Many folks out there shopping for HID kits are hesitant to purchase simply due to the fact that they don't know what color will best suit their needs. When we purchased our first HID kit we had the same concern. We searched and searched all over the web for the best comparison of HID kit colors. What we found, however, was a single image, continuously photoshopped to artificially modify the color appearance in the photo.
In an effort to provide an accurate representation of the color you can expect out of each model of HID kit out there, we installed ten different color temperatures in our test vehicle.
    3,000K - Yellow
    4,300K - Pure White
    5,000K
    6,000K
8,000K - Brightest we tested and pure white/blue
    10,000K
    12,000K
    15,000K
    20,000K
    30,000K - Approaching purple
In addition to these video shots we also measured the light output of each HID kit, and posted the results on our website:
    www.headlightre...
Additionally, we took photos of each installation and have pictures of each on our website for your reference:

If you wanna have high visibility at night go no higher than 6000.
The only real difference between 5 and 6 is the hint of blue when pointed at a white surface.
4300 k will be white with a bit of yellow. However, it will provide the most visibility.

yea the light kept adjusting to focus... Was is me or did that 20,000K look crazy brighter than the 5000K kit?
I like the 3000K HID which is good for the rain. You see the ground much better with a 4300K-7000K low beams
and a brighter contrast color like yellow which shines better with the blue compliment. IMO I like that combo.
But why is that 20,000K so much brighter?

what kit would you recommend for my horse drawn kart I'm currently running a twin candel setup and I can hardly see past the back end of ma horses arse, she's a big old mare at 17 n a half hands. I'm also having trouble fitting a alternator to the old mare so any electrics would have to run for a while on a precharged 12v battery.

Yeah, use LED not HID. A twin 55W HID setub would draw 110W, nearly 1/6 of your available power (assuming a 1 hp engine, since it is an actual horse). This is a significant load for the horse to pull, even without considering alternator losses.

@Lost BorderlineSoul LMAO 😂 But within the mediums of air, 3000k to 5000k temperature lights perform the best. I can’t see anything with those bluish and purple tints and it makes matters worse be depleting contrast in distant objects with that obnoxious hue that is at a wavelength that seems almost, but not quite fuzzy and disorienting to the eye. I’ve ran those blue and purple lights before and yellow just seems to be the best choice.

Currently I have the Kensun 35w in 12000K HIDs in my car and they look great! I love them during the daytime too because they have a bluish diamond tint to them. I tend to go with the bluer tones as they look more luxurious. Everyone has their own personal taste. IDK, unless the camera settings/color balance, etc are 100% the same, then any 'auto' setting will ALWAYS try to adjust to a whiter shade, thus making the differences less visible than real life. Maybe they did? Consumer digital cameras are very hard to render accurate color in this kind of test.

So yeah, The higher the number, the higher the temperature of the light bulb is.
Just like stars, the stars that look blue is because they are at a temperature higher than 6000°k
The stars that look redish or orange is because its temperature is lower than 4000°k
And the withe stars are between 4000°k and 6000°k

I've found that somewhere between 4,300k and 6,000k is the sweet spot between different brands. If you're comparing 6,000k across brands, they will actually look somewhat different in person. A lot of the kits are made in China, some at the same factories, but others not. So, it makes it tough to compare across brands. If you want, you can order two colors and then return the color you don't like!

The 8000K kits start to get more blue and you lose a little bit of the brighness that you're hoping to keep. Here's a color comparison of the different colors Kensun offers. So now I'm asking what is the color that LED's usually give you? It's like a fluorescent or white with a very, very tiny hint of violet?

Lmao.. Very false!! I used to run 8500k in all my trucks even had pink 30k bulbs in the old lady's car back when we were younger, like 12 years ago... Now I run 6500k in both my truck and her jeep and they are perfect.... Never once has anyone had to "strain their eyes" looking at the road with any of the headlights I've ever ran... Be the 6500k 8500k or 30,000k... Even the 30,000k kit was a million times brighter than the shitty ass factory halogen bulbs I replaced in her car... So the idea that anything over 5k is a waste of money is just ignorant and flat out wrong

    • @Headlightreviews1
      @Headlightreviews1  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

sikkNOS So it sounds like you're looking to go extra blue! Here's a link that shows a side-by-side of all of Kensun's kits. The higher you go, the less color output you get from the bulb. So, we'd recommend going with the 20K. It's probably the balance between color and brightness you're looking for.

+agenthelios1 I personally wouldn't use anything above 6000, but that's just my taste. I actually am waiting on a 5000 conversion kit and new headlight assemblies for my mid 90s explorer. I want to have super bright headlights but don't want to be that asshole with the super blue painful headlights, so I bought 5000s with dual operating mode. High and low beams, or Bi-Xenon as they are commonly called. I am hoping that they are fully compatible with my headlight assemblies, as I did a lot of research and all of it pointed to HIDs not really liking reflective headlight housings. We'll see.
