Good work. I put painters tape on the whole board first, then use spray adhesive on paper template. When done just pull tape off. It makes clean up easier.
Even better is to get a roll of self-adhesive transparent protecting film. It does the same job as painters' tape, but you get a smoother surface with no chance of unevenness.
Thankful to have found someone who knows how to make videos on woodworking without talking about the process. I don't know many people who need to hear someone ramble on about every single thought they have.... I like how you just show every step visually even putting on your gloves and safety gear... great editing makes for great videos.
Awesome job! I love your work, but one quick suggestion, if you spray paint the letters with the paper still glued on then you'll only have to sand it once...thanks for the video!
I like what you did. It has been a long time since I made a sign. It's time. I have some spare cedar in the shop and a small router. What I could use is a small assortment of round nosed carbide bits. Suggestion about getting the paper and the paint off is to use a scraper. I had one of those cheap toolbox saw blades that I cut into a few different shapes and sizes. I use a flat file to sharpen the edges, then go to it. Back in the 60s I sharpened downhill ski edges with a file. The sharp square edge of the scraper can be very effective at removing all kinds of things. Works like a plane only better for some things. No need to sand when you're done. Smooth. A trick I used to use to make the signs look a bit like driftwood or weathered wood was to use a heavy duty wire brush to brush away the softer parts of the woodgrain. Very effective. Thanks for posting.
Here is a tip for you, instead of scraping the stencil off with the hand plane, lightly spray mineral spirits on it, wait 10 minutes, and it will peel right off with ease. I use it all the time when working on the scroll saw! Nice video!
Stran Dyck blue painters tape, then spray adhesive stencil onto blue tape. After your done routing just remove blue tape. The blue tape and left over stencil will easily peel off.
I'm used to larger, corded routers th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.
I can remember in High School shop class making signs. and instead of using paint to paint the inside of the letters we used touch to burn the inside of the letters then sanded off the burnt part on the surface of the sign.
Very nice video and I loved the music. I was a professional wood worker, ie Master Carpenter, Cabinet Maker for 47 years. You do impress me. Thank you for using the old time skills. Keep it up.
When you route around a board do the ends 1st. That way it doesn't splinter when you do the sides. I would also infest in an small planer to take the paint off after painting the letters.
Instead print in reverse and tape to wood then use Acetone on rag, not sloppy wet but good and moist and wipe on the paper and the design will transfer to the wood. It does a nice job. Also works on Sand blast resist stencil.
I've tried power carving myself and carbon paper works great. Just tape it on, trace it, and you can carve it out based on that. It beats using glue which I hate to use.
You did a great job. Try and think out your steps a little better in the future. Paint the letters in before you remove our paper or if you remove the paper already, spray with shellac before painting the letters. Then simply plane off the excess overspray. Just a helpful hint.
Use carbon paper to transfer the design next time. Itll save you time and the energy involved with trying to plane the paper off of the project, and it keeps the paper from getting in the way of your sight after you have started using the router. Just a thought.
Nicely done, Sir! I have been carving for a while, but I just put up my first video last week, filming and carving sure is a different process. Keep up the good work.
Ray The 5TH Cut , hey Ray try cutting it in steps, start very shallow and work your way down to desired depth in increments. It solved my run away router troubles!
Dumb question but how in the hell do you see what you're doing? Honestly. I've tried this and all I get is a face full of sawdust and a worm track on the wood. :(
Great video. Any suggestions or advice if we wanted to either have the color, other than black, because I have two grandchildren I wanted to make a bedroom sign for Christmas and I wanted to either have the sign background pink and blue or perhaps it was better if the lettering was that color. I thought to ask others who might have tried this already. Previously I used the Milescraft way and that was fine, but it was a fixed size and limited with no clip art, etc.
Nice sign. I have made several of these. For me, the font Comic Sans MS works the best for router movement. You will need to play with the font sizing increasing it from pts to inches or mm.
Friendly suggestion ... kindly use the guide bush to get finishing result... but for this you have to use templet instead of printed paper... but again and again making templet for the new new spelling can be too costly.... so its easy solution is ,,, make only 26 alphabets seperately .{ one time investment } and using the glue sticking tape , paste it temporarily on the working area as a templet by arranging your required spelling...and just do it man ... hope you will like this idea...
hello i wish i could be able to inform some link to buy these cutters and which models to use and if u can post here the pictures of the cutters in the comment. thanks brasil
If you flip that paper on to the wood, soak the paper lightly with acetone it will print on to the wood the just cut that out clean up will be quick n easy
Marsh Ink is better, but expensive. You were using the 2x primer and paint mix, the PRIMER only is just as good as the Marsh ink and almost half the price.
When your ready to remove the paper just dampen with solvent wait a minute and it will lift right off then wipe the wood with a cloth using a small bit of solvent. Beats all the work with the plane and leaves a cleaner surface
Good work. I put painters tape on the whole board first, then use spray adhesive on paper template. When done just pull tape off. It makes clean up easier.
That's a great tip
Awesome tip thankyou
I am too cheap to use painters tape like that lol

The music is awful though!
@@cindibrinkman4433 I however, really liked the music ~
That music is awesome . I wanna hear more of it future videos
Awesome job! I love your work, but one quick suggestion, if you spray paint the letters with the paper still glued on then you'll only have to sand it once...thanks for the video!
Yeah pretty smart thanks for this comment

Great idea! I've also found, using the heat gun helps peel it up. Thanks for watching!
Stran Dyck use an electric sander much quicker.
great job

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it hard to carve neat letters..
Yeah I'm still trying to get my handwriting pretty at 30 years old

Good to see a young guy using his hands for something other than playing with a cellphone; nice work on the sign ;)
Or video games
Damn man! Not only satisfying but also calming. Great ideas by the way!
The music was very soothing, excellent video. Thank you for sharing. Wade Out. God save the Republic...
Nice job! I love a project that is 100% handmade and goes beyond minimum requirements. Keep up the great work!
The chill vibes in this video are off the chart. Amazing video man.
Have to admit, background music is quite relaxing 😂
I can remember in High School shop class making signs. and instead of using paint to paint the inside of the letters we used touch to burn the inside of the letters then sanded off the burnt part on the surface of the sign.
quick tip. use masking tape and glue the paper straight to the tape so you can peel it off way easier
🤯why have I never thought of this or heard of this. THANK YOU!
Thanks for the idea! That's going to save me a lot of time and trouble!
Fantastic! Any Dad should be happy to have a sign like this but especually the son that invested the time to make it for him.
Very nice video and I loved the music. I was a professional wood worker, ie Master Carpenter, Cabinet Maker for 47 years. You do impress me. Thank you for using the old time skills. Keep it up.
Good job! Keep up the good work and learning along the way. I'm sure your dad is proud of you!
Sit back and watch this relaxing and straight forward video. Camera work shows the way. Nice job! Ab
Back in the 70s we made these in woodshop. But we torched the letters and then ran it through a planner. I still have the one I made.
Cool sign! Thank you for showing your techniques. I like the music you chose; so many videos have jarring, inappropriate rock music. Excellent!
cutting to finished size after carving! great idea for more stability options.
I'm new to woodworking. I must say, Well done, young man.
When you route around a board do the ends 1st. That way it doesn't splinter when you do the sides. I would also infest in an small planer to take the paint off after painting the letters.
Im makeing one of these in a class tomorrow! Awesome video and it gave me an idea of what to expect for tomorrow!
Quick tip: When using any spray can varnish etc; move your arm not your wrist. Makes for a more even coat. Well done on your projects.
Great job, always wondered how they got the letters so dark like that 👍
Instead print in reverse and tape to wood then use Acetone on rag, not sloppy wet but good and moist and wipe on the paper and the design will transfer to the wood. It does a nice job. Also works on Sand blast resist stencil.
Great idea I was using graphite or graphite paper lol
no tips or suggestions here.enjoyed n learned to torch the wood, and loved the music.you are ahead of your time.genius tune.
Dude that is so cool !!! You have some great tips and tutorials man !! I really appreciate your generosity with them !! Thank You!!
I've tried power carving myself and carbon paper works great. Just tape it on, trace it, and you can carve it out based on that. It beats using glue which I hate to use.

Maravilloso trabajo Gracias por compartir tus vídeos bendiciones para usted saludos dé Puebla 🔥 México
Thank you for the music! Very relaxing
Signs are a fun project. I've got a couple more to make. I generally use the exact same process.
Thanks for watching! This was a fun project.
Suddenly dying to see Mr. Miyagi prune a bonzai tree! Great video tho very cool
Nicely done, Sir! I have been carving for a while, but I just put up my first video last week, filming and carving sure is a different process. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video! No need for any letter templates to make a great sign!!
You a true craftsman, I've try & couldn't do it, the trim router kept running away from me. Thanks for sharing.
Ray The 5TH Cut , hey Ray try cutting it in steps, start very shallow and work your way down to desired depth in increments. It solved my run away router troubles!
Good stuff man! Love the camera work!
The music! 😬 Nice vid. Would rather have heard you talking. 😁. Nice job on the sign. 😎
Love the music, and what you did of course :)
Great Idea with the adhesive paper template. OMG is that going to save me a lot of work
Nice job! Very instructive too! Going to subscribe! Thanks!
Very enjoyable ,like the attention to the details
Im gonna make some signs for the house! Just curious whats the beat kind of bit for this kind of engraving?
Looks like a spiral up cut router bit.
Nice and clean Job. Love it!
Nice music. Good choice for this type of job.
what kind of router bit did you use to make the sign.
@J Rod he asked about about the bit
For an application like that you'd want to use a spiral upcut bit... in my opinion.
Your work ads to my knowledge, thank you for taking the time. Loved the music.
Your using a great router. My favorite. Great video my friend
So relaxing. Nice work.
Thanks for sharing. And the music was inspired.🦊
I have the Bosch router also. Best one I’ve ever had
Nice video. Thanks. But the only real question about hot melt glue is: when will it disintegrate? I wouldn't use it.
nice job...good for beginners who dont have all the fancy bells and whistles
Dumb question but how in the hell do you see what you're doing? Honestly. I've tried this and all I get is a face full of sawdust and a worm track on the wood. :(
Nice video, BTW What router bit did you use to do this?
Great video. Comic Sans is the best font...the only font really. It should be used in the business world for resumes and whitepapers exclusively.
Great piece! Nice work, I'll try this technique definitely
I for some reason love the music. What is it?
Friendly suggestion ...

Love the background music!
Great video, where did you the paper decal from with the words on them ??
hello i wish i could be able to inform some link to buy these cutters and which models to use and if u can post here the pictures of the cutters in the comment. thanks brasil

Great background music btw
Very nice work!!!
What type of bit for the letter carving? Sorry If already answered
I’m new making wood signs. What type of router do I use to make wood signs?
Looks good, nice job.
How did you make the paper templates ???
I've been doing this for a long time as a hobby.
Nice sign!!! I hate the background music it’s putting me to sleep!!!! I definitely play some upbeat rock music while working in the garage
BEAST MODE LIFE no, I like the peaceful music background. Great video, thanks.

Very nice video...learning myself too. music artist is? peaceful and tranquil...THANK YOU
If you flip that paper on to the wood, soak the paper lightly with acetone it will print on to the wood the just cut that out clean up will be quick n easy
great video .just to the point
You l00k like you're heading into battle. Nice job.
Do you do custom orders for people?
Marsh Ink is better, but expensive. You were using the 2x primer and paint mix, the PRIMER only is just as good as the Marsh ink and almost half the price.
Great vid...what paper did u use to draw on? What bit did u use for letters? Im a novice at woodworking. Need all the knowledge i can get.
He used an up spiral bit. Looks like regular Xerox paper.
What router bit did you use to cutout letters?
Do you still take order for rottes sines
Great job... Love the video. What was the music playing in the background?
cyclops1971 Thanks! Music is by Kevin Macleod, I have some music info in the description. Thanks for watching!
Nicely done.
When your ready to remove the paper just dampen with solvent wait a minute and it will lift right off then wipe the wood with a cloth using a small bit of solvent. Beats all the work with the plane and leaves a cleaner surface
Nice job Grasshopper
Doubt he got the reference. I prolly wouldn't have either if my mom hadn't been a fan of the original Kung-Fu.
Dennis Andrews I
Really good job!
What is the tool you used to smooth out beforeelectric sander?
Good job man nice music too!!
