The Fiat 500X is a jacked-up crossover version of the popular Fiat 500 city car. It's the latest in the growing 500 range, and sits alongside the 500 and 500L and is aimed at those looking for the same retro looks but with a bit more of a rugged image. cute car,love it,very retro but at the same time modern,great car for a family who wants a lifestar family car.
I love them both. I owned a 500 for a while but the wife wanted a bigger car so i got the 500x. 49k+ miles now and noproblems at all. Very reliable and so much fun to drive.
With Gopedal, lightweight pulley it feels like a mini ferrari.
I have the fiat500 for over four years now and seriously looking at this for the extra room and some extra speed for taking off into fast traffic, 500 is cute as but time for a bit for room! Wish they came with a sunroof though lol
@@lidiawilliams4837 , The 500X is fun to drive but if you really want to make it fast you can buy the "GOPEDAL" from 500 Madness. They are located in California.
To make the engine even more peppy I changed the pulley to a lightweight version.
You might feel some increased vibrationa at idle but it is very mininal.
Now, the new 500x come with the turbo 1.3 engine so all you might need is the GOPEDAL . It takes about 5 minutes to install. My car model is the 500x Trekking Plus with the 2.4 liter engine bought in 2016. This model has a sunroof which I absolutely love.

*Had the 4x4, 2l, diesel version and it was fantastic. Great throttle response.
great little car fun to drive and very practical , i got the trekking plus its awesome! i think fiat is gettin more serious on cars!

+Firemarioflower There is no such thing as blind Italian fanboy as Fiat didn't cheated. VAG did which makes you blind. Giulia is inspired by Ferrari and Maserati.
+Firemarioflower I understand your rage, you will pay much more for Audi than for Alfa and still drive car which is original like Eiffel tower in China. There are some similarities between Alfa and Ferrari and Maserati but any similarity with Audi is because Audi copied Ferrari solutions.

Air vents, A/C knobs, tail lights...are all taken from Alfa Romeo.
Alfa Romeo was also source of inspiration in Seat (hidden rear door hanles...)

At the end, it is not a shame to copy from Alfa as it is the best and the most beautiful.
+Firemarioflower His last name is Marchionne and he didn't ruin or kill anything. He actually bought Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge and today these are making the best cars in their history. Because of these investments Alfa and especially Lancia didn't introduce new models as expected. Anyway 500, Ypsilon, MiTo, Giulietta, Ghibli... are the most remarkable vehicles in their segments.

Good review .. like the car but not sure I'd actually buy one!
Nice review. I've seen several reviews of this car which I'm thinking about buying. The 4x4 Mk1 version though which is important for us. Strangely, the reviews contradict each other about important matters like comfort, space and practicality. I suppose they are subjective judgements so bet to go look and try for ourselves.
We presently have a diesel Panda 4x4 and that has served us well with winter tyres in the rural hilltop village where we live with cold icy snowy or wet winters. The Panda is adept at pulling larger cars out of muddy icy involuntary off road excursions and I imagine the 500X would continue that performance but with more space and comfort.
wish you would state the price of the different models and specs.
StateFarm says the extras are nice to have good for you by getting them... but you ain’t getting no break on your premium...

The rear light situation gently reminds me of the Bentley Bentayga.
Today's regular 500 is retro which is fine. But why is retro 50s style being included in a modern day trend? (the crossover)
+Undiscovered TH-camr Because it's a 500 and people buy them. A lot like all Minis are retro in about the same way, like the competing Clubman. It just as well could have been styled as a mainline pure modern Fiat and been called something else. They also make the Renegade on the same platform in the same factory. The Renegade looks all Jeepish because it's a Jeep. It's much more retro than Jeeps like the Grand Cherokee or Cherokee, which only have some original Jeep references blended in.
You may not like the retro thing, but if you buy it both the Fiat 500X and the Mini Clubman are beautifully styled in that mode inside and out. I don't know if I would buy either but like the 500 it's fun to look at just about every little area inside and out and the overall design is pretty state of the art as well.
Actually to me a lot of the super creasy zig zag origami busy style trend of a lot of the latest Japanese design is pretty questionable.
I think that alloy wheels and air cond should be standard in any car , why would I spend a ton of cash for a brand new car that is like a shell on tin wheels ?

I did not hear of any downsides. That's pretty impressive! Most of the cars that carbuyer is reviewing has downsides.. Ofc this one has to have some issues aswell. But they didn't mention any.

well, this car and the Jeep Renegade share the same platform, but I say the Renegade is absolutely better, in terms of looks and capability and road presence as well, not to mention the Jeep Selec-Terrain 4×4 system with different modes.

How about the reliability? My sis wanted the 500 and the turd had many problems, the fuel pump was breaking all the time, the auto gear box was eating the fly wheel every 7000 km, the engine was drinking the oil and the final drop was a problem with the breaks (the ABS was failing and the pressure was dropping).
Personally if the reliability is bad in a car, I'd rather piss of the style, retro looks and cuteness...

So this is my favourite of the crossovers and I still don't really like it. Also for the 'Alternative's' the Juke and the Countryman you wouldn't go for them because they are catastrophically ugly. Still don't understand the point of these cars over say a traditional family hatch.
+The Real Emile Taller? Haven't Golf and Focus and Citroen and Renault had extra tall hatch versions out for a while? I guess the similar cars labeled CUV have more ground clearance and can come with AWD. Maybe theoretically a little tougher for AWD lite offroading.

A friend of mine has one of these. Says it's been in the garage more than the road and that they totally regret buying it. Someone in my work also got one as a hire car, and, as a passenger, I can say it wasn't very comfortable. To be fair to the 500x, it isn't just it that's crap, it's all these silly wee soft roaders. Ford Ecosport, Honda HRV, Renault Captur, Vauxhall Mokka and so on, they are all rubbish compared with the cars they are based on!
It's fell out of the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down.
