never had anyone in my life show me how to do this. After this video, I know what to do. And I can show my son. Thank you. EDIT: We did it ourselves finally, three days ago!
I have a 2023 2SS A10 6.2L. My manual recommends Mobil1. 0w40 full synth with DexosR. You may only use 5w30 Dexos2 if you can’t get the other and it warns only as a short term remedy until you can get the proper oil with DexosR. You can usually order it through your local parts store. Or online. I get mine from American Muscle online and with a filter and 12 quarts it runs about 155.00 with shipping. I change my oil every 4000 mile or 3 months. My Camaro likes to show her ass to everything else that’s stock and naturally aspirated.
Thorough and straight to the point. Want to start changing my own oil in my 22 1LE and I definitely feel confident after this video. Thanks a lot my man! That thing sounds mean too!
Nice video bro. Been a scatpack and hellcat owner and just switched over to a SS yesterday. I’m used to 7 quart oil changes. I couldn’t believe these things hold 10! Glad I came across ur video!
E85 is the cheapest bang for the buck. Combined with headers, and you can have a mean car for less than $1500 depending on what brand of parts you go with.
Overall a great Video. The only thing to add is to ALWAYS check that the old Oil Filter O-Ring is actually on the old Oil filter. Every so often these O-rings get stuck on the Rim and if you don't see it and install the new Filter over it, you will have a huge mess on your hands since it will not seal!
Excellent vid, very thorough, like that you took the time to explain everything that is needed including wrench size etc. before getting into the actual job. I have heard oil drain plug torque is 18-ft.-lbs. seems a little low but that's what I heard 👍🏽
Nice vid! Coincidently I changed my cars oil today. I let it get to 6%. Went with 5-30 dexos, since that’s what my manual asks for. Mine is 2017. Also I use regular ramps with 2*8 boards to clear the splitter. Definitely ghetto but it works!
Thanks for the video very helpful! Took my car to dealer and I slightly mark my oil filter and I checked it after I picked it up and found out they used the same one Better to DYI !
Good video. All common sense stuff. So stock camshaft and phaser? Sounds great. No catch can? Is that intake mani ported? And is that Clavo the Viper specialists?
I have a catch can, it’s on the driver side of the engine bay. And the intake manifold and throttle body is not ported, just aftermarket. No, this is a different Calvo.
I bought my Camaro SS in December, it already needs the oil change in this moment, my question is can I do it in another workshop or myself, or do I necessarily need to take it to the dealership to maintain the warranty?
No, you can do anything from home as long as you have the tools and equipment. Oil change requires the most basic set of tools. Personally, I do the grand majority of the work myself.
I use the Mobil 1 Supercar 0-W40 dexos it's not the ESP or what your using its a 2022 SS it's w.what is re.commended by GM $168 for 2-6 packs at O'Reilly.
I got headers with no cats. I can’t use the GM recommended esp formula one shown in the video? I just don’t wanna mess up engine I’m new to this car stuff idk much just trynna learn 🤦🏻♂️😂
I would say it’s recommended but not needed. I’ve done many oil changes and already have the “feel” for the okay amount of tightness. But refer to the manual if you want to play it safe.
@Saldalaperformance Thank you for responding. I was told it could be a faulty thermostat. I went ahead and reset the oil life again, and if the change oil warning comes back on again before it should or the car starts overheating, then I'll go ahead and change the thermostat.
@fruitloopdingus4643 I called the dealership and asked their opinion. That was what they said. I don't know if changing the thermostat fixed the issue or not because I traded the Camaro in for a truck. I had too many problems with it. From a faulty steering wheel that burned through the cluster of buttons on the right side to the oil engine life issue to the computer never resetting after a battery change. I drove the thing almost 500 miles, and it wouldn't reset, which kept me from passing inspection. I decided to just ditch the thing even though it had less than 7,500 miles on it.
They stay on with Allen headed studs. It clamps to the factory pinch welds. I’ve had one come off, so I recommend using lock tight when doing the initial install.
A few points: 1) LT1 equipped Camaros I think after a certain year, before 2019, had all their oil caps changed from 5w30 to 0w40. 2) the manual says you can use 5w30 if not being driven aggressively. But if you’re tracking the car to use 0w40. 3) some track guys are using even heavier oil due to increased track temps. I believe they are using 50 weight oil.
My car just dynoed 490whp 496 wtq . When I did the 9.3 60-130 I was spinning 2nd and on the 2-3 shift. When I attempted it again on the drag radials, my ethanol content was low. I should be in the low to mid 8s. Idk how you have a 5.2. Sounds like you didn’t time that right.
I don’t drive the car often, maybe 5000 miles a year or less. And I’ve changed the oil 3 times in that distance. So I believe I am good with that for my situation. For a daily driver, a maximum of 3000 miles between oil changes regardless of oil choice on e85. IMO
Damn, I should’ve added that in. It’s going to be different on an LT1 vs an SS because of the infotainment upgrade, but the principle is the same. Probably best if you just google it. Sorry bud.
@@Saldalaperformance - spot on. I use Race Ramps after I bought (very recent - Oct) my SS and they work perfectly. The "rubber" front deflectors bend just a bit and it's up and ready. AND - thank you for this video - super helpful for me as I get into the swing of things with this car!

The esp formula / dexos 2 product is for the cats. If you don’t run cats on your car, then you can run the oil of your choice.
Hey bud. Question. Can you use ramps instead of a jack for this job? (I don’t own a Camaro).
Yeah, just make sure the lip isn't hit. on the 1le or zl1 models, you'll have a slightly lower profile.

Yeah you can use the GM recommended fluid but it’s more expensive. I personally use 15-50 only from mobile one.
Curious if torque ranch is needed when tightening the drain plug?
I would say it’s recommended but not needed. I’ve done many oil changes and already have the “feel” for the okay amount of tightness. But refer to the manual if you want to play it safe.
it’s only needs torqued to 18 ft lbs so a torque wrench isn’t necessary but like he said above it’s recommended.
Yo bro what kind of jack is that ? not sure if I should get a low profile 2 or 3 ton is yours a low profile ?
This is the Daytona 3 ton low profile jack
I have a 2018 2SS. What would you recommend if the oil change display comes back on after only a couple of hundred miles since the last oil change?
Either there is an adjustment to the oil change interval. Yours might be set too low.
