Thank you so much 😀 thanks for watching. I’ve only been woodcarving for a little over 3 years and started this channel about the same time. It’s growing though thanks to people like you. Working on a brown trout now.
Really enjoyed this whole series Danny, Great Job explaining all the the processes! Keep up the Good Work. Let's go Guys get Danny over that 1K mark "Hit that Subscribe button"
Thanks Ron, only 54 subs away! it was a fun project and I learned a lot from it. Working on a couple miniature projects next. Then I’m kicking around doing a rainbow trout
Unfortunately, our life has accelerated with the advent of the Internet and the development of technology. Only work ... work, you have to slow down a bit and press the brake, we need to dedicate ourselves to nature and the river, the river takes away worries and stress 🙂🙏
@@makinglure I still make time to go, and I spend nearly 3 straight weeks in the fall deer hunting. Retirement is fast approaching and I’ll soon have all the time I need (provided my health hold out) to fish on tuesdays and Wednesdays when everyone else is still working so I’ll have the lake nearly to myself. And carve the rest of the week 😜
Well done...I am working on some black crappie reproductions now and doing a lot of trial and error with the painting. This is the closest to what I'm going for I've seen. Great job
@@Danny_Harris-Arts Not gonna lie...It will be a WHILE before I crank out anything too exciting. I am a total amateur. i managed some good casts but my painting is a work in process. I am really working up to my personal best Brook Trout that's stashed in my freezer! Crappie are easy enough to catch that I can grab one to work on any time. 6lb brookies are a little harder to come by. Thanks for the sub! I'll be following
Great video, the painting was great but you put black/green markings then yellow, blue, yellow again then blackish markings again. How would I know what order or how did you know? Also must have missed it it did you carve those fins Thanks!
I put the first dark markings down on a silver or pearl base then build up transparent layers (in order) of yellow, blue, green over the top then start adding darker color over the spots and lastly tip each scale with a highlight color that may vary from light to dark. I usually have multiple reference photos and try to match the general look. And finish with iridescent paint and powder. If you’ll go to the playlist there’s you find the black crappie playlist and all the videos in this series from start to finish are there. Including carving the fins. I believe it’s the second video. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching
Ha! Thanks! I went crappie fishing today. My friend and I split the catch and put 3 one gallon ziplock bags of crappie filets in the freezer after frying enough for the wife and I
Thanks, and thanks for watching, I hope they are helping. I use Tueplo almost exclusively and I buy it in 24 x 12 x 10 in blocks. So far Most fish I’ve been carving are seldom over 20 inches long. Depending on the size and movement of my project I can get one to four fish with enough material to make fins. I save almost all the scrap and use it to make rocks for habitat bases. I’m actually about to start a video on making habitat bases and I’ll show the process of carving the scrap pieces into rocks.
Hi Danny just saw your giant Calico bass reproduction. That was amazing with all the colors. Couldn't tell the difference from a real Calico Bass, which is what we call them here in New Jersey I wanted to ask you have you ever painted a chain pickerel, I'd love to see your take on that's really cool fish! Could you please paint one carved out of wood?
Yes it’s held every two years. The next one will be in May 2024. I hope it’s back in Springfield Missouri again because it’s only 4 hours from me. It’s the World Taxidermy and Fish Carving Championship.
Hi Danny, looking good. Question What brand of Air brush set up do you use? Where do you get your colors for the Air brush? Hobby Lobby? Have you tried simple spray paint primer for any of you fish? Where do you get your patterns for you fish? Thanks for your teaching
I use a Iwata Eclipse airbrush and I use cheap Apple Barrel, Folk Art and deco art acrylics. I also use a few colors of createx airbrush acrylic. It’s quite a bit more expensive but it flows well in the airbrush. I also use a reducer that I make myself. I plan on making a video on how to make it this weekend. I used to just thin the Hobby Lobby paint with water and it was hit and Miss and frustrating to use when trying to do tiny detail. but when I started using the reducer it flows 10 times better.
Danny the crappie looks great. I ordered some Tupelo wood from the gentleman you hooked me up with in Carolina Call or look me up if you’re ever in the Piggott Ar area. Thanks again. Barry Johnson
I used Payne’s grey with a little white just to lighten it ever so slightly. Theres also a touch raw umber to dull it down slightly but not enough that you can the raw umber color.

Yeah I’ve heard them called that before along with several other names, white perch, sac-a-lait, speckled bass, strawberry bass, calico bass. Just depends on what part of the country you’re in. Here in Arkansas it’s just crappie. White crappie and black crappie. There’s also one with a pigment abnormality some people call a magnolia crappie. They have a solid black stripe down the top of their back down to their mouth.
That sure looks good Danny. I’m waiting for it to start swimming. 👍
You are a true artist. I don't know how this doesn't have more likes! I can watch you work all day long, absolutely mesmerizing !

Caught a grass sack full had fresh crappie all winter.yum
@@stephenhall5430 yeah I love eating them also, but I’d pass up a plate of crappie filets for a plate of big ol bluegill 🤪
Hi Danny love your tutorials, could you provide the size of wood you use when starting your fish projects? I'm just starting to learn
