  • IT WAS A EMOTIONAL REUNION WITH MY FRIENDS FROM THE TALAANDIG TRIBE IN LANTAPAN BUKIDNON...
The way this community is open to sharing their culture, and they beautiful music and dance... it really can be overwhelming in such a positive way. On this GRIND Program (Grassroots Innovations for Inclusive Development) "SalikLakbay", we were invited to the Talaandig community. Visiting their home, I was fascinated listening to one local and his bamboo flutes. We look into a little bit of Adlai wine, interact with the community, and enjoy the positive vibes of Mindanao!
I am so thankful for the moments we share with my Talaandig friends here in the Philippines...
    Saliksik - Research
    Lakbay - Journey/Adventure
This GRIND program is absolutely awesome! And I encourage everyone to look it up on Facebook: / grinddost

@@illoc There is so much more than Cordillerans though. I want a record of EVERYTHING before they are lost. The Lumad, the Tausug, the Maranao, Maguindanao, Sulodnon, Mangyan, Ati, Aeta, Sama, etc.
Very few northerner Filipinos even know what Lumad culture looks like.

The flutist played beautifully. The sound from the bamboo flute was so melodious (6:42 till 7:30). I felt like listening to it longer. Oliver Mumulaay can record his flute music and share these online. Such wonderful music to me. Thank you for sharing Oliver's music, Kulas. Appreciated the flute music a lot!

Thank you Mr. Jennerman for showcasing various indigenous tribes of Mindanao and of the Philippines in general. I've only read about these subjects in textbooks as a youth growing up in the late 60s, 70s and early 80s as we didn't have the technology we have now....through the power of social media, you are the medium that brings these to us even though a whole lot of us your followers are in various parts of the world.

Thank you so much for showing this!!! This was truly special to see. I enjoyed seeing the dances and hearing Oliver's beautiful flute music. How fun to see the young children learning their dances and being a part of the welcoming ceremony along with the adults. It reminded me of my time with the University of Hawaii Fil-Am club and learning various Filipino dances. Those are some of my fondest memories, and they make me wish I could be there enjoying the Talaandig culture along with you and Kumar and be able to learn their dances, too.

Interesting to see the costumes. As a child growing up in Mindanao in the 50’s and 60’s, I remember that most of the indigenous tribes in Mindanao wore woven “patadyong” or “ malong”, and the men were often seen in woven shorts and vests made of native fibers. Some wore gold bracelets. It was sad that a lot of folks in the city often looked down on them. My friends would try to mimic the ladies by trying to use the betel nuts for lipstick. My family had an “agong” to call us back to the house for meals. Mindanao was very pristine. I remember my father commenting each time he saw slash and burn”methods used upland, “ there goes the mountain.” So glad to see the preservation efforts - both culture and environment. Thanks for sharing.

This is a good video because it brings, opens and welcomes us, your viewers, to the other side or what is beyond the mountains or lives that are meaningfully full of simplicity. 👍🏽Oliver, the flute guy, is amazingly creative and talented. I hope he would share or teach or hand down this knowledge to the next generation.👏🏼 Openly and truthfully sharing one’s life, specially from a good leader and person, is more interesting and has substance. In Lantapan it is like Baguio it is really cool due to it's high elevation ⛰⛰⛰
And the river in Cagayan De Oro it come from Mount Kalatungan and Mount Kitanglad from the fogs and rain on the peak of the mountain 🏞⛰⛰⛰🌫🌫🌫🌧🌧🌧
And it is on the pineapple field 🍍🍍🍍
And they sang the national anthem on their own language.
And those are the primitive people of Bukidnon.
The Lumads and the Higaonons in Misamis Oriental.
And the Negritos in Negros that came in Africa AKA ita and the aeta in Luzon are the people that came in Africa.
And they had a rice terraces on the mountain in Lantapan same in Banaue there is a rice terraces on the mountain 🌾🌾🌾⛰⛰⛰
And those indigenous people you met them 6 years ago.
And it is really emotional that you reunited with them.
And you did not paint the wall of your new house it needs to be painted 🏠

I think I remember you coming to this tribe before where you joined in the frog dance if I remember correctly. I find the "frog dance" interesting as I do like frogs; very chilled and relaxed creatures. BTW, I loved the ladies tribal headdress. I am glad these tribes are getting the respect they deserve for their tradition and showcasing themselves. Many cultures and traditions from small indigenous tribes are dying off across the world due to environmental and economic matters, but with the right support and mutual respect, I believe certain cultures and tribes will endure. In 15 years' time, I expect to see this tribe flourishing, and not diminishing. Long live GRIND and the Talaandig community!!!!
BTW, you look really settled now in your new home. It is all coming together. This year is far from over and 2022 can still get even better for you guys over there.

Thank you for sharing your travels and your thoughts...it transports one to a refreshing and verdant atmosphere in contrast to the concrete jungle where most of us are. Oliver's short rendition of the theme of the movie, " The Last of the Mojicans", was a surprise. I just love native arts and culture. Daghang Salamat Kyle, keep posting....May God keep you safe and joy filled always.
    Thank you for sharing
