  • BACK AT A MOUNTAIN VILLAGE IN LUBUAGAN KALINGA... AND I WAS OVERWHELMED WITH KINDNESS AND BEAUTIFUL FILIPINO COMMUNITY SPIRIT!
This is the second part of my experience back with this amazing community in Kalinga. I first visited Upper Uma back in 2019, and was inspired by a Manong named Teddy, and his friend Pakas. On this day, I went back to the village hoping to simply say "Thank You".
What I got... was another amazing experience with the community, and so much inspiration! Manong Teddy wasn't home, but I had the chance to meet his wife, who overwhelmed me with a gift. I was given 5kg of rice from their community terraces. Just such a heat warming experience here in Kalinga. I am so thankful for this village in the mountains, and everyone who I have met here.
    I will be back...
Filipino mountain village, and a wonderful wife who overwhelmed me with a gift...
    POWER ON!

)No need to cry Brod, I shed happy tears on your behalf; when Ate Nene displayed your jersey and stated that Manong Teddy tucked it away as a souvenir to remember you, and her displaying it proudly, to me it was a profound moment.
P.S. I rewatched the original vlog from three years ago. That kape moment was indeed heartwarming.

I love it how spontaneous you are Kulas, in Philippines Culture eating together and sharing together with one plate and with bare hands consider as "sacred". You really embody Filipino culture and heritage. Kudos to you Kulas.

Heirloom rice - cultured on the ancient old terraces and re-cultivated gene throughout the years. It is also harder to cultivate vs. ones grown on the lowlands. They only crop out 2x a year as opposed to 3x in the lowlands... parting their home use rice to someone special is indeed humbling!

Kyle, hi! I am so bursting with pride right now, knowing that my filipino people, no matter what culture we belong, what island we lived from all iver the Philippines, we are all one as filipino. Our new President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is right, we should be united as one, a Filipino. As I said, I am bursting with pride, because filipino are truly a giving. & sharing people. You see, how respectable they are to you? They let you try & eat their food first as a sign of respect in their Kalinga culture. Of course Kulas, you are so respectful to all of them. It is how you interact with them. You can go to all the islands in the Philippines, & get the same responds from them, pure respect!
Love your tattoo Kyle, Vancouver Island on the Lt. foot, & was that on the Rt,, a tattoo of the whole Phil. Islands?
This reminds me a funny story about 10 yrs. ago. I was in mainland Vancouver, & I asked direction from the bus driver, I said to him, sorry Sir to ask from you, but I don't know Vancouver very well because I am from the island. And, he said, I know, you are from the Philippine islands, I kinda laugh & said, yeah, but I meant Vancouver island, from Nanaimo. We both kinda laugh! Anyway, goodnight Kyle, continue what you are doing, spreading love & goodwill to all ! Glad you are reaching the very North part of the Philippine islands. The Bb. box should be on its way to Cateel in 2 mos. period, shipped from mainland Vancouver. God bless you in your travels, keep safe!

It was a bit of a shame Manong Teddy was away but you get to meet his wife and other villagers. And left with precious village gifts.
After watching this vlog, I had to hunt and find the where it all started; how you met Manong Teddy and the story behind the jersey.
In that vlog, Manong Teddy was kind and hospitable to have offered a cup of coffee in his humble abode. He even showed you off where you parked your bike. It was nice of you to offer your jersey as a token of your appreciation.
A genuinely kind person Manong Teddy is.
