    Hi All,
What is CST Level 2 - Remote Position and Short Term Monthly?
Also, I got an assessment link where I have to answer 12 questions in 20 minutes. What type of questions will they ask in the online assessment?

Stumbled upon the channel for luggage tips and stayed for the UN career tips. This is a goldmine of information and thanks for sharing.
Quick question: Would I have a bigger advantage if I apply to the country that I'm native in but has limited professional experience in the finance and accounting (recent graduate)? For context, I'm a Filipino-born Canadian citizen and I want to apply for jobs in duty stations A or E in the Philippines with a long-term goal in getting to an H station.

I lived in Manila, so I know WPRO well and other UN agencies there. It might be easier for you to get a G job as a local. The problem is, to go from G local to P international is really hard. I know a girl that did it, but she went from G to local P (national professional) and then, to P2 in Kenya. If you have a BA or Master, you might be better to apply for a P2 in a country with competition, then a G post locally. You can do both at the same time.

@@MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller Thanks! That seems doable for now as a new grad. I don't have a BA nor a Master as mine is BBA Finance but if it helps to get a P or P2 contract, then I might do it in the next 2-3 years. I can't apply for a G position in the Philippines as I only have a Canadian passport, will explore other options.

Hi Mario for all this information, it is really important to me as I would like to apply for a position in the UN. I would like to ask you something. Do you happen to know if I can apply, if I am in the USA, working with another company with a work permit (I am from Colombia), the company has started the Green Card process on my behalf, and I am just waiting to hear back from the agencies for a response. I have a relevant background and a bachelor's degree from my home country. Do you think I may have a chance?

Hello, every organizations and posts have its own setup for staff. Like Beirut, you would have an apartment and buy your own food, but 100 km away at UNFIL, you would live in a compound and have food included. You need to research the organization and the benefits because they are different from one organization or level to the next.

    Hi Mario,
Thank you for your informative content. I was recently added to FAO consultancy roster for 3 years and awaiting project commencement.
However, an officer vacancy has become available in FAO HQ and it turns out the hiring manager is long time Linkedin connection with me. How do you suggest to tackle the application?
Is it wise to reach out to the hiring manager on linkedin, or just highlight my status as FAO rostered consultant in my cover letter only?

      Hello,
Firstly, congratulations on being added to the FAO consultancy roster.
Regarding the officer vacancy at FAO HQ, it's common enough for old staff to know the hiring manager is a long-time LinkedIn connection of yours. My suggestion would be to definitely reach out to them. A simple message like, "Hi, I noticed the vacancy for position in your department and believe it aligns well with my expertise. I've [either 'already applied' or 'am considering applying']. I wanted to let you know of my interest. Looking forward to the possibility of contributing to the team." This approach is direct, professional, and doesn't presume any favours and will not put him in trouble if people learned that you have emailed him before the interview etc...
Additionally, highlighting your status as an FAO rostered consultant in your cover letter is a good idea. It emphasizes that, if he wanted, he could just pulled you from the rostered "interview" you and then, give you the job.

If you are rostered, that means that you are doing good in the tests. Maybe you should try entering at P2 level or temp post.

Hi sir, assuming you secured a temporary post for 6 months, can you apply for a permanent post while serving your temporary post? Will there be any conflict?

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  2 ปีที่แล้ว

No problem at all. I have seen staff getting two jobs at the same time, dropping one or reporting for duty to the first job and leaving it after 4 months to take the second job because it was a better post. Of course, if it was a year contract and you got relocation money, you will have to fund it. Not a problem for a temporary 6 months post.
