That new bit is an answer to prayer! Just spent well over an hour cleaning out some background, which is typical. Looking forward to cutting back on that. Just ordered!!
Dang.....that is a game changer bit! It sure would have saved you a lot of time on some of the big signs you've made in the past. Eric better hide that bit when you move to Arkansas or Ryan will go wild and have all the tree trunks on the property carved with designs. LOVE how the sign turned out. It's AWESOME!!!
Beautiful..just got your base, just subbed lol .love router work so figured I'd try, first go went better then I thought I could do on scrap white oak at that lol..been milling white oak for days ..but if you see this, thank you, hope to get it like you my man ..
We sure appreciate the support, man! Carving really isn't all that hard. Be sure to send in a picture of some of your work for our sign carvers of the day
Nice work. I have both the large and small beer stencil. What color yellow are you using for the beer? I was going to purchase the 5 half pint sample cans and it comes with a yellow but it looks a bit light.
I'm not 100% sure. I can't look right now cuz we're in Utah. Shoot me an email ryan@makeawoodsign.com and when we get back in town I'll look at it for you
Awesome videos I noticed you said you prefer a flex trim router instead of a plunge router. Can one use a regular router and just buy a separate base? I tried using a plunge router years ago and damn it was so difficult….your videos re inspired me to try again.
Usually the large routers come with the plunge and fixes base so you can use either. We like the trim routers just because they have plenty of power to do whatever we need them to and they're smaller so easier to maneuver.
What a beautiful sign. Love the way that clear coat adds the finishing touch. I haven't tried painting parts of my signs, yet. Did you use gloss or semi-gloss paints?
I have a question for you guys. Why don’t you or should I use a bowl bit to clean up the scalloping in and around the art not the edges but everything else to make a smoother look. Btw just started following you guys, love the tutorials and the banter between you and your dad.
😂😂Thanks man! We have a lot of fun working together. You definitely could use a different bit for a smoother look, and maybe we'll do that in the future. We just like the rough texture look.
Thank you! I basically move the router in random circle patterns and it comes out like this. The bits you use will have a huge effect on how the background turns out as well
@ericrhoten looking to buy a router, would u recommend the Flex trim router or that new milwaukee 1/2 plunge router kit. Mostly want to carve out signd and stuff like yourself?
I don't care for using a plunge router for carving signs. It's too bulky and really not necessary. I love the FLEX trim router. It's super powerful, comfortable, the batteries last a long time and if you get it before the end of this year it's 100% lifetime warranty
Howdy Guys.... Nice video. I finally got around to getting myself a Carving Liner and a Profile bit. Ive been using just a 60° and just tilting the router for sharp edges and Dremel for higher detail. I was surprised when i heard you say "10 to 12 coats". Im curious, was that specifically just because you was going to do painting on top of it? When the painting was done, did you add additional coats of Clear ontop of the painting? Looking forward to the next videos. 😀
We sure do. You can check out all of our bits right here. makeawoodsign.com/collections/router-bits If you're just starting out, I recommend the profile, 60, and 90 degree. You can do %75 of all your carving with those three bits.
Nice work. You said you linked everything in the description but I didn’t see a link to the paint you were using to paint the beer mug. Also, do you have to seal the sign again after you paint it.?
Oh man, sorry about that. I don't have the link right now but just go on Amazon and look up One Shot paint and there's a ton of different colors on there. And no need for more sealer after the paint.
Heck yea ! Like the old addige measure twice cut once , spell twice carve once , also getting caught up in your work and missing a letter, then trying to fit it in . 😮
Great looking sign !! Naturally, the thought was planted .... now on my way to the frilg.....
😂😂Thanks Gary! Grab one for me too!
That new bit is an answer to prayer! Just spent well over an hour cleaning out some background, which is typical. Looking forward to cutting back on that. Just ordered!!
Right on, man! We appreciate the order. You're gonna LOVE this thing!
Man!!! That's a good-looking sign ! Well done, sir!
Thanks David!👊👊
Beautiful work brother 🏆
Thanks buddy!
Great job Ryan, that is one good looking sign!!
Thanks Mario!
Beautiful job Ryan!
Thanks Chris!

Beautiful,beautiful workmanship
Thanks Thomas!
well done Ryan
Thanks Burt!
Awesome sign
Thanks Patrick!
Ryan...that is a work of art. Greta job. have to add that new bit to my collection.
Thanks Emil! It's an awesome bit
That looks like a hoss of a bit!
Beautiful sign, Ryan....well done!
Thanks Frank!
Is a slower speed, better for carving letters,
No, we keep our routers full speed when carving. The only time we ever turn them down is if we're surfacing a board on the router sled

I'm curious where you find a big piece of cedar like that?
This is actually 2 pieces glued up together. Our buddy Rod brought them down from Washington
Great job Ryan, curious to know how big your board is?
Thanks Robert! I believe it's about 16"X30"
Nice 👍
What a beautiful sign. Love the way that clear coat adds the finishing touch. I haven't tried painting parts of my signs, yet. Did you use gloss or semi-gloss paints?
We almost always use One Shot automotive paint. It covers really well and it's exterior
where do find the tape you used to hold the template on......thanks!
Here you go
Tombow Adhesive Tape - amzn.to/47pdiMT

Great video. I haven't heard, how's the move going?
Slow going, but making progress
Woo Pig Sooiee!
Great video. I’ve recently started doing this. How did you do the texturing though?😊
Thank you!
I basically move the router in random circle patterns and it comes out like this.

Top job ryan and love the subject matter lol
Thank you buddy ❤
Wow Carving 👍
Thank you

@@oldave100thank you for your reply, I just picked up the flex and ordering your base plate and blades
Where can I get the plate you’re using
Here's a link to our base plates 👍👍

Have you guys tried airbrushing instead of painting?
I've tried it. man it's tough! I really want to get good at it but dang!
Is the new bit a 1/4” shank?
Yeah, just like the others (except the surfacing bit) it's 1/4"
Nice job and what a hunk of cedar!
I LOVE this stuff!! Wait till you see what we did with the rest of it! That video will come out late November

The more coats, the better the finish looks in my opinion. But it was mainly for the painting. There's no need for another coat after the paint
Nice job Ryan im going to check out that new bit I just finished a large sign this would have been alot of help
Right on man. It's a HUGE benefit
Traduire en Francais.Mercie 😊
I'm sorry we don't know how to do that
This is gorgeous! Where did y’all get this beautiful thin piece of cedar??
Thanks buddy! That's from a bunch of cedar our friends brought us. I can't remember where they got it.
Great sign and that bit is awesome!
Thanks Bill!
Great job! I like the new bit.
Thanks Pam!
nice work and great video. hey do you offer a set of bits that you recommend thanks

Gotta admit, that sign makes me thirsty!

I'm sold on this bit already.
Dude, it's awesome!

Thanks Dan!
Beautiful
Thanks Mike!
👍👍👍.Thanks Ryan
Anytime, buddy!
I love using cedar
Same here, buddy!
Nice work
Thanks Ron!
Nice job
Thanks buddy!
You guys ever misspell something on a sign? Seems like something I would do before realizing it halfway through.😅
😂😂😂 Oh yeah. More than once! But, never on a really big sign. There's ways to fix that, but man it sucks
I have, and I didn't catch it till I delivered it,but she took anyway, she said it would be a reminder that we're not perfect.
Heck yea ! Like the old addige measure twice cut once , spell twice carve once , also getting caught up in your work and missing a letter, then trying to fit it in . 😮
Instead of painting ,and getting drips ,try posca paint pens
We'll give those a shot!
❤
👍👍👍
Love your videos! I'll have to look up that Bible verse on your hand.
Thanks John! It's a good one 👍👍
Nice 👍❤
Well I'm not going to be making any signs for any drunken beer sots, 😉 But the sign came out really good!
😂😂😂 Just out of curiosity, what's a "Sot" ?
@@oldave100 It's an old word meaning "a habitual drunk."
I work with the homeless and we have plenty of them around! 🤣🤣
@@zitternden 😂😂 ok that makes sense
👍👍👍👍🍺😎

Beautiful
