I love how sloppy she is in this movie because it justifies how much of a pro she was in the original, even tiny little details like in first kill she doesn't lock the door, almost letting the mother see her putting on the bandages to hide her adult features and in the original she locks the door.
She definitely learned from her mistakes and that's how she was more convincing to the Colemans in Orphan (2009).

I knew something was so weird when Julia was showing the girl all the family members. The way she showed it, wasn’t as if she was like “look at your family since you left” and more so like “here’s the family you need to know because I know damn well you aren’t my child.” 🤣 she didnt even looked surprised when she came home.

Technically orphan first kill was a prequel so in the 2009 movie it did look like she died but we still don’t know
isabelle and julia killed their preformances this surpassed my expectations and the plot twist was unexpected. overall i loved it!!
They really were such a dynamic duo! Those performances + the twist really cemented this as one of the most fun movies of the year!
Esther was already a horror icon for me but this movie established it for me. Esther is here to stay and Esther is here to slay.... in more ways then one.
Never thought I'd see Isabelle Fuhrman and Jiula Stiles beating the living shit out of each other, but I needed this without knowing. 😭

This movie was a mind fuck in the best way possible and the twist was so unexpected. it did explain why Julia stiles didn’t seem happy to see her missing daughter she’s a deranged lunatic too but poor Lena/Esther I wanted her to eff them up so bad
Yes exactly!! Her performance in the first half makes SO much sense on a second watch and it’s actually a pretty complex showing when you think about it. Loved it!!!
Still shook by how great this was, & over ten years later? Maybe other horror franchises should take note, this was a great prequel. Didn't think anyone could touch Vera Farmiga's "mommy" role but Julia was AMAZING, mothering demonic spawn may be her calling. Oh and I'm so glad you guys commented on the similarities between the final showdown & act 3 of Scream 5, there were SO MANY...loved the parallels. Very entertaining reaction, as always!
It’s amazing because in the first movie they don’t give Esther must background which leaves space to create so many more movies around it. As each movie comes out, more details are reveled. This isn’t even all of her origin, which means there’s room for more movies to be made on how she ended up in the mental hospital in the first place. CHEF KISS!

Both Vera Farmiga and Julia Stiles played “mommy” to Esther. Both are horror queens that had to deal w/ demented children. Farmiga w/ Joshua, Norman, and Esther…Stiles w/ Damian and now Esther. I hope we get a third movie where Esther comes back to terrorize Vera Farmiga and her deaf daughter.

I had guessed that Gunnar and the mom knew from the beginning lol. When Esther first greeted Gunnar, you could see in his face that he knew. I feel like a sibling could be fooled, but he wasn’t for a second. Also, a mother always knows. Like even if they hadn’t killed Esther, she would’ve known it wasn’t her lol. The dad loved Esther so much and was so desperate to get her back that his brain didn’t even register that this was very clearly not his daughter. I was so excited that I guessed it right 😂. This movie is so good, it adds so much depth to Esther- now we get to see her adult side and it be more realistic cuz Isabelle is an adult and not 10. It’s like if you watch the original or this one again, you’ll notice things you didn’t before- or be able to create more depth to the story even if it wasn’t necessarily intended.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but the baby photos are actually Isabelle. In some of her films, you can see those same baby photos posted around the house she’s in which is cool. Also, I know it’s not horror but have you guys checked out her film The Novice yet? It’s really good
I honestly love how this is from Esther's point of view. So it feels like I'm watching a spy thriller, because we know that Esther is gonna outwit everyone, and I am on the edge of my seat to see how she gets there. And all the stuff after the big twist just convinces me even more that it's a spy thriller.
And omg her villain intro at the beginning is so good. You can just feel her in the red lights. She is everywhere.
I was afraid this was gonna be a rehash of how the original went. That twist had me Living. Like it got me at the edge of my seat and excited to see what happens next. Such a good prequel. And the psycho reference in the end… Chef’s kiss

I just love the Psycho references in this movie. How it tricks you into rooting for the villain, and then the last scene, when the camera zooms in on Leena looking all innocent. Really cool movie!

Couldn’t wait for ya’ll to review this. After watching ya’ll I rewatch the movie and I liked it so much better. Good plot twist. I was pulling for Esther after I found out what they did to the real Esther. And yesssss. The Dad is fine asf. Julia Styles tried but Vera Farmiga from “Orphan” is still undefeated 💕

Esther became an anti hero in this one and I was living for it. And also why yall rooted for Tricia? She literally dumped her daughter into a hole and covered it up. Then is mad at Esther for impersonating her?

Anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong buuuut I think the “glory of love “ song is played so much to show where she learned the song from the first movie …she had never heard that song until she first played the record player at this house and it’s a kids record player so it might be the only record she has😂😂 so she keeps replaying it …and then when you watch the first one her singing it in the orphanage to lure in the Vera farmiga family is that much creepier she like took the song from this family and used it for the next …thats my thoughts anyway probably why they keep referring back to song
This is a great theory!!! There were a lot of smart ways this movie tied into the first one and what you said makes complete sense. She really is like a siren when she’s singing that song!

I mean his mother fueled his ego by covering his tracks everytime he did something wrong by telling him that I will make everything right.And the way the dialogue went about killing people makes me feel that the mother-son duo did not stop at the first time.The son probably went around doing more crimes and if there were any witnesses the duo eliminated them.

OMG this had to be inspired by the true story that was covered in the documentary Imposter. There was a foreign guy who made up a total BS story to pose as a missing boy, and there were all kinds of theories that the family jumped on the opportunity to cover up the real missing boy. So good!

I really enjoyed the sequel or prequel I should say. I definitely like the twist because I was not expecting that at all but I have to say the only thing that bothers me about this film is that they were giving the audience too much information. I feel like there wasn’t enough ambiguity to it and that’s what made the first one so creepy because we didn’t know , it’s like the audience had to anticipate what was happening but right out the horses mouth so early on , the main protagonists were kind of spilling the tea on like everything so that’s my only complaint
