Basically everything you didn’t like has been fixed for the newest 10 foot slayer as well as other things. Those foam bags does on yours dry rot-they’re bmx handles with nice rubber now. They fixed the taco paddle holder angle (they’re straight now), the pull pins now have a finger hole on the pedal drive and storage hatch pins. The only thing they haven’t done is added thumb screws to the tank well bungee but I’m going to add those myself for cheap. In my opinion, the 10 foot slayer propel max is the best fishing kayak on the market. The 12 footers are just too heavy for one person.
Yeah first day owning the slayer... I cracked the front hinge already... did not know the hatch was open, went to flip the yak.... and the hatch flew open and cracked the hinge. So I agree.. some items flimsy... but hopefully it’s replaceable.
Im glad to hear that yours fits that least tells me that its my paddle that is the problem. I tried some graphite lube on the clips and no luck on them being easier. Im with you and hope that just over time they get easier to work.
I'm curious about this boat, but man, that front hatch really throws me. Why they chose to put such a massive hatch and cover for such small access is beyond me. I feel like they should've nixed the oddly-shaped battery compartment in lieu of more access to the hull, where you can fit a battery box like you did. Also surprised how flimsy the hatch cover and hinge are and I don't like those closure clips either. Boat seems super well thought out other than that and I love the hull shape. I think I'd also prefer to have a paddle holder system that doesn't require you to assemble the paddle. Seems like a bad idea if you need to do something quick like pull your drive up and keep out of cover in the wind. Thanks for the thorough and honest review!
A few other things to add, the rudder plate area need a small grove on it like the access hatch so you dont get a puddle of water in there and may leak into the hull through the rudder cable hole like the titan. Also need to add a left side sacrifice plate for folks who want FF on the left so dont have to drill the hull. Also I think it be good to just keep the front hatch open like the titan 12 instead of splitting it into 2 part. Put a removal battery box in there for the battery box instead of a built in like that.
Good honest review. I noticed the same type things with my old Native Slayer. I was considering purchasing one, but I'm going to wait to see if Native corrects these issues.
Nice video. Two things of improvements I plan on doing that you would probably like. 1 harbor freight has the small solar panels for like $15 that will keep your battery charged while using it on the water all day. 2 pedals, I plan on putting the anti slip pad that you see on wooden wheelchair ramps. Black and thin like paper. Peel in stick. Will be better than spikes getting it and out the boat so no stabbing your shins.
Good review! Just curious, how tall and heavy are you? How do you like standing/fishing in it? I'm 6' 215#, and thinking about a 10 1/2' Native. Slayer or Titan? Interested in your thoughts.
Drop me a line and let me know what your thoughts are on the video.. You may have other points i haven't seen or thought of so if so let me know so we can all gain some knowledge..
Great review! I have the same boat. Is that the trailer you use to transport your Slayer? I have a similar trailer, I don’t know if I should use the trailer bunks or remove them like your trailer. Any input will help. Thanks
That trailer i have there is not yet completed i will end up with bunks on it but going to make it a double so my wife can haul her kayak as well and some rod tubes.
You sure the paddle halves aren't supposed to store, flipped around? In other words, flip it so the shafts drops into those grooves, and the blades face forward?
Wstn mine came just like you see it. I would maybe check and see if they maybe they put the wrong screws on yours. I’m going to end up taking mine off noticed today while on water that left side rod holder put the rod right over the rudder handle and ended up not using that side because of it.
Yah Took mine off anyway since I added the native sidekick landing gear and it gets in the way of them. How did you like the boat on the water? Haven’t taken mine out it will be a few months before the lakes melt up here
Wstn I took mine out today and did a little fishing over all on the water I’m pleased with it. Was able to stand up and fish little wobbly but been in less stable. Speed and turning was the most noticeable part it’s fairly fast at easy pass and turns on a dime.
The best review I've seen in years. He didn't miss anything
Thank you very much.
I just bought one myself. And for what they cost, I think your opinion is honest and valid

I think the best way to fix the paddle holder bracket would be to put 1 bolt in the middle rather then 2.. this way it pivots to meet any angle needed
Great video pointing out the little Fit & Finish things that should be addressed.

My paddle fit fine. I do agree the clips are tight and my hope is over the summer they become easier to operate.

Well done, thanks man! Shopping for a pedal to upgrade from my big rig and this yak is on the short list....your review helped me.

I just bought the same yak and rigging it up this weekend. Your negatives are mine as well.
There needs to be more reviews like this. And the LED lights you threw up on the front - good work.
NATIVE makes different latches now with a loop at the end to pull them easier

I like the lighting
thanks for sharing lad... greetings from Greece

Thanks for sharing. You have some great ideas.
That’s a damn fine review right there!

How do you like the rudder? Turn radius and what not.
Good video and info, just subscribed! This is definitely one of the kayaks that I’m looking into as a future purchase!

For 2600$, you are right they better fix those loose ends...
Nice review!

i tired that but the grove is at a off set and different angle then the holder.
Just use some dry film lube not wd40 on those front clips.
Biggest downfall is the price. I'm my opinion this is a $1000 dollar boat with a $500-$700 pedal drive. Thanks for the honest review.
My rod butt holders didn’t come with the thumb screws it has a philips screw..

Nice hope to see an on the water review!
Wstn definitely will be one. working on the editing for it now so maybe by tomorrow I’ll have it all done.
I’m a Native owner, and that bow is nothing less than hideous. Someone took a huge bite out of it.
I think it looks great tbh lol. Different things for different people I guess
This guy can review shit. He should be paid.
