    Looks like a well built, well featured pedal. Very nice, but after checking the price I see that the new Boss ME-90 is significantly cheaper. In fact, it's still cheaper even if you add the Boss Bluetooth upgrade that gives wireless audio streaming and the ability to add touchscreen control via your phone. The Boss ME-90 can run for 6 hours on just 4 AA batteries too, so I'm sort of wondering why I would choose this over the Boss?

      @@tonymckenzieofficial The suspense is KILLING me, T-Mac! I enjoy listening to your voice-I backpacked through Europe 32 years ago, starting in England. It was the 50th anniversary of The Battle Of Britain, and I was staying at a friend’s place in Harrow. It was amazing to see a big Lancaster, a Hurricane and a Spitfire flying around London while I was sitting near Byron’s tomb-🤷🏻‍♂️-at Harrow-on-the-Hill while the kids were being dropped off for school. I could’ve listened to those kids talking with their parents for a whole day, they were all bright and spoke with great clarity in a dialect/accent that made them sound…more intelligent-to my Canadian ears. Do you sell any merchandise? As I mentioned, that’s one cool cap.

      @frufru0071 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jimsuber6784: it’s amazing, isn’t it? Can you imagine how many different pedals it would take to get the same results as you could most likely squeeze out of the NU>X?! I’d rather have three pedals and an old Marshall OR Fender amp…w/a preamp control!

  • @frufru0071
    @frufru0071 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    That’s quite an impressive Tele you’re playing at the video’s end, Tony. Very interesting multi-FX unit, and a review that was so in depth…Barbara Walters would have been impressed, (if she was still "with us" & if she was interested in electric guitars). What an incredible leap forward the electronics of the electric guitar have made in the 30 years since a spinal cord injury put an end to my aspirations of becoming the next great (unknown & unheard of) guitarist! Great stuff and great baseball cap, thanks Tony.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made the Tele from Warmoth and Fender parts... yes it IS all moving forwards and so easy to poo pooh the efforts of the digital community. I'm really a tube amp guy myself and I like the tube amps for the 'feel' of the amp, but the NU>X stuff is pretty good, we just plugged in and played and what you hear is exactly how it sounds... Yes health issues can be very hard work - only when we get there do we realize the actual aggro... I have also been through the mill re health but I always try and continue as best I can and I'm sure you will too! So best of with the health stuff... and hey thanks for watching.

      @@tonymckenzieofficial I’ve been living for 31 years as a quadriplegic, so I put my Kramer, Ibanez & American Strat into their cases and acquired a homemade slide guitar. Like the NU>X effects, and your thoughts about it as opposed to a JCM 800 with both cabinets and tubes that are kinda hot to the touch, there’s no shortage of things to try, to look forward to. Well, I look forward to seeing my wife as soon as I wake up, and I love turning my 1-to-5 watt amplifier all the way up with a little bit of delay & chorus. I have to use a slide, but I can still play "Beck’s Bolero"! Life is GOOD, Tony. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I would have knocked off a point for not having a stereo return on the send. That's particularly useful when the send and return is positioned after the amp in the signal flow and you want to add stereo time-based effects.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point... I don't really see many devices with stereo send return... but fair enough for sure.... thanks for watching.

    • @Garflips
      @Garflips ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonymckenzieofficial stereo RETURN is the important factor. The Boss IR-200 & GT1000 Core have it as well as most pedal boards in the $500 plus range. The Trident is in the status quo in this regard but I would have hoped they would have upped the game by including a stereo return. The stereo output nature of the Trident is a bit questionable because of the labeling and lack of any demonstration so far of stereo effects, for example ping pong delay. NUX labels the outputs 1 and 2 and calls that two output scenario "Studio Direct." Rumor has it that the stereo effects will be improved and it will become more obvious with the next firmware. Regardless of the aforementioned I do believe it is a solid product as you have concluded.

    Thorough review of Nux Trident, thanks and nice demo at the end! Was looking at Cerberus but now I'd love one of these instead. The looper makes this even more versatile though NUX says it's 30 seconds while retailers say 60 seconds, which seems preferable. Costs $600CAD in Canada so sadly it's on my wish list but not my shopping list. Since my cheaper, tiny Quilter Superblock UK with reverb still does most of what I need these days. Or the Bias FX2 on my PC which a rarely use anymore.

    This video is crazy in depth, amazing stuff! I have the Cerberus and I want to replace it with the Trident... But supposedly the Cerberus has had an update which makes it even better for live use. Now I'm left wondering if I'd be better off just having both units, one for the more direct out and in-ear monitor gigs and the other for the more amp on stage type of gig.

Este equipo es un acierto total y puede ofrecer al musico lo que necesita si no es demasiado exigente, para salir de gira. Me encanta.

Thanks you ;-)

      If/when I get one. There are issues from what I see from the off. I am reviewing a Headrush CORE presently, that is TBH half the price and I really wonder why the Fender unit is £1600 or thereabouts - double the price... it will be interesting but I suppose 3 extra loops... (???). I watched some of the 'sales reviews' and the very close 'same day' hype promotion from ALL of the mobs that got free ones ;-) and I don't know, it was hard to find one of those that showed much really... except some of it was showing screen issues... same old same old as some of the other pieces of gear out there are sort of similar by looks and interesting that the 'other' very similar machine dropped its price to match? I wonder if its made by people other than Fender? We certainly will see when I get one.... thanks.

    Curious about your sound demo signal chain, are the sounds we are hearing directly out of the Trident? ...or are the sounds being tweaked in your studio after the Trident? They did sound pretty good to me.
    As for gigs, aside from maybe minor tweaks if you need to make major changes to your settings in the middle of a gig you might consider getting a little more prepared before the gig and have your settings ready... to come off as at least a little bit professional. LOL.
    I was considering the Tonex pedal but with the amount of "used/demo" ones for sale I take it as an indication that they're not that great sounding. Then I started researching this NUX Trident, you declined to say if the are decent sounding models/IR's of the represented amps/cabs...and I watched a A/B/C review/comparison of the Trident, a Boss modeling processor and the real amp...both modelers sounded like crap not even close to the real amp but maybe that was the guy's fault.
    I'm still up in the air whether to bite the bullet and buy one of either or not but was leaning towards the Trident. Going to wait and see if some more unsponsored honest opinion/direct demo reviews show up. Even TH-cam alters the sound, trying one in person myself is the way to go but unfortunately not an option for me as the one local music store doesn't carry NUX products.

    • @tonymckenzieofficial
      @tonymckenzieofficial  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trident went direct to desk aithout jiggery pokery. Ha I did a demo of the Tonex pedal, and to be honest, I never (easily) got past even installing the software. There were bugs and other stuff, and as the Tonex does really depend on that licensing and software that unit was not IMO very good or easy to use. The Trident is far superior in these respects and simple to use too. The sounds on this video are absolutely as is from the unit right in to the desk. I have tried/used a number of NUX pieces and they honestly (its not me selling!) they offer a very good solution for a good price. If you can, try one, but if not, trust me that I won't say something is good if it is not, and the Trident was pretty cool realy. I'm surrounded by over 20 amps here in my little studio (maybe not so little :) but the Trident does sound OK to me. Thanks for the post - very interesting and thanks for watching.

      I have not used the MG-30 myself so can't really comment on that unit. But I did like this one. And I noticed that the casing is cast material that makes this a very robust device - in fact cast just the same as the Fender Tone Master Pro at £1650 cost! See things like that are showing IMO that NUX really do put in that 'extra' thing or two that many would generally see, but I noticed that immediately. It sounds good to me too! Is it just a question of turning on the reverb and the knobs will react as reverb parameters, and vice versa for the delay? Hope that makes sense. Hi Tony, thanks for this review, I had an NUX Cerberus and it was v good, apart from the muddy distortion. We do however need to hear more of the tones while playing chords. Like the BluGuitar AMP1 review you did, your demo was all lead playing which 1) most of us can't do and 2) any old distortion pedal and a delay will sound good. For me a pedal/amp that can give a good clean tone and a crunchy main tone is the key. The digital FXs ( Chorus, Vibe, delays), and lead boost can always be added to a good amp, but a shitty crunch can't be dialled out. Show us the core tones Tony !

      No... tell me WHICH Boss... some really do NOT have 5 years warranty. MANY have no power switch, MANY have only 1/8 mm midi, I could go on a little about boss.. MANY have an 'old' USB port substantially out of date... No it's not that I somehow dislike Boss - its actually the opposite, and I'll let you in to a secret... I STILL have the GT1000CORE here. So what happened with the GT1000? For me it was not a good device - true it was very early on, but the one I reviewed, honestly, three of us never got a good sound from it and at £800 or thereabouts at the time that was not a good show. On the so called 'bias' if you're a long standing viewer, you will know I don't do that. For this NU>X unit, it had all the things I criticize (ON VERY MANY effects pedals) actually IMO fixed and as they should be! I have to say I was surprised. It is almost like NU>X read my mind before I reviewed the Trident and fixed each thing accordingly - but that was not the case, they just made a great pedal as it should be made.
      Clearly, check my other reviews on these types of pedals and I mention the same problems on many devices by different makers and far be it than 'just' Boss - that assumption is factually incorrect. I could spend half a day going through all my reviews to prove a point, but sadly I really don't have the time or inclination. I have absolutely no reason to be biased for or against any unit or brand I review. I have tried HARD to find problems, for example, with the Marshall Studio amps in my reviews... I found basically little or nothing wrong - literally, whereas the Friedman amp I reviewed was really not even saleable and was returned. You have to be fair to the equipment whatever the brand unless its warranted. If its great then I say so. If its terrible I say so. The 'free' aspect in the scheme of things you is not relevant. I take a week to create a video review? At about 40 hours overall that would equate to about £9.00 per hour. No sir, I really do NOT work for £9.00 per hour and that would be a futile waste of my time. I review new and up to date equipment (almost any brand) because it's new and my viewers WANT to see it reviewed properly, rather than many sales videos - they serve their purpose, but my reviews are as you know, very different. I hope it helps you to understand that my integrity should not really be questioned and you could check the reviews since 2009 each and every one truthful. Thanks.

      @@tonymckenzieofficial it was your review of the boss me90 that mentioned 5 year guarantee. So again I ask you, considering your main gripe against the boss was petty stuff like lack of USB and psu. And for a unit that is substantially cheaper than this nux. Do you think your score of 9 for this nux vs 6 for the boss me90 was not suffering from unconscious bias?
