I grew up with Macgyver being one of the biggest emotional influences in my life and I could never repay Richard Dean Anderson for the amazing role and role model he showed the world and to and for kids like myself. He will never be forgotten in my heart and mind. Thank you again Richard!
I was recently asked "If you could have dinner with any 3 living people, who would you choose? Richard Dean Anderson was 1 of my 3. I have loved him as an actor for 30+ years. "Legend" was a favorite of mine, and I loved the original "Stargate" movie. So when I found out RDA was doing a "Stargate" tv series, I was ecstatic. I own every dvd of all 3 series, plus the movies.
"General Hammond, request permission to beat the crap out of this man." Love RDA's excellent portrayal. Love that bit at the end how a 9 year old girl fixes the problem, and the military listens. That's part of the reason why we have the best military in the world.
Stargate SG-1 was the truest successor to the spirit of Star Trek: TOS and TNG. The show brilliantly picked up that tradition of exploration of worlds, and the exploration of themes and philosophies. Had never heard these stories before. Such a great show, showing the best of us, the ideal. May we someday live up to our ideals.
I’m glad that Rick got honored in that way, he is such a humble man. I know he played his role to the best of his ability, with a little bit of humor, to make his working conditions more fun for everyone. Love him ❤️💕❤️
I love it when I find out an actor I like is a good person too. I got my dad into Stargate years ago. Still working his way through though because he likes to wait till I visit so we can watch together.
Had the honor to meet RDA last year at Comic Con Germany, that was one of the best days in my life. Hes truely a legend and a great person, and he has quit a firm handshake :DD
Not sure why this popped into my feed, but glad it did. Loved Richard as MacGyver and in Stargate. He seems like such a humble and eloquent guy. Great to see his work recognised in such an amazing way
When I was a Professor at West Point, our Department Head was a huge SG-1 fan, as was I. When he found out that I was a fan, I was invited over to his home weekly for an episode viewing. We became great friends and my wife and his wife still talk on the phone often. RDA was so great and he made the show fun. I miss all of the Stargate series and I am fortunate enough to own them all on DVD. I may have watched SG-1 20 times or more now. It is my go to show when I am running on the treadmill.
Rewatching the whole SG1 series right now, never gets old, so good. I hope they don't reboot it though, nothing good has ever come out of a reboot except when your computer has crashed
I was Active Duty Air Force under Gen. Jumper, going back to when he was over Air Combat Command. SG-1 and “Sci-Fi Fridays” was much looked forward to at the end of a always long week of work.
I just watched all the Stargate series for the first time a few years ago. I loved them so much I'm starting them all over again for the 3rd time already. I love SG-1 the best though. Of course I'm not young, but from what I've read a new generation of people are now watching it also.
I loved how the Air Force was shown in SG1. We don't get enough screen time. The other armed forces are shown over the USAF all the time. I applaud how they went out of their way to make sure the the AF was shown in a good light. They even show that the USAF also has their own special forces branch.
Richard Dean Anderson is a really good person, i met him once at Locarno beach, he was riding his bicycle, he stopped and said hello and was really friendly.
LOL. My wife has fond memories of Richard Dean Anderson almost running her over on his bicycle on Easts Hastings in Vancouver during the MacGyver series back in the late 80's. Glad I met and married her before she met him. I wouldn't have stood a chance. LOL Class act.
This was from many years ago but it still is an awesome one and really shows how much Richard has done to keep much respect for our military. Thanks B. for sharing this , Yol
I've been around the military whether as a brat, active duty, now spouse my entire life and I have never seen anyone given the title of honorary General. I'll take things that don't happen for a billion, Alex.
Now here is a celebrity you can tell isn't make believe and has real heart and cares about others on screen and off, miss Stargate and McGyver but there is always blurays.
A great show that captivated us brought to life by great actors. It promoted a decent sense of duty and gave us all a glimpse of what we can all achieve. RDA is just one of those special people who clearly went to great lengths to portray the best. He is a genuine hero in his own right and a positive credit to his craft.
Jack O'Neill was such a great character... What RDA brought to the role, I don't think anyone else could have at that time. Remember, when the show originally started, it was pretty cheesy, as was pretty much all TV at that time. RDA managed to embrace the cheese while also somehow being authentic, and a total bad ass. Joe Flanigan and Ben Browder did well to learn from how he approached his role...
RDA and SG1 were great examples for me, and the reason I began looking at the Air Force as a career. I joined as an officer to fly for the Air Force in 2015, and I loved every moment!
I wish some shows would do as much homeworks as Stargate did. Especially startrek, they're drifting away more and more from any kind of serious military portrayal. And that was very nice of the Air Force to treat Richard that way. Thank you.
The thing is, Star Trek doesn't really do military. Starfleet is NOT a military organisation by default. Its an Exploration organisation. Star Trek is not fighting in space (well, now it is that a lot), but meant to showcase a vision for a better tomorrow. A tomorrow where we humans overcome our worst instincts and work together to create a utopia.

Stargate makes you want more stargate,I watch all the reruns I can watch .hope for more stargate.I am a fan of the show and I was In the air force.
Richard Dean Anderson a step above...SG1 was the best...proof you don't need to be in the military to be a patriot.
I sure miss him on TV. He's still got the great voice and great hair!
Rick Anderson comes across as a genuine and decent man. Loved the interview.
"General Hammond, request permission to beat the crap out of this man." Love RDA's excellent portrayal. Love that bit at the end how a 9 year old girl fixes the problem, and the military listens. That's part of the reason why we have the best military in the world.
He is one of my favorite actors. God bless him !! Totally deserves to be honored. Thanks for the many years of entertainment Sir.
I'm sure your Dad was proud of you LONG before you got this award!
I think he was referring to his honorary Brigadier General rank at that point, but I could be wrong.
Love him ❤️💕❤️
I really do miss his character in that show. He really was awesome.
Thank you. Yes and he is an awesome person too.
they all were great actors.
DemonKnight Gaming yes. That is true as well but he was my favorite.
Good man! We need more humble people like him in Hollywood.
Love this guy, SG1. And I still watch the show whenever I can, it will never get old.
Great to see his work recognised in such an amazing way
Jack O'neill is the best character ever created and nobody could of done it better then Richard Dean.
I describe Stargate as: "so basically, the U.S. military finds portals to other planets and uses them to kick ass in space."
It's also one of the only Sci-Fis that doesn't show Military people as being all automatically evil/incompetent/"Bad Guys" *cough*Doctor Who*cough* .
@@thebighurt2495 That's one of the big reasons I liked the show, it felt plausible and realistic most of the time.
So it's Star Trek without ships?
@@thebighurt2495 It was also the only sci-fi show I've seen that showed them on humanitarian and outreach missions in addition to combat.
R O F L M A O
We need to bring back this show.
I agree!
Love it.
I guess it's time to watch all of Stargate all over again. :)
Stargate SG-1 was my favorite TV show.
At one point this show had more than a dozen military advisors.
Richard is a national treasure!
Truly a humble human being. One of the all time greats
A hero and leader on both sides of the camera. That's reality tv. Thank you for the video.
Hope Amanda Tapping also received an award. She definitely inspired women in multiple field (science, tech, leadership, etc)
Totally agree. STEM (STEAM) program recruiter #1
Im pretty sure Richard portrayed what he would have been like if he really was an officer. my childhood hero right there.
Hollywood needs to start finding more people like RDA. Such an amazing person.
He really is that humble in person.
My absolutely favorite show of all time. I rewatch it every couple of years. No other show comes even close.
I started crying when they gave him honourable general of USA!
Exactly! I'm not crying, you're crying!
Do I know u?
Holy crap - I was there for that. He was pretty cool, and made a point to visit everyone in the conventional hall beforehand.
Very cool!
So cool!!
What JAG and David James Elliott were to the Navy, Stargate SG1 and Richard Dean Anderson were to the Air Force...
I never thought of it like that. JAG was a very good show as well.
Now it's the US Space Force!
I loved how the Air Force was shown in SG1. We don't get enough screen time. The other armed forces are shown over the USAF all the time. I applaud how they went out of their way to make sure the the AF was shown in a good light. They even show that the USAF also has their own special forces branch.
Years later, still makes me smile.
same here
Richard Dean Anderson is a really good person, i met him once at Locarno beach, he was riding his bicycle, he stopped and said hello and was really friendly.
dad for sure would be proud!!!
I am sure he would !!
Binge watching SG1 atm. Watched it on cable tv since as a teenager and now as a adult on a streaming app. Timeless show love it.
LOL. My wife has fond memories of Richard Dean Anderson almost running her over on his bicycle on Easts Hastings in Vancouver during the MacGyver series back in the late 80's. Glad I met and married her before she met him. I wouldn't have stood a chance. LOL Class act.
i miss this show
Amazing gesture from the Air Force kudos! And of course Richard is a real Brigadier General 😁
COVID-19 lock down = SG1 and Atlantis binge watch for the first time in at least 10 years, great shows.
Wish my mother could have seen this. It would have brought back memories of her old office in the Pentagon.
Best TV series in history! Loved Stargate SG1
RDA is a marvellous actor and SG1 an intelligent, well written show which has stood the test of time.
Total respect - not only Richard but for the entire phenomenon called SG1....
I got to meet Richard dean anderson at comicon. It was one of my fondest memories. He is an amazing person!
I agree, I have meet him twice and he is amazing.
Wow i wish to meet Richard Dean Anderson one day..💕
@@annelizealbertse6018 I hope you get the chance someday he is an absolute gentleman and wonderful human being.
A great and admirable man. I salute you Richard Dean Anderson
Richard Dean Anderson, such a humble man, man did I enjoy watching SG-1 throughout it’s 10 year reign plus all the spinoffs. Amazing stuff!
I Miss RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON
This was an awesome interview. I really wish this show was on season 22 by now...
This was from many years ago but it still is an awesome one and really shows how much Richard has done to keep much respect for our military. Thanks B. for sharing this , Yol
Richard you are a legend we love you.
Love this Actor! His character is my hero!
I hadn't watched this series, too busy back then but have just binged all ten seasons plus two movies !!! I miss them already ,,
I've been around the military whether as a brat, active duty, now spouse my entire life and I have never seen anyone given the title of honorary General. I'll take things that don't happen for a billion, Alex.
Now here is a celebrity you can tell isn't make believe and has real heart and cares about others on screen and off, miss Stargate and McGyver but there is always blurays.
Love Richard Dean Anderson. Fantastic interview. Thank you
One of my absolute favorite actors.
SG1 was and still is my favorite show. Still watch the 10 yr. DVDs and 5 yr. Stargate Atlantis DVDs.
Oh how I miss them both.
A great show that captivated us brought to life by great actors. It promoted a decent sense of duty and gave us all a glimpse of what we can all achieve. RDA is just one of those special people who clearly went to great lengths to portray the best. He is a genuine hero in his own right and a positive credit to his craft.
RDA is an awesome actor to watch and a really neat guy. I actually got to meet him at a local comic con a few years back. Cool interview!
I really loved that show. We don't seem to have anything like that any more.
The golden age of television.
