      There are enough /48 IPv6 address prefixes available to give every person on the planet about 4000 allocations before IANA has to release some more of the 80% of the space which is still undefined. Another way to look at it is 2^52 addresses for every observable star in the known universe or one IPv6 address for every atom on the surface of the earth. Yeah, it’ll take a while.

    • @tylercrawford8252
      @tylercrawford8252 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@netpilot5 Of course! The texts I've read have suggested that the number of IPv6 address is equal to the number of grains of sand on Earth. I'm simply saying that there was a time when we thought we'd never deplete IPv4 address space. Now, here we are saying the same thing about IPv6. I agree that if the amount of IPv6 address space is exhausted, many of us will be long gone. I mean, we've found a way to keep IPv4 around this long.

    • @netpilot5
      @netpilot5 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Netpilot Yep. I believe we exhausted our address space on this side of the globe in 2011. Did you know that in 1981, the world had only 4.5 billion people? Today, much of the world remains without Internet access, electricity, etc. And, we still haven’t colonized Mars. Your point was taken. This doesn’t need to be a debate.

    Man, you explain is SO.MUCH.BETTER.THAN.MY.TEACHER HOLY SHIT. What took my teacher about 2 hours and was still missed by most of us, was simplified in an elegant way that everyone can understand. I can now do all the conversions I want thanks to this video.
    I'll definitely be watching more of your videos as they will be of great help through my 2-year journey in my IT Systemintegration course.
    You've earned a sub from me.
    Thank you.
