  • Today I'm sharing the first 50 days of the 100 Day Project where I create random things. I talk about the objects, the story and the design that continues throughout the concertina sketchbook I'm using. The pure delight and joy of creating this way has me looking forward to having this beautiful storytelling possibility when creating for 100 days.

    Thank you for letting us know how you place your objects on the paper. I have been struggling with this but the tracing paper will help a lot. I love that you push yourself to try new things. Thanks to you i have let go of the fear and am just drawing, painting and learning from my many mistakes. It is not about perfection but having fun. Thank you -you are beyond inspirational.

    I fell off the 100 day wagon, but can restart it at any time. No one is watching… other painting projects bumped me, but all fun. I am absolutely loving listening to your design and composition processes. The colour and shape flow, the value and size flow etc etc. the addition of the circles is pulling me to adding those to my little book. I use tracing paper all the time for other projects so your idea has just helped me yet again. I have been feeling stuck wondering where I will place the next object and since I am drawing directly into the book I have felt a bit hesitant and so put my project aside with sea shells sitting all over one page with no homes…. Now I can figure it out. Thanks. I am wondering HOW and where you learned how to use these composition and design elements? I follow Ian Roberts ( composition guru master love him!) and am always learning about composition. My weakest link. Thank you for sharing. I am excited for the next bit! 🎉

      Alison, I look at the 100 day project as a work in progress. Sometimes it can take minutes sometimes more but I always make it enjoyable no matter the time limit. I was always in art classes, went to the American Academy of Art but also continued studying and pushing myself to grow, learn and progress in many areas. Look for design elements here on youtube or find a book that breaks the principles down where you can understand them. It takes a lot of practice and being mindful in the pursuit of finding the style and design you like most. Now, the seashells, that would be a fun connecting element like my circles.

    • @alisonhendry2928

      @@kellyhoernig oooo I did not think of that… my shells can connect it all. I have always loved the sea and look forward to moving to Vancouver island next summer and being able to see it every day! My house will be covered in shells and beach pebbles…
      I will look for more books for design principals. Thank you I have a few on composition and love following Ian Roberts and have read his book over and over. I think it is a slow learning curve and you are right. I need to be more mindful of as I use my sketchbook. Shells shells shells… and acorns… they are all over my studio too! So many different kinds of oaks here in Houston.

    Hi Kelly! I have a couple of questions. I was wondering how you "removed" items, but now I know you did this fantastic tracing paper trick! So that question was answered. Also, how did you leave the white of "found and curated?" I just love the flow design of this sketchbook! I'm learning so much from your videos!

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The found & curated was done with a stencil and a wet toothbrush. Dampen the toothbrush, wipe on paper towel then go over the letters of the stencil to remove the paint, blot with paper towel. Let it dry in between before doing it again especially on cheaper paper. Hope this helps and I'll be sharing my new stencils Thursday.
