    Have this one. It's got really good hold but also washes out pretty well in the shower. And all natural. So basically everything I wanted in a pomade. The smell is a bit offbeat to begin with, but you get used to it really quickly.

    great video again!
    just got 2 new o'douds wb yesterday. i can't say the breakdown is any different, still takes work to break it down. i find that if you spread it in your hands and let the air hit it for 10 seconds or so, it mixes a lot easier, also, small amounts break down faster.
    the hold is bang on, just like the old, but it is as James says, a lighter feel. love this stuff.
    yeah, its a 3 or 4 shampooing to remove, but worth every second of effort.
    to date, o'douds wb, and ominous style's embalmers grease medium are my must have unorthodox water based.
    i still love my woody's water based, although orthodox, it works great in my hair. i have some uppercut, and imperial in transit, we'll see if i still like the woody's after i give these arrivals a go.
    keep up the good work.
    ps. in my humble opinion. o'douds, and ominous style products are far from water based. they contain oils, and waxes, and water does not effect them like a true water based gel type pomade. suavecito, woody's washes out in one shot. the unorthodox pomades spoken of here, are amazing non the less.
    carry on.... :)

    +The Pomp I was just curious when and why you set aside the Kent comb in favor of what you use now. What type of comb is it that you now use and why did you move away from the Kent after your article about how it's better for the scalp?

  • @marcjohn9404
    @marcjohn9404 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Their original oil-based is the best pomade I've ever used by pretty much every measure. It lasts, it doesn't have petroleum, it has good shine and it allows your hair and scalp to BREATHE.
    And the scent is a kick-ass bay rum.

    So I bought shear revival crystal lake, I like it. I tried suavecito firmer, I probably won't but it again. I am doing a slick back, textured with my fingers, and I like the pliable and moist, wet look, any suggestions?

    Bought this per your suggestion and used it for 3 days.
    1. Obscenely difficult to apply for something that is "water based"
    2. Still refuses to break down
    3. Water does nothing to it .: good luck washing it out without a shampoo that has a significant amount of oils in it
    4. Does not hold nearly long enough
    Oh well. Back to Teddy Boy and Fiber Grease. I'd try the reformulated Crystal Lake but it's no longer on Amazon

    Am I the only one that thinks Shear Revival's Crystal Lake sucks?
    Perhaps it's just my hair specifically, but it is fairly terrible for me... It makes hair super greasy, the hold is sub-par (I get "rogue hairs" in the front), I can't get much height at all, and to top it all off it actually seems to make my hair look thinner somehow.
    This isn't to say Shear Revival is terrible, I just genuinely want to know if anyone else has these problems because everyone seems to think it's the best thing ever. Makes me wonder if I got a faulty jar or something haha.

    If anyone is into these things i have a few questions. If the product contains only natural ingredients does that mean I can leave it in my hair for a few days without washing it off and it wont cause any damage to my hair. Also since it has different types of oils doesnt that mean it is good for the hair. Thanks in advance.

  • @mmhoss
    @mmhoss 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'd like to stress that black ship was not at all water based. Shit, it wasn't even water soluble in the slightest bit. Water and normal shampoos did jack shit to your hair, buildup or not. It required me to use this hemp oil shampoo just to remove around 75% of it, then the rest would build up whether I liked it or not. It also was not slick _at all_. Super tacky and sticky. Hold was a 9/10 and endurance was 12/10(I pulled a few all nighters and my hair remained as pristine as when I'd styled it, not even any splits). That being said, I'd only recommend it basically if you have insanely curly hair. The hold is not worth the hassle of washing it out

    • @J0SH.0
      @J0SH.0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      water based, and water soluble are two different things. so saying blackship isn't water based is factually incorrect.

    • @mmhoss
      @mmhoss 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      GUNSHYKILLER The first part of that is correct. Fact of the matter is that the new homebrewed non-conventional "water based" pomades are really oil based pomades that are water _soluble_. The difference is that a water based pomade will not require an non-polar emulsifier, but an oil based will if water solubility is desired

    • @nutellapancake2065
      @nutellapancake2065 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mufti Hossain I dunno whats up here, but my experience is much more mild. It was a medium-firm for me and still allowed some natural movement. And washing it out was a breeze too. I could get it out by just leaving some conditioner in for a few minutes. I have straight, thick hair, and use 4 scoops too. Weird.

    • @Art2D2
      @Art2D2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mufti Hossain
      "non-conventional water based pomades are really *oil based* pomades that are not water soluble."
      Oil-based? Sorry, but you're leading with a fallacious argument. Have you even read the ingredients list? The product is water based because the base of the product is water, it's the very first ingredient. And it's not meant to imply that it's water soluble at all. Simply that water is a large factor in its creation.
      I have fine hair btw and I have never had trouble getting the stuff out. It's likely you simply had a bad batch. But with that said, if it was that bad of an experience for you, I wouldn't recommend trying again. Just look for a new product. But seriously, do not spread misinformation as if they were facts. Just move on.

    • @mmhoss
      @mmhoss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DisturbedKoala I'm fairly certain it wasn't a bad batch. I initially thought so, but a buddy of mine later got black ship and I tried it out again and it was exactly the same. Also, water based and oil based don't exactly have corresponding/respective definitions. Oil based would only imply that the product begins as molecularly polar and/or lipids, which may be oils, waxes, etc. Basically something that wouldn't be water soluble. Water based just means that the product is affected by water due to an emulsifier, usually emulsifying wax, to be partially water-soluble.
      Also, you misquoted me. You added a "not", which changes what I stated entirely. Nice try

      +Dehnizhsz he won't do it so I will. Heaviest is Grim Grease heavy waterbased. Second is Strait of Malacca by Flagship, third is Blackship by flagship. For oil based: As far as actual GOOD heavies: First is Ominous Style Co. Heavy, second is probably Lockhart's Heavy. Third is Tremolo's Ace's High.

      Gattise they are two different types of hair products. O'Douds is an unorthodox water based pomade, Lockhart's Matte Clay is a clay. I have the Lockhart's and it's very very good! If you want the textured look, go for the clay. If you're looking for the dapper, slick look, O'Douds is the way to go.

      +Connor Gmehlin I think it really depends on your skin condition, some yes, some none at all. Suggest you try a small amount first. If you dont wanna buy a whole jar, try going to a barber that have a well known oil-based and ask the barber to style you with it. If you feel uncomfortable with it, like itchy and the sort, dont use.

      Crystal Lake is like a smooth, clean, more shiny water based pomade.
      O'Douds Water Based is really sticky and kind of dry and matte. I would say they are equally heavy.
      I use O'Douds most of the time because I style a messy, textured kind of side part, rather than a slick pomp.

  • @ABlexJMP
    @ABlexJMP 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm a fan of O'Douds Styling Treatment but the Multi-Purpose Pomade (new name of the same product) is a complete disappointment. For a water-based pomade, it is very oily and provides lots of shine. The hold is terrible, my hair basically fell off 15' after I put it on. I used 1.5 scoops because if I used more, my hair would look damn greasy and stick together. Would not recommend this thing at all.
