I wish this was circulated in the progressive schools of our society. It may be based on the act of driving, but it is a discussion around the general human agency as Mr. Crawford would call it. I find it absolutely brilliant.

I live in the City of York, and the city centre, within the Medieval Walls, is overwhelmingly driverless. Of course it is also overwhelmingly carless - and what a radical, pleasant change it is from my previous hangout of Gaithersburg, MD.

Huizinger: play is the balance of comradeship and hostility.

While living in Ho Chi Minh City I used to watch the massive street intersections with thousands of scooters and cars flowing in multiple directions. Throw in pedestrians walking across the street and it is an amazing sight to see. All the concepts discussed in the book are at play with one concept not explored. That is the one that is almost religious, one based on Buddhism. And that is, they never concern themselves with the driver behind them, and they treat the past in a similar way. Whereas, we sure look in the mirror a large percentage of time. Also, they use French farm road rules, mainly drivers merging from the right have right a way as an example. What it really means is that we as drivers are responsible not to run into something in front of us. And to trust the person behind you is doing the same and doesn't want to have an accident.

This is bunk. When you give up walking for driving you have already atrophied.

It's about degrees of atrophy. We cant go back to foraging.

Take a look around. Civilization is atrophied. You want to eliminate modes of liberation too

Read the book... you will come away with a different perspective than just "flimsy take". Mr Crawford makes the case quite well.
