  • Here is the link to the list of schools that do not require pre-reqs.
    Remember to do your own research on each school.
    Pre-reqs were instrumental in me doing well on the MCAT but this is a solid place to start.

    I will say to all reading this, if you want to learn deeper in nursing school, you’ll often find yourself over studying. I learned about the 4 subtypes of Leukemia and prophylactic breast cancer medication that also increases the risk of endometrial hyperplasia due to the medication being a selective estrogen receptor modulator and the excess estrogen accumulation involved. That’s not on the NCLEX 😂 I really do love this stuff. For now, I’ll continue to verse myself extensively in pharmacology and the most common pathologies (In case I do go to med school after all)

      I resonate so much with this comment. I find myself over studying so much which helps mostly but then I feel like it’s wasted time could’ve been spent on something more productive

    Thanks for this! I am in RN residency and realized I want more! I’m hungry for knowledge and the ability to be more helpful for my patients! Truly inspiring!

      Dustin, you telling me my story is inspiring honestly inspires me to get back to it and get some more videos out!! plan on a few within the week!
      Can you give a little more insight into what your thoughts are?

      @@RN2MDpat I wanted to bridge the gap between physician teams and nurses and be a great pediatrician. I’ve decided not to go back to school yet because my mental health has struggled and 3 years of +80 hours/week is not something I want to do. I could do it, I know. But I don’t want to. I’m no longer interested in MD

    Love your energy man. Dope video and thanks. I’m also considering the same thing. Currently only a first semester nursing student but I’ve been considering if I should go the Med route after..

      Hey! So I’m currently a 3rd semester nursing student now. Next semester is my last for the ADN portion and then I have a year for online BSN.. So now that I see the dynamic between physicians and patients vs. nurses and patients in the hospital setting, I can tell that nurses are so much closer to the patients. Being a nurse vs a physician is completely different (beyond diagnosis and treatment). I’m not sure how I feel about that! But for now, I’m thinking of going to CRNA school. As much as I love the acquisition of medical knowledge and the application of it to patients, I can’t start over from scratch and do med school. I’m still torn, but right now it’s looking like being an Anesthesia provider with my doctorate is the vibe!

    Hey bro, your story is very inspiring! Thank you for making these videos. Im a senior nursing student trying to cram the prereqs in before I graduate. On track to finish all of them (yay). So far i feel like I’ll end up doing decent on them. My area of concern is my EC. As a nurse im sure our clinical experience EC is great but did you find time volunteering, researching and shadowing while you worked as a nurse while also taking classes? Cant wait for your mcat video

    • @RN2MDpat
      @RN2MDpat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey brotha, thats fantastic. Way ahead of where I was out of school, so awesome dude. I was lucky to be a part of sports and a handful of outreach and mission trips in school so I was able to use that. As a nurse it was more challenging for me. I continue to volunteer at where I was prior to finishing undergrad. I never was able to do research or shadowing tbh. I think that those are two places that I lacked but luckily for me it worked out. A lot of premeds do research solely in their gap years so I wouldn't stress on it too too hard. Being a nurse is what makes you unique and fantastic. if you find research on the side, you are an all star. shadowing is something I would suggest but again not a necessity. I think that starts with making relationships with physicians and making connections. Since you are still in school that may be a foreign concept. I actually plan on that being my next video but in general it starts with being great in your role as a nurse.
      When I was taking classes, working and studying for the MCAT I simply did not have time to do anything other. That was absolute grind time brother. Since you have the prerequisites you are way ahead of the game. Take your time with the MCAT but it can be a catalyst - when you crush that.. oof you got it on lock my man.
      hope this helps a little. Excited for you journey brother. Here for you man

    Thanks for this video. I just started working as a med-surg nurse and feel like I want to do more. However, I'm a little older, 27, and a military veteran. Would it be too late for me to start knocking out these prerequisites? Again thanks, truly inspiring.

      My Friend,
      Firstly, thanks for your service. And thanks for the comment and I feel honored that you are inspired.. that's what I am doing this for. I want people to know that it can in fact it can be done.
      Too old? can't say that's a decision for me because there are def different things for different people to consider and of course I don't know your situation. But regardless, med school and becoming a physician is a journey as you know so what truly is the difference between being an attending at 35,37 or 39?? Again I can't say what those years mean to people but I will tell you that you will be 39 regardless and the decision is yours if you are 39 and a physician or not

    ty for this video!! any tips on juggling between working full-time work and taking prereqs (+ studying for mcat), since gpa is so important for med school application?

    • @RN2MDpat
      @RN2MDpat  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey! I hope that your juggle has been going good! For me the answer to that was optimize my time, work my ass off and work as efficiently as possible. But at the end of the day you can only do so much and you are jsut one person. set your priorities, keep them straight and work. you will never regret work put in I promise you that

    Thanks for the video Pat! My name is Joshua. Very inspiring video and like everyone else commented below, I also have a dream to become an internal medicine doctor with a nursing background (I am a new graduate nurse with military background age at 30).
    If you don't mind me asking, how did you prepare yourself for MCAT? Did you take any physics (Only heard bio and chem)? I have about 3.7 gpa from nursing school and want to see if you think this is competitive enough for me. Beside working as a nurse on floor, what other preparation did you do in order to make yourself stand out compared to the other candidates?
    I also feel like I might want to pursue the route you took and wanted to get some insights from it. Any comments would be appreciated very much! :)

      Joshua, firstly, thank you for your service. Im humbled that you are inspired, that means alot to me.
      Pretty cool that its you know what you want to do.. And even cooler that you can accomplish it.
      When I took the MCAT I did not have physics under my belt however I took it after in case I did not get in to school. I have a video on the MCAT and hopefully that helps you understand how I went about studying for it. I was taking bio and chem and supplementing with MCAT material. I used uworld, khan academy and a few other sources. happy to discuss more if my video doesn't clarify!! I think your GPA is great.. Im about to make a video on my application but my college GPA was around 3.4. also with your military and now nursing background it makes you a great candidate. Your grades will not hold you back!! you are in a great spot.
      I had a good amount of leadership and volunteering in school but during my time as a nurse I was so busy taking classes and studying for the MCAT I honestly didn't do to many extracurriculars. Again I hope my video soon will help a little!
      I look forward to hearing about your journey!

    Hi thank you for your video 🙏 Do MD/DO care about where I complete my preqs?? Can I just take them at my local Community college? I heard they look down on students that didn’t take preq in a university. Do you think it’s true?

    • @RN2MDpat
      @RN2MDpat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Sorry I havent gotten back to you. I did at CC d/t money and the times for class available as they allowed me to continue to work as a nurse! I can't say for certain if schools look down, but I think your unique path to medicine will make it at least understandable as to why you went to CC. Then go do well on your MCAT and leave no doubt that you know your stuff!

    Quick question, after graduating from college, is it possible to just go to a 4 year college and do the prerequisite without a major? I just want the prerequisite not a 4 year major

    • @RN2MDpat
      @RN2MDpat  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should be able to take stand alone classes at most places yes. but will just depend on the school. I originally tried to do that at my college but it was more expensive than the local community so I just went and did that! but I would be lying if i said that a big university does not look better than a community college- to what extent that is true I am not sure. do what works best for you .. crush it... and nothing is going to hold you back
