    I have flown both x-plane and MSFS for over 20yrs. I am a retired airline pilot and here is my 2 cents: x-plane is more aerodynamically accurate, much easier to work with, comes with more features and the major thing that x-plane offers but MSFS does not: I can do whatever I want with x-plane aircraft, EG move, add and delete engines, change the shape of the wings and fuselage, add and delete components, design your own aircraft from scratch and fly it the same day. I have downloaded and flown NF-104 to space and back many many times. The end results are very close to NASA's documents. I built all the lifting bodies (M2F1, M2F2, M2F3, HL-10, X-24C) and flown them too, results are very close to what NASA advertised. I have flown Classic 747, 747-400, KC-135, B-720 on 3 engines and 2 engines. I had to tweak some of the numbers to make them fly like the real stuff. MSFS won't let U do any of the things I mentioned. Don't kill the messenger plz.

      I totally agree. I'm just an instrument rated private pilot. I want to use a flight simulator to practice approaches. I know they don't count for the FAA instrument requirements. However, it helps me practice the sequence of things I have to do in instrument flying. The scenery in midwest farmland in Xplane, is far superior to MSFS2020! I guess they left the "fly over country" out of MSFS. Maybe it's better in Californika.

    One other important thing for people to consider when choosing a flight simulator is the kind of flying they want to do. I fly VFR and used to use X-Plane 11; however, that sim needed me either to make my own ortho files (which was very time consuming) or to buy ortho products (which was very expensive). The upshot of this was that I was limited in the areas I could practice true VFR navigation using real-world charts. Microsoft Flight Simulator gives me ortho of virtually the whole world and, to be honest, the flight dynamics in MSFS are now so much improved that it made sense for me to stop using X-Plane and fly solely in MSFS.

      Hey Rich, yea, perfectly said.... I use x-plane for the higher level of customization myself, but for a VFR pilot that just needs solid graphics, MSFS is def the way to go.

    I tried both. MSFS is increasingly game oriented. A lot of fun, if you are into that. As an actual pilot, instructor, and aviation geek, I’d go with XPlane without hesitation. The devotion to REALISM is paramount in XPlane.

      Thanks! As a gamer, I can see where MSFS would be a great option, good graphics, just a fun time flying around different places. As a pilot, I want realism and training and accurate avionics that all work together just like the real aircraft. I can't wait to try out the gamification they have in MSFS 2024, but am currently still on X-Plane....

I am leaning towards X-plane 11. for my new sim if i can not figure out the roll issue with my controls and FS9. i can not justify the 500 price increase for x plane 12. it can not be that much better than 11

    I have over 400 hours in VR using MSFS. As a "casual" flight simmer, vr has been a game changer. You don't need 3 monitors, control panels, etc... all you need is a hotas, some pedals and a headset. You still need a powerful pc with a high end graphics card. I have only purchased some seasonal foliage add ons and a few stol planes. Again, I am the kind of player that only wants to fly in interesting weather, explore interesting terrain and airports etc. MSFS gives you a good bang for the buck for more casual flying.

    I've been in all this for 25 years. If you are a young person, you'd better go with MSFS. Because you should visit thousands of airports all around the globe. It is an exploration of the whole world. However. It will always be a July day (January in the Southern Hemisphere.) There are no seasons in the MSFS. You can "make up" snow. But it won't be real weather.
    X Plane creates an atmosphere. There are great mountains there, the right major roads, and coastlines. But it is not photo-realistic. It's not supposed to be.
    Some default airports are good (like LTFM/IST.) Some others (like HECA/CAI) are very basic. However, runways and taxiways are all right.
    Aircraft models are completely different. In my view, they are more realistic in X Plane. Not perfect (not enough inertia, for example) but more realistic.

    It’s funny how ppl say xplane for ifr msfs for vfr, i just want to know what’s the difference between both flight sims on pilot edge using a c 172.

    • @flightsimguides
      @flightsimguides  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When using pilot edge, you may not see a big difference, it's just used for radio communication with a virtual atc...
      Regards to why I recommend X-Plane for IFR flying...
      Both X-Plane Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator have their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flying. However, it is important to note that the choice between the two ultimately depends on personal preferences and requirements. Here are some reasons why some users might consider X-Plane Flight Simulator better for IFR flying:
      Flight Model and Realism: X-Plane is renowned for its flight physics and realistic aircraft behavior. It simulates the aerodynamic forces and aircraft handling more accurately, which can be beneficial for IFR flying where precise control and instrument interpretation are crucial.
      Detailed Instrument Systems: X-Plane offers a wide range of highly detailed and accurately simulated aircraft systems, including instrument panels and avionics. This level of realism can enhance the IFR experience by providing more accurate instrument readings, realistic autopilot functionality, and simulated failures.
      Third-Party Add-Ons: X-Plane has a vibrant community of third-party developers who create and release high-quality add-ons such as aircraft, scenery, and plugins. These add-ons often include highly realistic IFR-focused aircraft and instruments, allowing users to further enhance their IFR flying experience with more advanced features and systems.
      Customization and Flexibility: X-Plane provides users with extensive customization options, allowing them to tailor the simulator to their specific needs. This flexibility is particularly valuable for IFR flying, where pilots often have different preferences regarding the layout of their instrument panels, the availability of specific avionics, or the inclusion of custom charts and navigation databases.
      Training and Education: X-Plane is widely used in aviation training and education due to its realism and accurate flight modeling. Many flight schools and professional pilots utilize X-Plane as a tool for practicing IFR procedures, honing instrument interpretation skills, and simulating complex scenarios. The availability of realistic IFR add-ons and the ability to create custom training scenarios make X-Plane a popular choice in this regard.
      While X-Plane offers advantages for IFR flying, it's worth mentioning that Microsoft Flight Simulator also has its strengths, such as stunning visual graphics, a massive selection of worldwide scenery, and an active user base. Ultimately, both simulators have their unique features, and the choice depends on individual preferences, priorities, and specific requirements for IFR flying.
      Hope this helps.

    Thank you for the video. Just comming with my few coins.
    For a new user, i would always say get MFS, it's just more streamlined and can even play on an Xbox and it is future proof. And really it is a lot cheaper to run MFS in the long run.
    While Xp is a nice product and definetely has it's things over MFS in areas like systems and flight model on certain planes, one thing you really need to take into acount here is the investment and development.
    XP is a small project that does not really evolve that fast. MFS on the other hand is pumping out large updates very often both in content and core updates, which should raise the question, where will both sims be in 5-10 years from now.
    As well as content wise, more devs will go for MFS since the market is just a LOT larger which also means that prices go down. For example the 736 that is available for just 35 (an oddball for now but still)
    While MFS definetely needs the competition, i just am not confient in XP being able to keep up. And i am quite sure that the pro's XP has over MFS will get smaller and at some point perhaps irrelevant.
    Note that i am probably pretty biassed having played MS sims for years and very little XP (and lots of combat sims). And today i fly MFS and DCS mostly (close to 2000hrs on each title) with some IL-2 on the side.
    Also i should add, MFS can be played for "free" on xbox and PC gamepass if one already owns that.

Pro’s and con’s for each however flying in VR with MSFS takes the immersion factor to a whole new level that can’t be duplicated in XPlane. Additionally, with XPlane, you’ll spend a more money on payware scenery and aircraft and that is already included with the Premium version of MSFS.

      @@frankbyte yea I would agree that you probably will spend more in msfs than xplane because msfs have far more add-on products available for the fact that developers see that it has a far higher user pool. Over 10million chances to make a sale have to be attractive for addon Developers. I’m one of them Everytime there is a sale on one of these marketplaces I buy so much scenery and I buy some of the more expensive addon planes I got the TFdi MD11 for $80 that’s not even released yet. 🤦🏾‍♂️ but the thing with xplane is the visuals I fly VR 95% of the time even with autoortho x plane at 7000 ft look like msfs at FL430 there is just no comparison visually right now msfs runs away with that. With sim haven and ortho it definitely looks nicer but it’s still not on the level of terrain, tree coverage, road layout wise as msfs. Autoortho shows that there might be hope to continue to grind it up graphically tho and I do like how sim haven do the structure msfs do need to implement a tech like sim haven as some of the building photogrammetry be trippy. I’ll be using both sims because between the two sims they have enough planes to satisfy my OnAir company subscription which gives me so much places to fly to and different type of missions. Once my new 2tb m.2 drive arrive I’ll be putting X-plane 12 on it so each sim will be on their own m.2 drive.

      Hey, sure I do need to make that video for sure. I haven't yet cause I haven't been real blown away by the flight characteristics of XP12. Since they now are increasing the prices of XP12, I could make the plunge and go all in and get it all setup and do an educated comparison of the two, that'd be a good one. XP12 will come along I believe (once they fix their crappy looking clouds situation). If you are just now getting started in simming, I'd just go with XP12 and start working your peripherals into that system. I set everything up with XP11 and it all worked so I didn't bother much with XP12 cause I knew I'd run into issues with it being so new. So far the clouds and the loose flight characteristics have turned me off, but that might be adjustable.

    I chose xplane12 over msfs only because of physics I want to be a pilot in the future for the a321 and for me it flies so much better than in msfs. I'm not a pilot or anything but I talk to some via insta and I have seen that they use xp12 for their flights.
    For msfs I will only go on it if I feel like it's a relaxed day and let's see a bit of the world but flying in there is very responsive to the sudestick I have even when I changed the settings to what they should be. Overall I chose xplane12 way over any over SIM as if your looking to fly in the real world it better to use as like I said because of physics, the way the aircraft behaves.

    • @majoraviatior1611
      @majoraviatior1611 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now what your saying here is wrong somewhat wrong in regards to flight modeling. I bet you didn’t take time to look into the Fenix a320. Rather you just compared toliss to fbw or default 320. ( or maybe you did and have different opinions and that’s ok). Some pilots may still prefer xp12 for serious use. Xplane may seem more accurate to some but Microsoft have implemented a modern fluid dynamic system which is more modern compared to the outdated blade element theory (xplane). Not to mention Fenix and lots of the third party developers has managed to work around the sims limitations. Trust me, in the real aircraft you’d barely find a difference between toliss and Fenix. Let’s put it this way, if you think xplane is far superior in-terms of flight modelling some people might of told you that as they have 0 flight hours and just spread the message around to make there sim feel better. The changes are so minimal aswell as avionics that graphics and sate light scenery nock xplane out of the ball park. Sure you can get ortho4xp but that just isnt sufficient due to the amount of space it takes up. X-plane might be a few steps up in terms of flight modeling and avionics but Microsoft will eventually overcome it. However I do agree xplanes ground handling is much better. For you I’d reccomend msfs, great for future pilots and guess what, by the time you start flying the 320 family fslabs will come out with there 320 line up for msfs which is awesome and the best airbuses on the market! Better then ff toliss Fenix and many more. I’d only reccomend xplane at this very moment if you are flying general aviation and is flying a plane that is not available for msfs yet. Or the other audience, if you want to get your sim faa certified and want to squeeze as much realism in terms of flight modeling and avionics you can out of a consumer grade sim. I don’t feel you are in either group but decide for yourself. If you disagree with my opinion that’s so fine and you do what you prefer! I still fly xp for the ch65, 321, 350, torque sim sr22. It’s totally up to you, this is just my take on it.
      If you got up to here thanks for reading! There both great sims and enjoy each one:)

    • @majoraviatior1611
      @majoraviatior1611 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tbh, if you want the most realistic Airbus simulation experience P3d would be the best. I know toliss may seem good and real life Airbus pilots fly it but the acars and mcdu depth isn’t there. I’m a real pilot and use all sims. It doesn’t matter what a real pilot flies, it doesn’t make the sim any more realistic. For example v1 simulations prefers the Fenix over toliss 320neo and so does 320 sim pilot. However if you really want to fly a 321 and can’t afford P3d or fslabs in that matter ( it cost a lot) I guess xplane would be the right choice for you. At the end of the day the toliss does feel the best and that might be some peoples priority. At the end of the day it’s up to you and your personal preference hope these two comments help and I wish you luck with your dreams of being and Airbus pilot :)

      msfs not bad, I realized you can turn off the copilot functions and it acts more "normal" in terms of flight characteristics. The lead-in to a flight is kind of arcade like now that you mention it. All cut scenes and everything, and I'm like, "dude, I just want to fly, give me the sticks"... I might add the RV10 to it and see how it works. Why would they take the guns off the fighter jets? That sounds more like a societal coercion that Microsoft bowed down to....

    MSFS will have the higher growth potential. The funding backing behind it is crazy we know Microsoft bag is insane. They will have the funds to keep teams of developers working to continuously improve the product. You see that with things like bringing gliders into the sim; the wind dynamics and turbulence improved dramatically. They also rolled it out for Xbox this is big because it dramatically increase their market share and consumer Base this makes msfs extremely attractive to 3rd party developers. With that single move they now have a larger pool of customers to market and sell their product to so developer will surely go to work on creating products for MSFS. There is already a crazy amount of custom scenery for msfs and product coming out that is aiming to be extremely high fidelity. X-plane currently have the better flight model but that gap is rapidly closing and with the popularity of msfs amongst content creators I’m sure Microsoft is hearing that criticism of the flight model and is likely hell bent on getting it resolved. One thing I will say. It’s a great time to be a flight simmer im excited to see where things go.

      P3D is easily an updated MSFS' ESP platform. It was never intended for home use from the get go anyway. When Lockheed Martin bought the rights from Microsoft, they were under the agreement that the software won't be used for personal entertainment. But there we go, they have been enjoying the market that Microsoft turned a blind eye upon.
      As far as the platform itself: they are largely supported by its established add-ons, other than that, the simulation engine is extremely outdated. LM styled it as training sim that also features submarine and land vehicles.

I’ve been a loyal P3d and fslabs user for over 5 years now but it aged extremely as soon as Fenix 320 came out. Xplane handles much more realistically in my opinion to prepared as P3d just feels like fsx on steroids. It feels on rails, doesn’t get effected by weather as much as real life and feels a bit more artificial compared to xplane which feels a bit natural. If your looking for 320 systems then yeah but if your looking for the all rounder fs2020 all the way since there’s Fenix fbw and fslabs are working on the series for msfs. Xplane also has toliss which has a weather radar and circuit breakers. That is great since Fenix doesn’t have a weather radar and fslabs doesn’t have circuit breakers modelled. The only downside to the toliss is the mcdu depth. It’s no way near as good as Fenix or fslabs. But in terms of aircraft handling toliss all the way.
