One of my all time favorite bands. I first saw them at the Fillmore East on Nov. 7th, 1969 opening for Santana, a little more then 3 weeks before this show and was hooked for life. Saw them all over the NYC, LI area multi times. I'm the person who yells out "Gilded Splinters" on the "Performance" recording just before they start it. After Frampton left for more then just "creative differences", it was a slow decline. "Smokin" was their last great studio effort after Peter was gone. Seeing Steve wasting away from coke and booze was tragic. R.I.P. Steve and Greg. ROCK ON !!!!!
I saw them about 3 months later, at the Alexandria Roller Rink (Alexandria, VA). opening for Black Sabbath. I think it was one of the last shows of this tour, and just a couple of months before PERFORMANCE / ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE was recorded. I had just turned 16, and it was my first concert.
You can follow the development of their performance of this song on TH-cam. From a performance at a festival in Europe, to this, to the Reelin' In the Years video, to Live at the Fillmore.

Dude, if true, you're a legend. If untrue, then I guess you're not.
Haha that was you, fantastic. Anyone who’s listened the record knows “that guy” I uploaded this awhile back and forgot. Thanks for stopping by sir
Humble Pie were the new crew in town who could kick serious butt back in '69.
