They recorded the song in one take. 15 minutes from when they entered the studio to when they left the studio. They are one of the most underrated bands of all time, possibly the most.

I found the smiling guitarist quite funny. Alan Price brilliant keyboard skills went on to have a successful solo career with the Alan Price Set.

The instrumentals are amazing. But I'm kinda surprised u didn't mention Eric's voice. Most people immediately say, wow I didn't expect that amazing voice coming outta that baby face of his. Lol

This was recorded in 2 takes. They did the first take to set the balance on the board, and the second was this recording.

It is performed brilliantly by the Animals and is also a song with a message. The House of the Rising Sun is a traditional folk song referring to a ‘house of ill repute’ (a brothel), it was likely originally written to be sung by a female singer, and refers to living a miserable life working as a prostitute in a brothel in new Orleans (brothels were legal in New Orleans and thriving right up into the early 20th century). Its original intention when taken in this context was to warn young women to avoid prostitution, otherwise they would live a life of misery that is difficult to escape from. When male singers covered it had to take on a somewhat different meaning, and then becomes a warning about visiting these ‘houses’ (brothels), which also often had other activities going on in them too, such as excessive drinking, drugs and gambling. Of course at the time the song was written there was also no real cure for STD’s, syphilis in particular was a real problem before the advent of penicillin, if you caught it you would just have to live with it which could lead to a number of horrendous symptoms. So ultimately it is a cautionary tale about avoiding brothels as they lead to a miserable life. Many folk singers female and male have covered this song previously, but the Animals made it popular outside of folk circles, by modernising it (by 60’s standards) and turning it into a bluesy pop song. Indeed, it made number 1 in 1964 in the UK (where the Animals are from). The Animals also had hits with ‘We gotta get out of this place’ which reached number 2 in the UK charts, and ‘don’t let me be misunderstood’, which reached number 3 in the UK charts, both also great songs. As an aside the lead singer Eric Burdon is said to be the ‘egg man’ referred to in the Beatles song ‘I am the Walrus’.
