Etta stormed in like the soul queen she was and elevated this whole performance! Sangin' her throat off like the rent was DUE! The woman was literally pure FIRE and FURY. Loved her little interaction with Whitney towards the end when they called her name and Whitney Houston cheered her on in pure excitement and Etta blew her a kiss 🖤 R.I.P to the legends on that stage that are no longer with us y’all are sorely missed!

Used to hang out on Monday nights at a blues club in Chicago called The Kingston Mines. It was an open jam. You never knew who was going to show up. Koko Taylor, Jimmy Johnson, Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Sugar Blue, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy, James Cotton all ended up there through the years. It was an amazing place. Virtually the whole audience was musicians. The stage was always rotating players, so the music never stopped. The place had a 4 AM liquor license...'nuff said.. lol

I just posted about him! He saved the whole song - if you listen, BB comes in a few beats early with his vocal, which causes Albert to do the same, so your cousin just keeps to the root note instead of playing a walking bass line, and moves the song up to the next chord in line with Albert's vocal so it all slots back in time. Can you let him know someone noticed it, it was a good job well done!

This clip features some of the best in the blues, both vocalists and players. I've met some of them, including one who became a friend and taught me a lot about the performers, the record business, and he taught one of thes people himself, how to play guitar correctly-- Mr. Robert Lockwood Jr. There are some good players out there today--you just gotta' find 'em !!

I had the privilege of seeing Koko Taylor when she opened up for Stevie Ray Vaughan in Memphis somewhere around 1980? This would have been super cool to see all these in one night!

    What a glorious highlight!
Yet, at the same time, none of them was given enough time to REALLY show what they got under the hood. That's what TV did to the Real Thing.
God Blessed us with the Blues and with these performers/diplomats/teachers/artists of resilience & Soul.
