    At 21:48, she pulls that herb out of her mouth - when she's going through her mom's things and learns the truth, there's a bottle called "Dittany Of Crete" in the belongings. That is a black herb that in the occult world, is often used in possession rituals. We see a pic of grandma feeding baby Charlie a milk bottle filled with black herbs, and Peter's friend with the long hair under the bleachers who passed him the weed is seen in the treehouse at the end, so that guy was probably lacing Peter's weed, as well.

      i love how much is under the surface in this movie. like the best part is that the whole town is secretly satanists and it's ridiculous if you think about it, but in the atmosphere of this movie it just works?

    My biggest question of the movie is why Peter was being sent to school???? If my son experienced that kind of trauma, he's going to inpatient treatment or partial hospitalization treatment. And the dad asking about SAT prep courses; sir eff them SATs!!! Take him to the lady so he can lie on a couch and explain what happened to him!

    At the dinner scene, Annie sees Peter sneering all the time because it’s Paimon. Just like when Peter has a regular face in class but his reflection is snarky/sneering.

      Paimon isn’t in anyone during the dinner scene.
      He enters Annie next after daddy spontaneously combusts.
      Then he enters Peter when he jumps out the window after Annie dies.
      So no.
      Paimon is just lurking during the dinner scene, causing the added friction during the dinner confrontation.
      You can always tell when Paimon enters someone because the movie shows the orb when he enters Annie and when he leaves Annie and enters Peter to become the ultimate Paimon form.
      Watch the director’s commentary bc he points out really cool plot important details.

    • @Persephone_Personified
      @Persephone_Personified ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Also when Peter sees the reflection in the glass at school smiling at him. . .
      Peter is self aware and HORRIFIED. . so paimon isn’t in Peter yet.. just taunting him and breaking his mind.
      When Paimon takes over, the original human mind is gone and the human body of the victim becomes a mere vessel getting him closer to his ultimate goal, Peter.
      So Peter freaking out in school is still very much Peter.

    • @magicallabbiata
      @magicallabbiata 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      But Peter answers "I don't sneer at you" and Annie says he "doesn't need to" sneer, so this is probably untrue.

    Hereditary is one of the greatest psychological horror movies of all time. The story, performance's, musical score, direction, visuals, astomphere, tension, and cinematography was absolutely and positivity horrifying and terrifying.😱😰 It also gives a insightful and articulate representation of trauma and abuse. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍👍💯😎

    Paimon was originally meant to posses Annie's dad or brother, but both men killed themselves before he could do so. Presumably, they both realised what Annie's mom was trying to do, but were written off as mentally ill.
    The cult were stuck with what to do, so Annie's mom bullied her into having children. Annie on some level knows any children she has will be doomed (hence why she tried to have a miscarriage and tried to kill them when sleepwalking) and so kept Peter away but caved to letting Charlie know her grandma. As a result, Charlie was possesed as a baby by Paimon.
    TL;DR Charlie is Paimon.
    But Paimon doesn't want to be a girl. So the witches created this convolted plan to put Paimon in Peter, which succeeds at the end.
    The tragedy with Annie is:
    1. She genuinely loves her kids, but wasn't raised in a loving home and struggles to be a good parent. Her violent behaviour (trying to kill her kids) was her trying to 'save them' quite sincerely.
    2. She said at the start that she 'is blamed'. And she is. But really she was just like a doll in a doll house controlled by higher forces.

    to yall's question about charlie eating the cake without checking it: i feel like the beginning where her dad makes the comment about pneumonia and she says that's okay showed that charlie was passively suicidal. whatever her experience was being inundated with paimon from birth made her unconcerned with her own life, it's pretty likely she even hoped to die since that was a key part of the ritual.

    In the scene where the paint bottle falls over, if you pay attention, she doesn't do it. This movie is psychological horror perfection cause TRUE HORROR is tragedy, trauma. The sound design, saxophone by Colin Stetson, cymbals, ALL of it is just utterly brilliant. The only thing I hated truly was....ahem....The Academy idiots who did not at least nominate Toni Collette for her performance 😅 She should have WON an Oscar if you'd ask me, and at least a nominee for the incredibly raw portrayal of grief. It's also quite nice and fun to "tick" people off with Charlie's special noise 😂 I do it quite often when I''m stressed and eh, It really helps.

    I never know how to feel about the end of Charlie's career because yes she's a child but she would have died from the allergic reaction anyway so the tree was probably less painful and faster than the nut allergy. I'm also just always so angry at the mom, I only ever blame her, i can't blame the child because she's a child and they don't take allergies as seriously and her mom didn't give her an EpiPen before she left or even asked about it and I can't blame the son because his sister is gone and he just moved on instinct because he didn't know what else to do

      I thought she might have lived, I guess though idk how far the hospital was from that point. the epipen thing was super weird to me bc they're clearly a wealthy family and even though the Mom sucks in so many ways, I never got the feeling that she was 100% neglectful. just like.... 50% lol. but I think it's just one of many things in the movie that -had- to happen, for the ritual to occur etc.

    • @rebeccahopkins9522
      @rebeccahopkins9522 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your sympathies are vastly misplaced. Here’s why: CHARLIE DID NOT DIE BY THE POLE OR NUT ALLERGY. PAIMON LOST HIS HUMAN BODY AND WAS WITHOUT A VESSEL. CHARLIE WAS LONG GONE BY THEN, HAVING BEEN (horrifyingly) EXPELLED AS A BABY AND HER BODY POSSESSED BY PAIMON (see, it’s all even more effed up than you thought isn’t it? 😂). Charlie never really existed. It was Paimon that pole took the head off of. And It would have been soooo much better for everyone if Paimon had stayed that way. Cause Annie didn’t actually bring Charlie back through during the seance, she brought PAIMON through who had become Charlie.
      The only child to feel sorry for in this film is Peter.

    • @GoodTimeForARoll
      @GoodTimeForARoll ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rebeccahopkins9522 if what you say is true, Charlie was still an innocent child that was done wrong, so I'm still going to feel bad for the baby and child that could have been. Great watch-along. I, like other commenters, really appreciate your honesty about having seen it once. Your reactions for a rewatch are just as good as for a first watch.
    Where this movie is concerned, I personally found my second watch to be scarier than the first because "Hereditary" is all about dread---relentless and ever-growing dread that builds and builds and does not stop until the final frame of the film. Watching this film is a traumatizing experience. Like Her Majesty Queen of Horror Jamie Lee says, it's a film about trauma, but even worse---it is trauma. I think it stands alone among horror films for expressing cosmic levels of sadness and despair.

  • @ju2545
    @ju2545 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    U guys didn’t catch this but Charlie was Paimon the whole time. Her soul was separated from her body at birth because she was a host for Paimon. She had to be decapitated for Paimon to leave her body and go into Peter. So her death was planned.

  • @specificsoup
    @specificsoup 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So I watched a VERY Long and impressively extensive hereditary explainer vid by Novum. It’s … wow… but one thing he mentioned is there was confusion about the Peter hitting his head on the desk scene. It was a soft prop desk. And the actor said he has the ability to like dislocate his jaw on command basically so he did do that so his face looked messed up, but he didn’t break anything or bloody himself up from that scene besides his legs a little bit (from them hitting the desk underneath). A lot of people were saying he “actually broke his nose”
    More importantly… everyone was in the cult lmao
    Most of the background characters were actively plotting and part of it. The person you see thru the window when Peters at school seeing the blue light towards the end is his teacher 😅

    The Ultimate Mother Movie! Toni Collete proves that Oscars have no real value if they're not even nominating her.
    PS: Why is it not possible to save this video to a playlist? I save all your videos to a playlist of film reactions from my fave TH-camrs and just play them as a series, but this one won't let me save... UPD: Did you guys magic the "save" button into existence? Yay, thank you! Now I can re-watch this fabulous reaction video any time!

    The chalkboard joan uses to talk to her "grandson" isn't actually anything to do with a "grandson". You can see that she's literally just bought it when Annie meets her in the carpark of that store.

    Multiple cult members were definitely involved in taking the mom out of the grave, definitely wasn’t Annie
    Also the dad sat on the info that someone “desecrated” the grave which I always was like … he didn’t wanna concern Annie but he should have given thought to how weird her mother was and said something and maybe they could have prevented all this lmaoooo

    Hmm so, you asked (major spoiler alerts inbound): Hereditary is both typical Ari Aster fare -- Ari asks what if [demons, creepy European death/fertility cults/witches/Prometheus and Proteus had a "chat"] was real? How would it go? And then makes a movie of it [Hereditary, Midsommar/The Witch/The Lighthouse]. And Ari is brilliant. -- and it's also a movie about hereditary (duh), intergenerational trauma. (Trauma, from the word root "traum" -- to dream). It's both, at the same time. The trauma story is plain: father starved himself to death (do you know hard... how AWFUL that is? There's a reason that Buddhist monks self-immolate; I shit you not, that is both more painful and yet somehow easier than starving yourself to death), the brother hanged himself, the mother "wouldn't get her hooks out." But the other story is simply this: FAFO. Fuck around and find out. Now, I'm an atheist, and don't believe in the supernatural (also, react to Supernatural, pretty please?) but it can be fun to scare yourself with "what if" tales. So: "troubled family with typical troubled family issues, plus one FUCKED UP little girl gets in trouble. Nobody takes anything seriously, and a boy's stupid highschool arrogance leads to his sister's death. Hell descends. WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW IS: grammy was in a cult; they worshipped King Paimon, one of the eight Kings of Hell. All of this is ripped stttttraight from Aleister Crowley and (I believe) the Lesser Key of Solomon. Even those nonsense words (saxonby, dagondy, etc.) are just the (make believe) words of summoning. They're basically just a spell. *pant pant pant* But wait, there's more...
    King Paimon is... well, He is a King of Hell after all, and they are not to be meddled with. He apparently has some fascination with decapitation (not sure if this is from the "lore" or not... I actually have the Lesser Key in my Kindle library, but Crowley is just such a... tedious writer, that I can't get past that to the interesting stuff), his "color" is blue (notice the recurring use of the color blue?), and He (oops) manifests with flashes of blue light. Also look at the sigil upon the scepter he is carrying in the picture, and the oddly contorted hand gesture Peter makes when he... well, smashes his own face.
    ANYHOO, Grammy got the whole damned family into this cult simply because they were here family and she basically offered them as "pawns" for Paimon and his cult -- in the thoughts (read the heartfelt note from Gam Gam) that it would serve her well (from the noblest intentions is the road to Hell paved...). It... went about as well as can be expected and Hell Boy said "hey, you promised me souls. You promised me a 'healthy male host.' Sure, I manifested in this body -- Charlie (hint, hint, the head cutting off etc.) -- but it was WRONG, somehow. It wasn't MALE. So... literally... off with her head and on to the next host.
    SO: the movie is about horrific mental health issues (I ... resemble that remark) and the horrible toll they take on a family ("hell descends"). I come from a family history of... addiction, suicide, violence, and just batshit insanity. I know this stuff. Of course, I have never "summoned a King of Hell" because (another spoiler alert) they don't exist and (to quote Granny from Squidbillies): "that's just dumb."
    BUT: the bottom line is, if devils and demons are real, for nonexistent GOD'S SAKE: DON'T FUCK AROUND WITH THEM. Because it just... never ends well.
    Seriously, I love you guys. You should watch -- and DO -- Supernatural. You have a fan and a subscriber; I only wish I was gay. Sadly, I am not 😞My sister was!... before she... committed suicide 😞Does that make me... an "honorary gay?" 🤣(sorry: this hyper-autistic man JUST discovered emoji... I may be overusing them).
    Brav-fucking-oh. Best reaction to Hereditary I've watched yet. The best combination of real reaction -- like... er... the one cute little towhead (sigh. Bad with names) reacting to the nose trauma. I never even considered that was a THING... now I may have to put "trigger warnings" in shit when I talk about nose-picking?? THANKS, OBAMA!

    • @tomcanham9218
      @tomcanham9218 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I'm thinking of creating my own vlog -- which I will never monetize because... well... because reasons. Bravo, two adorable gay guys, for having the balls I don't have to expose yourself to ... the HORRIBLE people on this cesspool like on a daily basis. I'm a cisgender, hetero white male who -- while not rich -- is moderately well to do. A "wealthy male landowner." In other words, who this society was fucking BUILT to serve... and I'm too gutless to do that! Bravo. But I'm thinking of naming it something dumb like "Hi, I'm Tom" or "Tom's World" or "Tom's Hall of Two Truths" (my fascination with comparative religions -- all of which I don't just believe but KNOW somehow are just make believe; just "grown up fairy tales" -- shows keenly in the fact that I even RECOGNIZE garbage like saxonby dagondy etc.
      LAND THE PLANE, SCULLY!
      I want a "hook" at the beginning of each episode, and I was thinking something like this: "[Calm, welcoming voice] Hi! I'm Tom. Welcome to my world. [pause for a sec, then earnestly, regretfully, and a little sadly] I am **SO** sorry for what's about to happen to you." Thoughts? Too hokey by far, or just gimmicky enough, and then like John Popper said... the hook brings you back?
