    I went crazy on buying white sneakers over the last few years and I own the Great Royale Blanco and the New Republic Kurt. While they are pretty amazing, there are days where I feel like wearing my Reebok Club C 85's and Stan Smith's even if they are lower quality leather lol. I always come back to where I started I guess. Dr Scholl's cushion inserts helps alot in the lower tier/budget leather shoes but that's just personal preference.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good video & information. I just gave away my New Republic white sneakers to Goodwill, after having them for over 3 years, they still look somewhat okay. Having said that, the same day I purchased another pair of the New Republic I received for my birthday a pair of Common Projects. In my humble opinion, both sneakers feel good to me & look great.

      Not only are Crowns truly the most minimal, with the least amount of accent stitching, but they're the only ones I know with white metal eyelets instead of bare shoelace holes for durability. (And since they're handmade to order, you can ask them to do without the eyelets if you'd prefer anyway.)

      @Todd Cercone I take no pleasure from the decline. A few decades ago Adidas withdrew Stans from the Canadian market. They were gone for years before they were re-introduced. I called Adidas and a service rep told me that he got more calls about Stan Smith's than all their other shoes combined. Clearly, Adidas doesn't see this iconic design in its long-term plans and decided to milk it for all it is worth...until it dies.

    A well known yet often over looked brand is Mephisto, French brand known for comfort and super high quality, they've been hand making shoes in France since the 60's. Their white sneaker is the Mephisto Cristiano, but the good thing is that you can get the same quality and craftsmanship as Common Projects or Koio, but for a lower price point. (P.S. plus they have 'Soft Air' in the heel for cushioning).

    • @MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou
      @MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's so rare to hear Mephisto ever being mentioned. No idea why that is. I love their shoes; I've built up a collection of 25 pairs (all second-hand from eBay) since just the start of this year. I've got a white sneaker from them, though it's not the Cristiano. It doesn't have the typical minimalist design, but for $85 including shipping and tax, I can't complain. :)

    • @tentimetex
      @tentimetex ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou yeah you''re right! i think its because they're a brand with a cult following, they strictly control their distribution too. They have Mephisto stores in all major cities and they dont do any big advertising. They're super comfortable and focused on health of the foot and the gait. Plus, i think they started doing 'air' cushioning in the heel even before Nike in the 70's ;-)

    • @MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou
      @MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tentimetex I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that they're bigger in Europe, and the US market is just a secondary market for them. I've reached out to their customer service a few times, and they're surprisingly responsive, although they haven't been able to help me identify old models I bought off eBay if they're no longer in production. They mentioned Mephisto introduces over 600 new styles every year, and the U.S. adopts around half of those. Though, the same dozen or so models tend to appear over and over again on eBay.

    In my opinion it's the toe box construction that makes the Common Projects unique. The toe box is flat and sleek with almost no dome shape to it. All the other shoes get close, some really close, but not quite 100%. Whether or not that detail is worth the price up to person buying, though it is possible to find them on sale. I do really like the Koios, might get them in grey.

    I recently bought a pair of Ralph Lauren Court 100 Luxe. Awesome mixture of the 80s tennis shoes and the modern era’s sneakers. The quality is top as you’d expect from RL. Oh, and it was on sale, so I got it for 60€ instead of 160€. I recommend it!

      How's the durability so far? I'm also thinking about spending a bit more than I usually do on some Ralph Lauren sneakers since I usually have to buy new white leather sneakers every 6 months or so

      @@KRaikkonenSF They’re still holding up! It’s quite amazing, considering the fact that I bought them two years ago. I’ve been wearing them often, and of course there are signs of that by now, but overal, the look of them is still very good. They’re very comfortable. The key thing is maintaining; clean them as often as you just can, and will serve you for many years. I am absolutely not planning to buy a new pair of white sneakers in the near future, because these RL ones are holding up very very good. I am still recommending it, you cannot go wrong with them, either by their look and the durability.

      good, cause I can get commons for 250€ but still i'd say if there's another cool brand making the same thing for less... well :)@@albertkaszas9066

    Have a few Oliver Cabells for sneakers and Thursday Boots for boots... I’ve been eyeing the Thursday’s sneakers. Good to hear that they’re great too.
    Also, Brock nice watch : ). Recently got the text on the new 36mm Explorer and wearing it now. Great minimalist watch

      @@BrockMcGoff Thanks! Yes I think it’s a great upgrade on all parts - the lume, newer movement with a higher power reserve, and the updated bracelet. If you had the recent 39mm, I would say it’s not too worth it.
      There’s a few comparison videos out now for the last 36 mm to the newer 36mm worth checking out. Also I would wait until the hype dies down. I think 3rd party sellers are taking advantage of the hype and pumping up the price. It’s getting ridiculous and ruins it for everyone.

    Cole Haan Grand Pro Tennis shoes are by far the best alternative for Common Projects. For $150 they're a fraction of the cost, and last the same amount of time if you take care of them.

    $425 is much more than I'm willing to pay for a pair of sneakers, so this is a very welcome video. These all seem like great choices with a nice range of prices. I have wider feet than average so, which would be the best shoe for me? (obviously not the Oliver Cabell haha). Thanks.

    I came across a company called RCD Paris who has a "Cannes" which is clearly a CP clone but currently on sale at £55 I think it's better value than the Stan Smiths. Has leather lining and full calf skin leather but I have no idea about the company so no idea on quality. Would be worth testing imo. They also have a model called the Marseille which is a GAT and also the same price currently. All I can tell is it is an Indian/British collab company... So chances on cheap Indian labour are high.

    I really like the fit/feel of Stan Smiths but they wear through so fast. I'm on my third pair because I get full on holes in the sole that start filling up with stones. It's hard for me to take a punt on a more expensive shoe, because I walk through dirty rainy cities, and also can't easily try them on to check the fit (whereas Stans are available all over)

      I bought a pair of Greats Royale from Nordstrom Rack for $85 ish out the door. They are basically a pretty decent sub $200 minimalist sneaker alternative that you can actually try on if you go to the right stores. I can't compare to Stan Smiths but others have and everyone seems to agree Greats are a couple notches up in every way when it comes to quality.
      That said, they retail for I think ~$170 so you gotta find them on sale. Nordstrom Rack might have other lesser known brands of leather minimalist sneakers on sale of a similar quality. Have a look around those types of stores instead of foot locker etc.

      Nothing wrong with Stan’s, I’ve been wearing then for decades! I find them extremely comfortable, but you’re definitely right about the sole wearing thin! To me all these shoes are just copies of the Stan Smith just with better leather!

    Oliver Cabel doesn’t have half sizes and they really hurt my feet. Never really broke in or expanded. I want to love them. I still wear them often (wearing them now) but I’m not buying again. So if you’re a half size I would advise against it until they offer half sizes. Otherwise I would purchase again.
