BUT, if you use code FOOLISH on SeatGeek (sg.app.link/FOOLISH ), I might able to hire a new intern, preferably a cute art major.
A trend I've noticed is that, at least in OOTP 19, is that the trends start to increase near exponentially in terms of offense a few years down the line. Miguel Sano struck out 269 times in the 2023 season to break his own record for the 3rd consecutive year. That isn't even close to today's record.
How about a left/right starter who takes two spots in the rotation to go after Ryan? (or acting as a starter every day but only going 2+ innings, switching hands on different days. 12 innings per 5 games vs. Ryan going 9 every 4 in his Angel days, combined with batters taking more strikeouts in exchange for more home runs. He retires holding the most home runs allowed by a left handed pitcher AND the record for most home runs allowed by a right hander. (I mean, we've got one pitcher/hitter opening the floodgates on that. Billy Wagner pitched with his non-dominant hand, so it's possible to have someone dominant with their non-dominant hand, so why not with both?)
Junniewalker Babe Ruth also struck out a lot; which is the clear comparison to make to Chris Davis. IIRC people don’t remember Babe Ruth for his strike outs; they remember the greatness of his HR
@@renshawjoshua But But But... At the end of the season, he would end up with 20 hrs or so. Would having 10 Strike Outs per HR with batting average below .200 be worth it?? I don't know man...

The only thing I learned from this is how good Hank Aaron was the fact that he was within seven homers of a guy that was more juiced than a Kentucky Derby contestant. Baseball misses Hank Aaron
Did you know in 1995 Tony Gwynn had 535 at bats and struck out just 15 times? That's 35.7 AB per SO. In contrast Judge had 542 AB and 208 SO in 2017. That's 2.6 AB per SO. I'd say they aren't even playing the same game.
Since the mound was lowered in 1969, only four players have had a qualifying season where they struck out less often: - Dave Cash, 1976, 51.23 AB/SO - Tim Foli, 1979, 38.00 AB/SO - Matty Alou, 1970, 37.61 AB/SO - Felix Millan, 1974, 37.00 AB/SO
It's not a question of who's better. A team needs players who can get on base, and those who can drive them home. Even when Gwynn was hitting .370, if the Padres had no power hitters Gwynn was going to be stranded often. And if the Yankees don't have a good leadoff man most of Judge's homers will be solo shots.
Checking in again in 2024 about 2/3 through the season. Stanton is leading this cohort, but is still 687 back of Reggie as opposed to breaking the record. He's actually had a good year so far (OPS+ 119), so he may play another four seasons or so, but he's missed about 30 games and missed 50+ each of the last two years, so I'm betting against him ever breaking the record. Harper is well back of pace with 1,474. He's missed some time as well post-COVID. His SO% this year is still kinda high (20.6%), but lower than his career figure. I wouldn't bet on him overtaking Reggie. Judge is WAY back at 1,149, both because of some missed time and lower SO%. Trout is closer at 1,485, mostly because of his injuries. Gallo is way back at 1,261 and may be on his way out - he's only topped 100 OPS+ once since this video, and then only barely (101 in 2023). I feel safe in saying that none of these guys will pass Reggie, mostly because their bodies are breaking down. Like I said two years ago, there seems to be a weird correlation between high strikeout rates and injuries - as Foolish says, big bodies break down.
I don't think he's going to strike out anywhere near 212 times here in 2020. Also, if the O's even get close to finish rebuilding before his contract is up, he's going straight to the bench if not released.
End of 2024 season update. Stanton cant fully stay healthy to break the record, jugde might have a chance with his 10 year contract, Harper's odds are low, trout cant fully stay healthy to break the record, gallo's career is almost over and not even close to the record, and upton is retired

Joey Gallo currently has 93 home runs in his career, and only 85 singles. Not really relevant to whether or not he's good, but it's absolutely fascinating. He also hasn't hit a sac fly despite his nearly 50% fly ball rate. He is, in my opinion, the most interesting player in the league.
@@CrestfallenLizard 100% agree. He's fascinating. Also, he's like Bellinger in that he's deceptively athletic and can play multiple positions. He has already started a couple games in CF this year.
I agree, he started when he was 21 and has a 30.1% SO rate. His career started with a 44.6% SO rate so when he starts to decline his rate is sure to go up. Given that there seems to be an abundance of teams willing to sign players for absurd amounts of time for a shit ton of pay because they had a few good years, it is a fair bet.
@@OtKH00 You've fudged the numbers a little a bit. Baez started at age 21 but didn't get a full season until he was 23. He has a 30.1% K rate THIS YEAR (small sample size), but a 28.2% rate for his career, including 25.9% in 2018. I'm not saying he can't do it, but your numbers make it seem like he's a slam dunk. Consider this too. He may be able to pass Jackson, but who will be the champ by then? Will he be able to pass Stanton if that's the case?
Another addendum: Freddie Freeman may have entered the discussion five years later. He has 1,603 Ks for his career and is playing great at age 34 (152 OPS+ this year, and leading the league in games played). He probably won't pass Reggie, but the only guy in this video he currently trails is Stanton - who is the same age but isn't playing nearly as much.
Pre 2024 season Stanton currently has just over 1800 but was on pace for about 2100 if Covid didn’t happen and a slew of injuries in 2019-2021. Given his recent productivity decline I’m curious how he’ll finish, I don’t think he hits 3k like OOTP said lol but if he can stay healthy and actually plays for another 4-5 years he has a legit shot. The only other guys I think are even in the convo are Trout, Eugenio Suarez, Harper and maybe Judge if he plays that long and starts to strike out like his younger self did since he’s really brought his numbers down. Ohtani is also a possibility but a complete wildcard tbh, some other potential dark horses imo would be guys like Devers, Correa, Lindor, Moncada and even younger guys like Acuna but there is a lot of guessing and projection with all them so it’s a hard call right now.

It saddens me in 2024 to see the only thing about that OOTP projection is Justin Upton being retired and it happening 2 years sooner. All the other players have far less K’s than we hoped (injury and in some of their cases improvement) and Stanton leads active players but is still under 2K 😔

Mark Reynolds is one more, but his seems to be more or less injury plague dependent. The more injuries happen to other teams, the more value Reynolds has as a veteran with stats poor enough to command minor league contracts to start seasons. 3 years later, just took a look at the career strikeout leader board, and I'd say harper is the only active player with a realistic chance of catching jackson
I want to take into account divisional pitching teams such as the Cleveland Indians, who are strikeout machines. The pitchers that these players face give them more of a chance to strike out than players in other divisions. Of course, the OOTP sim gave a scenario of what might happen, but I think we need to see the highest strikeout pitchers with the longest contracts, and find players from that division, also on long contracts.

Love the rant on Aaron-Bonds LOL.....I also think you are right! In regards to the most career strikeouts, out of the guys you discussed I would go with Judge. You can move him the 1st base, plus he plays in the AL East. And outside of freak injuries, he's pretty durable.

Gen 2 Pokemon ruled. I will say this, the music in the Worst Call Ever Vid is too long. I figured out who to tone it down around the time I did the Larry Walker and Ichiro videos.
One name that popped into my minded is Dave Kingman. I just look him up and am a bit surprised he "only" had 1816 strikeouts. I could have sworn he had more than that. Still, he had a 24.7% strikeout rate. If he would have had one or two more productive seasons we would be talking about him in the top 10. Sadly, he had a 90 OPS+ in his last season (1986) despite hitting 35 HR. That's because he had a whopping .255 OBP that year, which is horrendous. That was one guy that was interesting to watch.

Seeing Joey Gallo on this list from 3 years ago is made all the more funnier given his current circumstances, he is ON PACE for this
Giancarlo in this simulation seems like a HOF player
If he continues how he is going he could maybe make it in
You forgot one key strat to have when specifically trying for the all time K record: Be the only option on a team whose front office might as well not exist. *cough*Chris Davis*cough*
It saddens me in 2024 to see the only thing about that OOTP projection is Justin Upton being retired and it happening 2 years sooner. All the other players have far less K’s than we hoped (injury and in some of their cases improvement) and Stanton leads active players but is still under 2K 😔
0:12 AMONGUS AMOGUS SUS SUS AMOGUSS SUSJUSUSUSU
I lost it when you said 'Joey Gallo is a strikeout deity' 😂 I can't understad how Gallo is still in a MLB roster.
Cause he has no trouble hitting 40 homers in a season maybe? Lmao
@@hankglidden1463 Yeah he hits 40 homers and drives in 60 runs while striking out 250 times. Dude should be a future HOF if he made a little bit of more contact.
@@azathoth0820 Absolutely not, he's talked about this at length, he's the three true outcomes God and that's what has brought him success. Honestly if everything came together I think he could lead the league in home runs, walks, and strikeouts. He could be Adam Dunn with plus defense.
It wasn't easy to concentrate on what you were saying while listening to the magnificent OST from Zelda the Minish Cap... Please do more like this ! Baseball+Zelda = The ultimate combo.
Have you seen my other videos? There's more of this, just not with Zelda haha.
@@FoolishBaseball I saw everything of course, always enjoying your videos but this one, with Zelda and especially this game, brought back some good memories ^^ Love your work, best baseball channel on YT so good luck for everything ;) By "do more like this" I think I wanted to say to never stop that kind of videos :D
you channel is incredible; youitube was long overdue for some quality, baseball-centric content; keep it up!
The best youtube channel. Hands down. The "Big attractive" edit. i was dying.
Excuse you, it's Large Attractive
Get his wrong nickname right... wait that doesn't make sense
I thought that was his nickname
@@FoolishBaseball nah its big sexy. Witnessed the phenomena with the twins a couple years ago. Lol
this dude really predicted among us 0:15

Bobby Cox has an unbeatable record of getting thrown out 158 times
Thank you for posting this 🤣🤣🤣 ... From a Braves fan 👍👌😎✌🌎
I remember his last regular season ejection. I was there at Shea Stadium. I didn't realize he'd been ejected until reading the box score after the game. The umpire didn't do the exaggerated "yerrrouta here" gesture.
@@MrEvanfriend 👍👌😊✌🌎😎
With video review and even possible robo-umps we just won't see the frequency and intensity of arguments anymore. So yup, Cox's record might stand forever.
Dude the work that went into this. Well done man, I thoroughly enjoyed it
welp the trout one is kinda sad ngl. injury after injury in the 2020's
yeah, it kinda hurt watching this now knowing what happened
Baseball is only my third favorite sport. Behind Football and Soccer respectively. But you're my favorite content creator. I actively sit through the commercials just for you! Keep it up!!!
dolla dolla dolla bill y'all
I love these videos, such high quality content for baseball fanatics like me
Glad to hear it!
What about Chris Davis, the G.O.A.T?
Yonathan Gonzalez he’s a better pitcher than hitter
Captain Clorox Chris Davis is so much of a goat that he can break the record for striking out as a batter and for striking out batters
4:25 did you just combine the words "predict" and "project" and think no one would notice?!
"predjict"
this is amazing. i know you put time into these and that's why they're so good but i can't get these fast enough!
Much appreciated. All things in due time.
Haha, the Fernando Rodney joke was great. The FRE is a bumpy ride indeed.
Gotta love it though. That one season he had with Tampa was legendary.
The FRE is one reason I loathe relief pitchers haha
The olden video game style - including music - is awesomely done. Award winning quality here.
And award winning quality twisted humor. ~"Despite his age, he's still managing to deliver remarkably high numbers in his quest" or such
"his late start isn't particularly confidence inspiring" - har har har
Thank you very much!
Maybe Yoan Moncada, but Stanton is just too great.
Moncada definitely has a chance. So do Bellinger and Story.
@@FoolishBaseball Moncada is improving a lot so too early too say wether he is a big strikeout guy or that was just his down season I think he will be a 120-150 a season type of guy also if Chris Davis has a good season maybe do him and paul Goldschmidt
Nah, it won't be Moncada. I'd be more inclined to believe Stanton, Gallo, or Story
Mark Reynolds is one more, but his seems to be more or less injury plague dependent. The more injuries happen to other teams, the more value Reynolds has as a veteran with stats poor enough to command minor league contracts to start seasons. But his hold is short lived as his signings seem to be any team wants a 1B/3B who hits 20+ HRs at the price of .180-.220 BA and high K rates of Gallo like status.
@@jimc.goodfellas Agreed. He got a bunch of called 3 strikes that were on the corners. He showed major improvement in 2019 when moved to 3rd and not taking as many pitches. Watch him become superstar as he gains experience
obsessed with seeing this almost three years later and like,,, gallos won two gold gloves and had a weird walk surge while also striking out so very many times
0:12 guys he said the thing
omg he said it again 0:14 :0
amogus
best baseball channel out there, period.
Children: Do rebuilds on MLB the show
Real men: Do rebuilds in OOTP
I love your choice of music in the 8-bit variety. Its so nostalgic.
These videos are the best I don’t know what I would do with out them
Me either tbh.
@@FoolishBaseball lmao
13:21 HA, it didn’t take until 2024 for joey gallo to hit .181 he did it last year, and this year!
Foolish Baseball uploads, I watch. Very Simple
Edit: OMG thanks so much for the likes, I have never gotten this many, or a YTber response. Love your channel bro keep up the good work
my reaction time is never faster, I don't even have to think about it, just click
Folks, it's really that simple.
Yankees fan. Very simple.
Lol award speech edit
He'd like to thank the academy.
Love these videos man, hopefully the uptick of fame will help make more of these, more frequently.
comparing the projected totals to their actual totals may seem like the simulator overshot, but you have to remember that most everyone played 100 fewer games in 2020
It’s a testament to how good your videos are that I am now hooked and cannot stop watching despite the discovery that you are a dastardly Braves fan
Sincerely,
Mets fan
Tsk tsk
Would love a progress update on this one!
Discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm loving the content. Keep it up!
Thank you cheese master!
Glad we agree on the Bonds debate!!!
So happy to see another upload!!! Keep it up
Thanks dude!
If Khris Davis was a bit younger he would have a great shot also if Mark Reynolds gets playing time he will probably do it
Yeah Davis got his start too late. I don't think Reynolds is going to play long enough to get it, but he may make me eat my words.
@@FoolishBaseball Yeah about Reynolds I a agree with Davis yeah
@@FoolishBaseball Miguel Caberera is closer then I thought but he wont get it
@MetalCrow448 TRue but his baseball powers mya have been given back he has having a lot of bad luck this season If he contuins hitting the ball as well as he is he should get some more hits soon
Khris or Chris? Both, probably
im binging all of these videos and love that every one has one of my favorite soundtracks
omg the dark souls reference FB i love you
I haven't played much but I had roommates who were obsessed. Cool series of games.
I love your videos. Great one. You actually put effort into your vids
A video about baseball with Zelda music in the background? Yes please!
So informative and entertaining. Keep it up!!
3 years later, just took a look at the career strikeout leader board, and I'd say harper is the only active player with a realistic chance of catching jackson
Dude, you make the dopest baseball content.
Made my day, thanks.
Who else can’t wait to see what Aaron judge looks like when he’s 40
I think we just caught a glimpse with the, err, illustration.
I wanna see what rafael devers looks like when he's 40... dude has the biggest baby face

Gallo decided he really wants to get the most strikeouts this season lol
I want to take into account divisional pitching teams such as the Cleveland Indians, who are strikeout machines. The pitchers that these players face give them more of a chance to strike out than players in other divisions. Of course, the OOTP sim gave a scenario of what might happen, but I think we need to see the highest strikeout pitchers with the longest contracts, and find players from that division, also on long contracts.
That's a good point actually. I think Houston is the staff that gets the most strikeouts.
I'm sorry for pausing your video, please forgive me.
You're the first person to apologize, so I'll accept. Remember, pausing a video is an invasion of privacy. I put all kinds of things in my videos for safekeeping, like grocery lists and social security numbers. That doesn't give you any right to pause.
@@FoolishBaseball Could you please grab some more milk? I had too many hot wings and drank it all.
Love the rant on Aaron-Bonds LOL.....I also think you are right! In regards to the most career strikeouts, out of the guys you discussed I would go with Judge. You can move him the 1st base, plus he plays in the AL East. And outside of freak injuries, he's pretty durable.
Judge has a really good chance to beat Jackson. I really think it's just of question of if Stanton or Upton will get there first.
The Barry Bonds rant had me in tears. So glad we agree on that bastard.
Your music choice being so good is such a double-edged sword lol, and only because sometimes it's such good video game music that I can't focus on the narration
The video about the worst call with the gen 2 Pokemon music....that one was a battle
Gen 2 Pokemon ruled. I will say this, the music in the Worst Call Ever Vid is too long. I figured out who to tone it down around the time I did the Larry Walker and Ichiro videos.
1:47 haha. I thought you lapsed into bad English for a moment “Adam done struck out” yee-haw!
Ride em cowboy
#5, the era you play in. Because of strength increases, players hit the ball farther (HR's), throw harder (K's + fewer innings pitched). 5:00
If you play MLB the show, Joey Gallo is a certified god
One name that popped into my minded is Dave Kingman. I just look him up and am a bit surprised he "only" had 1816 strikeouts. I could have sworn he had more than that.
Still, he had a 24.7% strikeout rate. If he would have had one or two more productive seasons we would be talking about him in the top 10. Sadly, he had a 90 OPS+ in his last season (1986) despite hitting 35 HR. That's because he had a whopping .255 OBP that year, which is horrendous.
That was one guy that was interesting to watch.
If only Michael Jordan's prolific baseball career hadn't been cut short by some other nonsense, I think he would have it under wraps
The Looney Tunes just had to drag him back into basketball...
Looking back at this sim and comparing the 2021 season to this sim projections, actually not that bad
I'm legit surprised you didn't list Chris Davis..
LOVE the nameless king bit lmao you’re the man
