This is my latest favorite sign you have made sir. I really appreciate the way you explain what you're doing and why. I will be ordering one of these new stencils.
I don’t have a band saw but use my scroll saw to do the same thing on the edges. It adds a lot vs just always square or rectangular. Just ordered this stencil, can’t wait.
The stain will definitely attack the spray and make it bleed. You can put a couple coats of finish on it, the sand the sign and that will leave a clear coat over everything that is carved and then stain. We've done that in the past.
Howdy Mr. Ryan... I've been doing lots of sign carving, especially lately. It all started with watching you guys a little over a year ago when I made my daughter a 4 tier plaque for being in the Texas Army National Guard...perhaps yall remember that (yall showed it on SCOTM bout a year ago). Anyways...So, I've got a year of practice under my belt now 😊 and I'm doing much more intricate sign carving now. My question to you is.... I notice you guys don't do any finish sanding between coats of finish. Why is that? Especially after that very first finish coat? Though my boards are sanded smooth prior to and after carving, when I spray (using the exact spray finish yall use), it pops the grain. I come back with a very light sanding, just kissing it with some 220 to knock down the grain...Then 2nd coat, let dry, then another soft sanding, 3rd coat. When that dries, I typically use 0000 steel wool to buff it. Clean, then I do a 4th coat. Let dry. Buff again. Clean. Then 5th coat. But this time, after it dries, I kiss it with some 800. Clean. Then the final coat I use Howard's Bees wax + Orange Oil...dry a bit then wipe off the excess. I don't see that yall do any of this stuff at all. Or do yall do that off camera? I'm a woodworker (40 years) so maybe it's just a habit for me??? Am I over doing it?
We do a light sand between coats, but not quite as much as you do. We just don't generally film that for time purposes. We should do a video on it though.
Good verse written on your hand!

You guys talk about blue pine at Home Depot. Is it sold under any other name? Can't find it in my hometown store. Love the new surge in sign carvings.
It's actually shiplap or tongue and groove. Check in the milling area.
That looks AWESOME!
Thanks Todd!
Nice job...🤘🤘🤘
Thanks DanO!
I struggle with painting also. Question is after you spray it can you stain the wood or will bleed into the spray paint.
The stain will definitely attack the spray and make it bleed. You can put a couple coats of finish on it, the sand the sign and that will leave a clear coat over everything that is carved and then stain. We've done that in the past.
Sweet!
Very cool I’m getting one. What would you charge for this sign.
Thanks Ron! I'd probably charge about $45
I lIKE IT !! Some more eye candy 🥰
Me or the sign?😂😂😂
Take your pick 😀@@oldave100

Watch out Erin Ryan’s after your top spot lol☝🏼 ❤
Did you guys do a rooted in christ video?
I believe that was an exclusive video for members.
It's almost like you're the grandson and son of Master sign carvers!😂
😂😂Almost...
