught and some hounds but it's still a bit early in the year, also if beesands is packed slapton is also a great plaice venue using the same tactics, both of these beaches have made a bit of a resurgence over the past couple of years so let's hope it continues, tight lines let me know how you get on.

Hi Kevin, I’m thinking of fishing at beesands soon have never fished it before normally fish chesil where is the best place to fish from and what tides are best. Keep the videos coming it’s nice to watch a normal person who doesn’t think they are the best!

Simon Robins Hi Simon, ok the beach has changed quite a lot from all the storms so I would suggest
Walk from the boat ramp up, just be careful and make sure you can get up if the tide comes up, low tide up I feel is best ok, the more movement in the tide to move your lead the better, hope that helps.

Hi Kevin. Just asking how far were you casting when you were catching the Plaice and what worms did you use?

Hello you can catch at most distances but most fish are over 100 yards or so, medium sized rag worms but let the weight roll around for best results, use a boobie bead to add rattle to your bait and you should do ok.

I think that 100 yards might be a struggle for me, I could probably cast 70 or 80. I saw that you pendulum cast too. I have tried but I didn't go very well. I will try for some Plaice at Chesil Beach in the summer. Cheers Kevin.

+JJCWhitey56 Don't worry fish over low tide on a spring so 2 hours down and 2 hours up and you should be able to reach the fish which are on the cockle beds ok

G W ah it’s the wyvern comp this weekend, unfortunately I can’t make it but traditionally good catches come from the white sign just up from the tank car park and about 200 yards, no need to cast far out there although it’s worth giving all distances a go but the beach has changed a lot, mac strip for a big whitting and some stinky blacks for a nice flattie, small hooks size 2, there have been a few thornies caught lately on blue/squid cocktails, I hope that helps
