    Hey, Tim. Son told me about your videos. I'm a retired LIRR conductor. '72 - '03. One bit of trivia about something you mentioned. Rosedale Station. I grew up in Valley Stream not far from the Rosedale border. I know the planes - right in back of my house. Here's the deal. I learned this after many years : The planes use that approach to JFK - over Cross Island PKY, Rosedale, Rockaway Blvd - when the wind is from the south west, and they land on 22L. Otherwise, they fly along the beach - Jones Beach, etc. and go right into JFK using another runway. Good narration on the trip to Babylon!

    The LIRR is not unique in using this heavy-rail third-rail style - WMATA subway uses it thoroughout (examples are the Silver Line to Reston - and the upcoming Dulles extension) I have not ridden yet. All the Flying Yankee needs is the Yogi Berra cap (worn backward of course) when flying through here.

    Ahhhh, what a pleasure those head end shots are !! We get a whole different perspective of the line, not just the trees, weeds, grass and buildings on one side of the train. If it were me, I'd delete and trash the side window shots as you replace them with the stunning, awesome head end shots. But I realize that you said some people actually like side window shots. I'm not among those people. I wonder if those people might change their minds after seeing these spectacular shots. And remember, you can't call out the signals from side window shots. And you can't point out tracks coming in or leaving from the right or left.
    I have always wondered why, that as well as you know some of the LIRR crews and as well known as you are to them, why haven't you politely asked for permission to shoot out of a front window? Worst they could say, sorry, no. You might get a big surprise if they say, sure, yes. It couldn't hurt.

    • @3985uprr
      @3985uprr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve gotten kind of spoiled with the head end shots lately. I still like doing the window shots because a lot of people do like them. I think my window shot videos are better than most peoples because I tell you where you are and what’s going on and a little bit about history and stuff and I think that helps make those types of videos successful. Too many people who do those say absolutely nothing!!!On the Long Island Railroad the M3’s are coming back so I want to get a lot of head end rides with those.

      @frankdurham51 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      not sure why its only 60mph from Jamaica to Lynbrook. Are the rails not in good shape, it looks like concrete ties, so rails should be in good shape. Growing up in Laurelton, these trains use to fly. Even on the far rockaway/long beach branch, trains would haul back in the 80’s/90’s

      Ronkonkoma yard just got expanded, so you shouldn’t be worried.
