  • They scam unsuspecting victims all across the world - but they are victims themselves. Thousands of people are trafficked worldwide into Myanmar's war-torn east, where they are forced to trick people in Europe, the US, and China into scam schemes.
At KK Park, one of the most notorious facilities, those who refuse risk torture and even murder. Their only hope are a handful of aid workers trying to help them escape.
DW's investigative unit goes to the borderlands of Thailand and Myanmar to track down the perpetrators behind this multi-million-euro operation. Along the way, they uncover a vast criminal network that leads to a notorious Chinese Triad boss.

More than 1,000 victims of human trafficking had been freed from scam factories in Myanmar, the vast majority of them Chinese nationals. The operation coordinated by authorities from China, Thailand and Myanmar comes one month after the publication of this documentary. Someone I know was scammed and went to Thailand after being promised a well-paid job. After his landing at the airport in Bangkok , a car picked him up. The ride went on for many hours although he had been told on the phone when he was still in South Sudan that the workplace was just a few minutes outside the city. When he asked the driver where they were going to, the driver turned aggressive and didn’t give him good answers . That is when he realised that something wasn’t right. To find a way to escape, he acted relaxed and pretended to be so happy. He cracked a few jokes which he wasn’t sure were funny enough to the driver. After some time, he acted like he really needed to pee. He asked the driver to stop the car so that he could pee otherwise he would wet his pants. The driver reluctantly stopped the car. The guy opened the door , moved out of the car and walked down the road like he was looking for a spot to pee. Then he ran into the jungle and then walked for many hours until he found his way back to the city and reported himself to the police station.

That someone you know is not so much into Greed and can realise the situation fast enough due to this rational mindset, unlike most of the victims that prefers the wait-and-see strategy then ended themselves in a much worse condition that's much harder for them to escape such conditions, cos after they reach the den, all of their actions and communications will be monitored/controlled, like rabbits housed by wolves
(the stories, the lion is the king, the tiger is the police, the elephant is the scholar, the wolves run in packs, the sheep sacrifices)
This is too common when massive population meets capitalism
One type of Greed meets another type of Greed for 'betterment'
Mass breeding/population or the chasing for money/rich all over the world, which 'sadly'/'unfortunately' is fundamentally realised through slavery ,by taking advantage of the global environment(pre-built social structure), or/and the newbies that's going to get hard lessons learned, the lessons that's often (intentionly or unintentionly) omitted during their learning process, usually in schools, and also always in homes that prioritize money(the so-called 'wealth' by most) over anything else
The global environment provides perfect conditions for such things to happen, this is the era of mass greed in human history, ppl are raised for slavery, just like the cattles raised for slaughter
When you ask the parents in such regions, why they keep (popping) kids, most will answer for 'betterment', this betterment often means better than money for the vast majority, one that keeps bring money, is called never ending money, best investment ever, money printing machine is also realised/created under such environment in this sense that there will not be kids willing to keep bringing money after such scam is known globally/publicly as the new common sense, better print it 'ourselves', this is why you see never ending 'money' flowing into the 'market'/'society' during the recent century, and ppl keep falling into such 'scams', cos you have to get 'scammed' to get 'money', since 'money' itself has become 'scam'
That's why you see they are often ignored by the 'authorities', as this is also seen as a driver for the 'economy', a necessarity to make 'money' 'useful', to 'realise' the 'scam' into 'money', therefore, 'scam' becomes 'money', 'money' becomes 'scam', this is a natural process and ppl will continue to get processed under this environment

As a victim of this scam, my life has changed ever since, every night haunts me. The scammer was based in Busan and scammed 25000$ of my hardworking students saving over a period of 6 months. They are such well trained with conversation that made them think legit, with photos, video, voice text and so on. Throughout the conversation, I pulled out the fact that they have scammers accounts located Japan, South Korea, France, Latvia, UK, India, US. I was so scared when I got to know my mistake but it was already late. I am ashamed of myself. It is easier to judge others who get scammed until you're the part of it.

how\s that news.. these things are going on for decades already , in mid 2000s already.. online scam factories have always existed.
not exactlyh scams... but in video game industries there's "gold farmers" , who use bot farms to generate currencies in the game... and sell those currencies for real money for lazy people...
same kind of slavery work practically,. good example of late i can think of is the Venezuela runescape goldfarms.... where grandmothers and kids grind gold in Runescape videogame... and earn 2-3$/h
can you imagine a videogame from 1998-1999 having better economy than your country, and earning more than your PhD educated doctors and scientists....

Most of these scam compounds are located in lawless corrupted countries where there is little or no transparency among the elites in those countries like Cambodia for example where the scam ringleaders whom were mostly corrupted businessmen accused of money laundering and other scammers from China were facing charges as a result of China’s effective strong efforts to crackdown on these scam epidemics located within China’s borders. Acknowledging this, these ringleaders and all the other scammers then fled to other countries mostly to Southeast Asian nations most notably in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos where corruption is a huge problem and these scam ringleaders and bosses often pose as “investors” gaining trust and confidence from the elites there in order to “invest and transform” their sleepy towns like Sihanoukville in Cambodia for example into a buzzing metropolis that will attract and encourage more Chinese investors and tourists in the form of gambling and 5 star retail and hotel hub. These ringleaders also changed their names and even acquired Cambodian citizenship and one of them even became PM Hun Sen’s right hand man. But in reality, these “hotels” and “retail hubs” are actually compounds for underground scam operations and the criminals can continue with their scamming activities and they recruit their workers via fake job offers and these unsuspecting job seekers were then kidnapped and locked in to those compounds and forced to scam and if they even try to resist, they would be met with brutal punishment like beatings, electrocution and even worse, being sold off to a different scam compound elsewhere. Not only Myanmar and Cambodia, these scam ringleaders and other groups of scammers also set up shop in countries like Philippines and Indonesia where they would operate in places and towns where it is isolated and less crowded so that nobody can suspect their whereabouts.
