@@dienekes4364 Actually, Walmart is one of the largest employers nationwide, and if they were to go out of business right now, 1.4 million people would be without a job. No one is forced to work there, or anywhere else in the United States. You can always learn new skills and apply to other jobs. The term "exploit" implies that people are being forced to work there which isnt true. If you want to make more than minimum wage, you need to develop more than minimum skills and have more than minimum enthusiasm. If walmart were to raise wages, they could no longer afford to have the low prices they do, and they would no longer be able to employ so many people. Walmart has made basic goods available at extremely low prices thanks to their ability to commit to such large quantities. If you apply to Costco yourself, you will discover that they only hire seasonal employees, part time, and in some cases (like butchers) pay about 25% less than the competition. You do have the ability to get called after the season for a full time offer, and I have nothing against this practice, as its determined by free market forces. No one is forced to work there either. The most basic skill you can do in our economy today is run a cash register. If that's all you have to offer, you arent in a place to ask for higher wages. Theres people without any wage at all that will happy replace a minimum wage cashier for the same postion. In fact, theres a large line of people waiting for that opportunity. When you apply to and accept a job, you are agreeing to exchange your time and labor for the agreed upon rate. That's not exploitation, that's a mutual agreement and exchange. If Walmart or Costco goes out of business, the owners (shareholders) will take huge devestating and permanent losses, meanwhile the minimum wage worker will be compensated with unemployment and without taking the risk of owning the business, can simply get another minimum wage job somewhere else.
Every business is profit seeking. Even the companies that treat their employees great and provide great benefit packages do so to attract better talent who will in turn provide higher quality work which will turn a better profit. They are two strategies with the same goal. Costco isnt a nonprofit. If you expect your employer not to care about profits, you shouldnt care about getting paid.

@@JohnSmith-zs1bf _"Walmart is one of the largest employers nationwide"_ -- When you start out with a fallacy, it's hard for me to go further. Again, this is MEANINGLESS in whether or not they help or hinder the economy. Exploiting more workers doesn't mean they are "good" for society.

Natural Grocers, Sprouts, and HEB plus would be the 3 grocery stores i shop at that i'd like to see. but, it might be nice to see some ethnic grocery stores as well.. like asain markets, mexican markets like la michoacana, and middle eastern markets. HEB plus has an amazing cheese section, 2 different cheese sections, the one by the deli has 6 different raw cheeses and probably over 50 imported cheeses.

Hey, Thomas, you're always hating on carrageenan. Have you considered making a video about most of the stabilizers/stuff-like-that that we can find in the processed foods? Like gellan gum and other stuff... which ones are a total no-go and which ones are acceptable?
I know it's good to go for non-processed as much as possible, but you know, let's be realistic, sometimes it's hard to go full paleo.

    • @crislopez9697
      @crislopez9697 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would pay attention to carageenan which is a carcinogen (breaks down into one) and with gums rather focus on how well you tolerate them (: going paleo isnt just to eat all natural for names sake, you also have to consider which minimally processed foods do or dont affect you. Of coarse not Gold fish, crackers, or processed meats with nitrates added, rather a little food dye, guar and gellan gum, sunflower lecithn, do or do you not tolerate them?

Watch out for that particular feta at 33:00, it has an antifungal added (natamycin) that is used in Europe for eye infections (40 mg a day for eye infections). In some countries it is banned but not here in the United States. This could disturb the gut microbiome... also because fungi are eukaryotic and human cells are also eukaryotic, antifungals (anti-mold agent in this case) tend to do more damage in the human body.

    Hello Thomas,
I just wanted to say that your channel is really good.
You always back up what your saying with some science behind it.
You explain stuff in a good and clear way so that's great (especialy for newbies to keto like myself).
    Keep up the great work.
    Cheers

Love the Wholly Guacamole Minis - you can freeze them, too!

Karen Marbach Great tip! That means you could throw a mini in a blender for a smoothie too! 😱😁😁

@@karenmarbach817 I think she means the avocado minis that wholly guacamole makes, that you can freeze as well and put in smoothies. I'm so glad that they came out with those too..

They're gross and def would not put them in a smoothie. At some Walmarts they have Wholly Avocado, which doesn't have the seasonings.

If you're looking for a low carb alternative, check out Biltong. It's from South Africa, and is delicious. Think Jerky without the sugar and a slightly different texture.

I'm Canadian and love Costco, read labels like crazy and we dont have all the same ingredients here but a lot of them are the same and I got a bonus on which to avoid completely. Thank You!!! Costco is expensive but SO worthwhile!!!

Would really like a cheat sheet on what to look for on the ingredient labels that’s bad for you! There is just so many things you mention that I wouldn’t remember if you said it was bad or ok! Help!! Thanks!

This would be great! I'm wondering if the soy protein isolate and milk protein concentrate in the Ensure nutrition shakes are ok... I mean it has canola oil so I'm thinking it's no good 😳

If you watch a few of his shopping videos you'll remember. A lot are pretty repetitive. What I usually follow is just if you see sugar of any sort, or tapioca or startch, honey, cane.. it's a big no no for me. Look at the carb section too.. see the serving size + how much carb you'll get ..
