    Multiple people have commented that the trip legs are displayed out of order after they import trips from RV Trip Wizard to their Garmin. I sent an email to Garmin to see if they had any answers. I'm also doing some testing on my own and will update my comment if I find a solution. If anyone finds a solution, please post it here to help others.
    Updates:
    1. One issue I've noticed is after importing a trip into my Garmin, the Garmin will display an "uploading" image. I've always turned the Garmin off/on to clear the image. Garmin Support said the image will remain displayed until the GPS is disconnected from the the computer.
    2. When importing a trip from Basecamp to the Garmin, the legs get displayed out of order. This is because each leg of a trip is imported as a separate trip, not a leg of a trip. There is an option in Basecamp to combine the legs into one trip, but I haven't been able to import the updated trip successfully.

      Another minor issue is the stops in RVTW are numbered and that is part of the name when importing into Garmin. The solution I found (and this mainly pertains to stops 1-9) is I went in and renamed all single digit stops by adding a 0, so 1 became 01 and so forth. Again, only a problem for me from 1-9 and right now I'm working on a four month trip with 90 stops. FYI, Garmin no longer supports BaseCamp.

Any suggestions for how to keep the order intact as we move from Trip Wizard to Garmin? Thank you for the detailed video. Very helpful as this is my first time exporting from TW to Garmin. Historically, I have trusted Garmins routes but have questioned their suggestions recently. For instance, going from Sundance to Cody WY, Garmin wants me to go all the way up to Billings then west/SW around to Cody. Two hundred miles longer than TW suggested route which is 90 West to 16 over the Big Horn Mtns.
    I called Garmin to get their take. They sat alongside me and Input all my Trailer/Vehicle information which lead them around the mountains but still not quite the same route mine suggested. They have a ticket going to get this reviewed.
    Outside of getting the Garmin to read a more preferred route of travel that it may not be otherwise offering, what are some other reasons to export from TW? I suspect no other reason but thought I’d check to see if I am missing something.

      Hey 9 to Free - First of all, thanks for the info. It may help out another RVer.
      When we plan our routes we sometimes plan months ahead and with multiple stops. So, it's easier for us just to enter the route with all the stops at one time so we don't have to enter each leg of the trip each time we move.

      @patcarden3028 We normally book 4 - 6 months out depending on where we're going. If we're going to a popular spot like Yellowstone or The Tetons, we will book a year in advance.
      We stayed at Timberland Acres RV Park in Trenton, ME when we visited Bar Harbor. We booked it about 6 months in advance. The Camp Ground is 'OK', there are a couple others in the area that looked pretty nice ( and expensive ). The Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA Holiday looked very nice from the road, but we didn't drive through the park. The Wild Acadia Camping Resort looked very nice also, but we did not drive through.
      We were there over Memorial Day weekend and our campground was about 3/4 full, which surprised me.
      One of our favorite spots for lobster rolls is The Travelin Lobster on Mt Desert Island just south of the KOA on RT 102
      Now you have me wanting more lobster (lobstah) rolls

    Well done, clear and concise! This may be a question for Garmin, but I thought I'd ask you first. I have a Garmin RV780. I created a trip in TW, exported the .GPX, imported the .GPX into BaseCamp, and sent that route to my device (Garmin RV780). I watched the download progress in BaseCamp and saw the green checkmark on the RV780 folder. I disconnected the RV780, and started it, and no Saved Trips appear in Trip Planner. Am I missing something or do I need to call Garmin? (I've imported .KML from Google MyMaps to BaseCamp, and have sent those to my Garmin Zumo XT, so I know the connection between BaseCamp and the GPS units is working).

    Dan...such an informative, detailed and simple to understand video. I just purchased the 795 and although it says to use a memory card to import a route, it just does not work. So, the information about Basecamp was very helpful, but for some reason when I import from RV Wizard to Basecamp, then export to the 795, my stops are out of order. I want to go from point A to point B, neither of which is my current location. I want to go from A to B, but include several stops/waypoints inbetween such as Loves (with propane refills), Walmarts, and laundromats. In RVTW, I organized these in route order so I am not hiphopping back and forth across towns.

      @randallcumbaa1647 Thanks for watching and glad the video was helpful. Without actually seeing your issue I probably won't be able to help, sorry. I've never had an issue with stops getting out of order. Are they just listed out of order, or does the route actually want to take you out of order? If they are just displayed out of order, you could do a quick check and create a trip with a few stops in you current location around town. Maybe just a 5 -10 mile trip to see if the route actually works.

    @timpittman7226 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Dan, I have been transferring routes from RVTW to my Garmin via Base Camp for several years. What I've learned is the route your Garmin GPS follows may not be the route you created in RVTW, though the stops will be the same. The reason for this is that when you transfer the route from RVTW to your GPS, your GPS creates its own route to the destination or stop complying with the parameters you have set in the GPS, say for example "avoid highways". Thus the routing displayed on the GPS will be different than the RVTW routing. But even if the parameters on the GPS and RVTW are the same they might not display the same because Garmin uses their own routing algorithm that Garmin created and licensed, and it will be different than the routing algorithm RVTW uses. However many times the routes will be the same, you must verify the routing to be sure.
    In practice I've stopped downloading routes from RVTW. I use RVTW to find the campgrounds and allow the GPS to guide me there.

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tim, thanks so much for the information. I found out the same as you. I noticed the Garmin route was sometimes different from the RVTW route. I figured it was due to different parameters like "avoid toll roads", or "fastest route". I used to download a whole trip with multiple stops into my Garmin at one time, I started getting away from that and just enter one leg at a time. Now, I'm slowly getting away from that and just entering my destination into the Garmin and verifying the route.

      @@RiversToRidgesRV I was going to ask if the Garmin changes the routes based on the data you programed into it about your specific rig or if you were just following trip wizard's route which would basically defeat the purpose of the Garmin RV GPS. • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @debandpete yes, you are correct. My Garmin will re-route my RVTW route based on the Garmin algorithms. I always compare the RVTW route to the Garmin route just to make sure they are at least similar, haven't had an issue yet. Lately I've just been entering my travel day stop into the Garmin the morning we leave just to see how that works. So, I'm basically using RVTW for planning purposes and the Garmin for the actual route.

      Thanks for the info. But if you prefer to use the Garmin route, why not just accept the changes that it makes to the trip when imported? I have read that Garmin GPS routes better than TripWizard GPS. The warning that you gave about being routed past a stop, uturn and then back happens when I route directly on the Garmin, so it is not due to importing a trip.

    I have the 1090 so I found this video quite interesting. Typically I do all of my planning in TW and before each travel day I will input the address of my next destination and then follow my Garmin GPS. I have found on occasion slight differences in routing between TW and Garmin so to be safe I follow where Garmin route me. My question is "when you input your TW planned trip route which device takes presidence over the safest routing. Does Garmin correct the TW route to safely get you to your destination or just route you where TW thinks you should go? I tend to believe Garmin has much more experience in routing but them maybe they both get their data from the same source, I don't know.

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @MonacoMike Honestly I don't import my TW routes into the Garmin much anymore. I use TW for all my planning and general routing. However, on travel day I use my Garmin and compare the Garmin route with the TW route just to make sure there are no major differences. Usually the routes are similar and if not, I'll do a closer comparison before traveling. My Garmin is aware of the height and length of my RV, so it should give me a safe route. Depending on your settings, Garmin and TW can use different algorithms to determine routes, that is why there may be differences at times.

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Phillip, we use TW mainly for planning our trips, we have 30 stops on our current trip and TW makes it very easy to plan and find campgrounds. TW will also let us know if there are any road conditions to be aware of, like low bridges. However, we usually just enter our next destination into our Garmin and follow the route Garmin gives us. We always plan ahead, so if Garmin tells us to go a different way than TW, I can always check before we start our travel day.
      Personally, I don't like trying to look at my phone while driving, too small for me. I like having the Garmin on my dash so it's easy to take a quick glance at it.

With that said, I still notice sometimes the route changes once it is loaded into the Garmin, not sure if it's due to settings being different from BaseCamp and the Garmin. But, I'm slowly getting away from importing routes to the Garmin via BaseCamp, recently I've been entering my destination into the Garmin by hand, then verify the routes match with my TripWizard routes.
      It seems like something in the importing process will confuse the Garmin and add some extra unwanted turns to the route on occasion, so I always double check before just blindly following what the Garmin says to do.

      @@RiversToRidgesRV Thank You Sir. Wasn't sure if it was me or the Garmin/RVTW program. I have been doing the same, plotting in Garmin as follows on RVTW. Thanks for all the insights. Have a super day, Larry

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lawrence, I think part of the problem could be different versions of maps. For example RVTW may know of a new road that the Garmin isn't aware of yet. But that shouldn't be a big issue until you get off the major highways. Another possibility could be RVTW may have different route settings that cause issues. For example, RVTW may be setup to avoid toll roads and Garmin may not.

      thanks for the information! I performed the export/import but found that I needed to right click on each segment ( I had 21 segments) and select recalculate. Most if not all of the segments showed "as the crow fly's" routing until recalculated. There were some issues with the translation to Garmin where it had me going in a HUGE loop instead of going straight through. For instance, I wanted to go "through" Valentine, AZ from East to West. Garmin took me to the edge of Valentine on the East side, then back tracked to take a more southerly route to get to the West side of Valentine, AZ and then continue the trip west. I took a couple of hours to straighten that out... You are absolutely right, check the route before you go! Garmin has a "follow the route" tool in the menu bar, that if set to X1000, you can check your segments for issues before downloading to the GPS. I was disappointed that none of my dates for stays from RV Trip Wizard came through, so the dates and time in the Garmin were all todays date and time. Thanks again for putting the TH-cam together!

      To be honest, I haven't been too happy with importing our routes. I started to only import one segment at a time and the route would still get messed up occasionally. I always double check my routes after importing.

    Great video, I've been searching for one to explain what I knew had to be a way to transfer the file to my GPS. I was able to transfer the file but it doesn't come up in Trip Planner but when I look at Saved all the stops are there. So I'll make sure I have a couple of back ups for the trip. I don't understand it and It may work. I have a 770RV.

    How do I remove the imported routes from the Garmin RV895?

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @jmasury6265 We have the RV890 so the steps may be slightly different. If we want to delete a route or leg, we just go into Trip Planner, then Saved Trips and select the route/leg we want to delete. Once a route/leg is selected, click the wrench icon (the 895 may have a different icon) then scroll down until you see Delete.
      Hope this helps

    Thanks for the info. I am going on Route 66 this summer and have broken the trip up into about 8 legs. I successfully downloaded the first leg into my garmin. I expected the file name to show up in my garmin 'Chicago to St. Louis'. It didn't. I just have the 4 legs. .... If I download all 8 legs into my garmin, how will they be differentiated or do I have to download one leg at at time ie. the night before we travel that leg. ... Any tips appreciated.

    • @RiversToRidgesRV
      @RiversToRidgesRV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Allan, I've entered a whole years worth of legs at one time without an issue. Each leg is identified via the starting/ending points so multiple legs should not be an issue. I started just entering one leg the night before our travel day, just to keep things clean. Also, I ALWAYS verify the route gets loaded correctly into my Garmin, mainly checking for strange or unwanted turns.
      Glad the video was able to help you

      @@RiversToRidgesRV Thanks Dan. One of my problems with this trip is that the route Trip Wizard takes is not the original Route 66. Because of that I'm using "EZ66 Guide for Travellers" by Jerry McClanahan to alter the Trip Wizard route to stay as true to the Route 66 as possible as hard as that is ie. pre and post 1930 routes. As a result I end up with lots of turns especially in small towns that were the heart of route 66. I'm hoping my 660 RV Garmin will help me with that. Anyway I wish I could find a Garmin program with route 66 installed. I have a "historic route 66" app on my phone but it is not letting me preview the route ahead of time. .... Just venting. Any tips welcome.

      @garytaylor4449 it's going to be hard to troubleshoot without actually seeing the issue, but lets try to narrow it down.
      1 Are you able to save the trip to your computer as a .gpx file?
      2 Is the Garmin connected to your computer?
      2 Are you able to import the trip to BaseCamp?
      3 When using BaseCamp, does your Garmin show up as a device?
      4 When you select "Send To Device", does anything appear on the Garmin? Like any icon that looks like something is happening?

      @garytaylor4449 It sounds like it imported correctly, I don't think you'll see the name of the trip, only the stops. You could try to import a simple 1 stop trip to see if that works, then maybe a 2 stop trip, just to verify everything is working. When I upload a trip with multiple stops, I see a list of all the stops in the Garmin, I don't see the name of the trip.

      I've had the same issue in the past. There are a couple of things you can try.
