Valur's blue jacket against the sombre colours and almost savage landscape is a delight to the eye. That' s in addition to his first class reporting and Art's masterful camera work Thanks for taking us on this hike. I cringe a bit when you're walking on the steep hillside, half expecting you to take a tumble even though you're sure footed. Lovely to see Polly sprightly as usual.
Thank you for going where no one else does. You gave us a close up of the point of origin to the little land peninsula that has been half-covered. That volcano’s lava really reached high and over low hills quickly. Very energetic! The cone looked bigger too with it in your close-up background. On this backside of the cone the hill appears like it has been sanded smooth whereas the opposite hill that most people view the cone from is very rocky. What a difference! Beautiful Iceland! It’s okay to have an accent. You’re not from America. You’re not in America. It’s okay, you’re in Iceland. You’re Icelandic! You’re accent is wonderful! It’s yours in your own homeland!
The volcano has created some dramatic scenery and thanks for sharing it with us. I don't think there many journalists doing newscasts quite like the way you do them.
Another wonderful broadcast, and a million thanks to Art for the astonishing closing shot and sound! Please rub Pollý's belly for me, she's Such A Good Girl!
Valure, Art and Polly, you always make me smile and LEARN! Polly's pads on her feet must be much stronger than our collie's feet. She tore one of her pads on a brick sidewalk! Thank you, and I am awaiting the next fire bubbler!
I confess! It was me! I came to Iceland last September and Geldingadalur went out within minutes of the plane touching down. This year, I merely had to think about coming over last weekend and the volcano coughed and died. Sorry! In my defence, may I point out that in most of the world being able to stop a rampaging volcano by thought alone is considered a good thing?
May you have these small, harmless, tourist eruptions every year, ideally in summer! May they stay far from towns and infrastructure and benefit your economy as much as possible! I enjoy your newscasts. It's interesting to see how people live in Iceland, and you have so much strange and beautiful landscape.
Long live the Volcana and what a spectacular one it was. The imagery you shared was also spectacular!! Thank you for allowing us to be there with you. 🙂
Iceland has some of the most amazing landscapes, stark yet beautiful. And Polly isn't only a pretty dog, she is rather tough as well. Can never get enough of her happy face.
What an amazing start with the drone whipping around the lava fields and cones! Great work Art! Thank you Valur for taking us so close to the cone. I re
I cut myself off accidentally… It’s amazing how tall the cone and the plateau it created is. We will wait to see what happens next. See you then… From Ontario Canada.
Thanks for the drone footage of both volcanoes. It was cool to see G still releasing gas before moving over to show us M totally quiet with just the gas release. Hopefully a new one will appear in the area again soon.
Amazing topography Valur, great views from Art! Awesome seeing Polly energetic exploring/hiking with you after her surgery, just "keep off lava Polly", she heard you & did! Those ancient/older flows you've shown before having some life with moss only growing after 100s years are fascinating! I lived in 8years Ohau Hawaii had many visits on Big Island during it's volcano activity! Was surprising ferns as a major plant first growing on new lava flows there. The great vids/drone footage Art shows with coal black new lava from craters to filling adjacent valleys quite the contrast & awesome to older terrain it now covers! Even with possibility this active phase over there note Hawaii's Big Island volcano has had quite periods between active phases as well since 1986, now crater active again so never know what mother nature has in store for us! Thanks again for Island news & update on volcano! Cheers from Missouri, USA!
We were so lucky that we got to see it on Thursday (even with a rainbow to boot!) and again Friday night, and with aurora when we left about 2am, amazing!Saturday it all slowed right down, so we caught her just in time! I took the 'One Ring' up there Thurs, so perhaps that's what hastened its demise, sorry... 🤔😉 (but I didn't throw it in, because it's mineeee, precious! 😂)
I keep thinking it would make for a good documentary for ppl. to investigate the mouth of the volcano and some of the lava tubes surrounding it. of course safety would have to be the first priority but exploring them (thorough others of cause) would be a thrill for me. ☺
Hello, I stayed there 2021 and visited the Eruption of Fragradalsfjall, very, very impossant. So I am very interessed in looking your podcast. Thanks and Greetings from the southeast Part of Austria
Well done Valur! Wonderful reporting on the Fagradalsfjall volcano. Thank you for all of the beautiful views and the updated information of the lava flows. It really did look like it was going to be bigger than last year’s eruption. The south road was in danger, Grendavik was too, and even in the worst case Reykjavik could have been evacuated. Icelanders are in a precarious position. I hope the danger zones in your beautiful country remain on the edges of the populated areas and no closer. Cheers to Polly who always brings the ball back to you and drops it in front of you in great anticipation that you’ll pick it up and throw it again. That’s a smart dog! Richard from California
Many thanks for this nice way of making videos. When I ever come to Island, I would be very glad to meet You. I wish You all the best Somebody can think of. Best greetings from Heppenheim, Germany
Last year was kinda like watching the trailers and previews in the theater. Sooner or later, the main show will begin - after all, we can expect a couple of centuries of activity on the Reykjanes peninsula if the historical pattern holds.
"Holly, don't walk on the lava man!" You spoke that in perfect "American" and without the slightest bit of Icelandic accent. It was quite notable for sure. Love the dog!
I just order my volcano box and a coffee cup to “Stay off the Lava” which I thought was too cute. Polly is such a cutie. Always enjoy the videos. This is so amazing. I wish I was younger and could make the trip and hike. So thank you for the video. Now I need a coffee mug with Polly on it.
The sound and sight over the crater is absolutely mesmerizing, especially to know that it is completely real, not a Lord of the Rings fantasy episode! I just ordered a discount box. I wonder if a chunk from one of these two will arrive - hooray! My lava chunk from last year needs a friend who speaks the language. 🙂
You've always made me want to see Iceland, but my dicky knees wouldn't want to. So I probably never will. However, I enjoy your broadcasts so much and the trots around both volcanoes, Pollied and unPollied. I didn't know much about Iceland before except that it had hot springs, volcanoes and terrible weather. So you've really opened it up in a very charming way!
Nice newscast. About the eruption, what I am seeing is that the ground is not in desinflation and the ground is still rumbling (tremor with the signal at 2.0 Hz) unless it is the wind. The intensity of the tremor signals seems increasing since the drop of 20/21 08 2022.
Most geologist think that the Fagradalsfjall system is a part of the Krýsuvík system (some think it is a special system). You usually don't see the Fagradalsfjall system on any map, only Krýsuvík. There are according to scientists five volcanic systems in the Reykjanes peninsula: Reykjanes, Svartsengi, Krýsuvík, Brennisteinsfjöll and Hengill (as you see the Fagradalsfjall is not included)
I believe Valur would never ever ever take Polly to the volcano without a firm talking to about safety issues. Knowing Polly she is there just in case he needs rescuing. Love the walk and talk newscast. Always excellent, very informative and enjoyable. Please like share subscribe comment and consider purchasing a volcano box to help Reykjavik Grapevine going and Because it makes a cool gift for the geologist who has everything. Because we love Rekjavik Grapevine.
I don't think I would assume that. Look a Kilauea it took a several year rest and is back being active. It may be resting or effected brother factors or reappear a little further away. Don't bet any money on your predictions. Thanks for your reports.
The lava is called vesicular basalt which means it is low in silicon dioxide and rich in magnesium and iron. The name vesicular comes from ‘vesicles’ - gas bubbles created when the magma foams up near the surface. In that sense it is like pumice, but much denser. Pumice has many more bubbles and is generally very rich in silicon dioxide and aluminium, low in iron and magnesium. Pumice is very rare in Iceland as those high silicon dioxide magmas are uncommon; a few of the volcanoes in the east if the country have produced pumice in the distant past, but not in historic times.
@@mikerichards6065 Thank you for the info. I love all the things you all post. I am from Mexico and here we have a lot of Pomice. We used it a lot to soften the foot skin. Anyone could buy it in markets. But not anymore, because it was not good for the clogs in the bathroom.
In Hawaiian the lava you described is called "A A", which is the sound the ancient Hawaiians made when they walked on it.. The smooth lava you see in Hawaii they called "pa hoi hoi" (don't quote me on the spelling) Thank you for explaining how you watch out for your dog.. I get a lot of grief from ppl because my dog is a Jack Russell terrier and they have separation anxiety but he loves to ride in the car and take him everywhere but I love my dog and like you, would never endanger my dog so thanks for your explanation and loving your dog lol
I just came from Iceland. Sadly I missed the volcano by a couple of days but still got to do many amazing hikes in the Reykjanes area. If there really is Fargradallsfjall fires going on then I dont need to wait for too long till the next chance to see it.
Your comment reminded me of a little candle game called "Holy Smokes" where if a flame goes out, but still has a trail of smoke and flame that comes in contact with the smoke ignites the candle again. Wonder if you started a local bonfire, and a stream of smoke touched the flames it would draw enough energy to erupt again.
It's not really smoke. It's not the result of anything burning. It's gases that are part of the magma and lava that are released when the magma approaches the surface and the pressure is reduced. It's this that causes the lava fountains - same principle as opening a bottle of champaign or pop. Gases will continue to seep out for some time. It looks blue partly from the sulfur dioxide and partly from water vapour.

It was short but fabulous, thanks for going out there multiple times to give us such great views!
Beautiful drone shots, dog, and very nice coverage of the situation! Thanks

It seems more difficult for Valur to walk on the terrain than dear Polly LOL 🤣
Great job of showing the huge elevation changes in the terrain. Rock on Polly!
Maybe Polly could pull you up hill lol I know mine collie did.Very happy to see the new scenery.
Well done Valur art and Polly.
Kudos to the Grapevine team! Great drone footage and I really enjoy watching Polly!

Great report! I love Polly! She wanted her tennis ball. 😄 It is stunning landscape even without the active lava.
That intro was cool

That's quite a hike on company time, you are having fun! We appreciate you💐🕊️👍
What a fantastic shot at the end. The low rumble of the hot, steamy volcano to the brisk cold winds above.
You do a great job on your videos in Iceland.
I was so lucky to see the first one erupt last year.
I love visiting Iceland.
Thank you so much.
Very interesting to see the contrast of that light brown ridge of old lava next to the fresh black lava.
Thanks for the update, always interesting. Art...your photography is on an "Oscar' level....love it.

What a delightful place! Happy to be with you (lucky ones) in this exciting moment!! The final images come directly from heaven!!
Thank you Valur, Art. And Polly for continued excellent reporting. God Bless you and keep Iceland pure🙏
Outstanding footage! Such raw beauty!
Fantastic pictures!!! Thank you again for your intresting Newscast! I love Polly!!
Sad it was a short eruption phase until next time
You can see wave patterns in the cooling lava. Like a memorial statue to the latest eruption!
Great footage, am looking forward to the next eruption. The Eye in the rock at the end 👀
She’s watching & waiting🌈
What fantastic editing on the intro there!
So fascinating. Thanks for sharing. Polly is such a sweet dog.

thanks for the update. stay safe out there!
Thanks Valur for picking up my piece of lava. Its going to be winging it’s way to Australia very soon! 🌋 🇦🇺
This eruption was like an encore to the one last year.
It will be back....
Last year was kinda like watching the trailers and previews in the theater. Sooner or later, the main show will begin - after all, we can expect a couple of centuries of activity on the Reykjanes peninsula if the historical pattern holds.
Where is the location of the first eruption last year? The first two cones? How look it now? And, once again: Polly for President!
"Holly, don't walk on the lava man!"
You spoke that in perfect "American" and without the slightest bit of Icelandic accent. It was quite notable for sure. Love the dog!

Fingers crossed for another eruption soon 🤞
Great title on a great newscast.❤️
This was beautiful. it erupted when we landed in Keflavik, the hike was def worth it, what a beautiful site❤
Ovin amazing video!!
Thanks for your fantastic coverage :)
I just gave my husband the discount box link. I want the lava! The Icelandiania will be good, too, since I grew up in a Scandinavian-American family.
Sound gave me chills.
My Eruptometer gave it a 4/10
So glad I went when I did
The sound of the volcano through the drone is incredible!! 🌋 Thank you for the updates and video!👍🙌🙏
Wow that did not last too long! Oh well there will be another one!
The mighty volcano is jist a bit funirt as we say in Scotland (worn out, tired)

I'm holding out until vaxmania isn't a thing. Not just Iceland, of course.
How sad. I absolutely love checking in every day when this volcano is awake
and the slopes around Meraldalir are empty again

Polly tests lava field to make sure it's safe for Valur.
Don't walk on the lava. If you stumble and fall, it's like you hit a monster hedgehog. 🤗
Love your newscast! Thank you for your work. So Polly is sturdier than sheepdogs? What is her breed please?
Can a visitor still hike yikes the volcano site? Is there still a path? I think it would be wonderful to see the landscape even with no eruption
At the end while Art started to rotate to the right around the crater rim the volcano briefly looked like a smiling imp, looking up at us cheekily. :)
Polly is actually a geologist.
I don't think I would assume that. Look a Kilauea it took a several year rest and is back being active. It may be resting or effected brother factors or reappear a little further away. Don't bet any money on your predictions. Thanks for your reports.

We have never aspect from mother earth . so much , over the whole world is going on , prayers need the people now ,
