Damn, if Q-Tip who cosigned a once a generational talent like J-Dilla, and can't get Megan on a similar plain with the record labels. What made me thought I was able to cosigned an actor back in 2014 to be work on a film project that I had a connect to. Your story reminds me of the time I took a friend of mine to a Talent agent I knew. One day she invited me to a party she threw and I brought this actor who’d just been fired from a PUBLIC ACCESS SHOW!! He was respectful but when he stepped away he (a brotha) pulled me to the side and told me not to bring him around this small time Chocolate 💩. That girls friend who was developing the show was Issa Raye and role she pitched him on was Lawrence.
Those record labels used rap as a “ Disposable Arts”! Basically rap artist were used like napkins, once your done with it and you can’t get value from it no more - toss it to the side and get a fresh new one! Wash, rinse, repeat!!
I get what math was saying, he didn’t really expound on it enough for Tip , but what I think Math was saying was, there’s a assembly line of rappers in the south that keep getting presented to the masses, gucci, future, yo gotti, young thug, lil baby, etc r constantly putting ppl on to the point where the south won’t fall off, cuz they always thinking ahead of the game and keep new fresh artist no matter what, while New York rappers that r in position aren’t quick to put other New York artists on
Same with the west coast. Everybody not from the south always calling conspiracy but in reality people mainly only be trying to get their artists and homeboys on. If Nick Cannon was thinking like 'if I can't sign her then I don't have time for her' we might have never had Kehlani's career. Same with MC Serch and Nas. If u doing it for the culture we should just be offering helping hands to all those we can because we recognize the talent and grind...
Yeah the example I always use is: De La Soul putting Mos Def on Stakes is High, but Mos Def has never put a new artist from NYC on any of his records. The chain of dope artists putting on dope artists got broken around 2000 or so, particularly in NYC
It was early 90’s and this was the first time Tribe called Quest came to Houston Texas. They was doing a show at this club that was by the Astrodome (forgot the name of the club). Me and my homeboy/DJ at time was blessed by IcyHOTT of (Street Military) to get us back stage. When we got back stage it was a lot of people standing around and chatting and you could hear Big Mellow(Houston rapper from Hiram Clarke) jump around and talking loud, He was excited…he just signed to Rap-A- Lot ….which was dope. So as I walked further back in this really big dressing room I seen a cipher going on. As I walked up a very well known and talented rapper that went by “Jonny Quest” at the time was rhyming and on the other side of the cipher bobbing his head was “Q-TIP”. So after JQ finished his rhyme and all the daps was giving for the tight verse, I ask Q-TIP can I rhyme for him and in a very humble manner he said yes. So I kick one of my rhymes. Q-TIP stood there…he didn’t bob his head or nothing, he just stood there and listened. When I finished everyone around was like “wow” and Q-TIP look in my eyes give me dip and told me that was dope as he and the other walked off (I guessed it was the end of the cipher lol) so a I stood there by my self I seen a couch behind me, so I sat down all by my self ….just chilling. Then here comes Q-TIP walking back over to me by his self and ask me “what your name, what you go by” I told him “KZ….KZ the THINKER” he said “thinker? as in T-H-I-N-K-E-R? (lol he spelled it out) I said yes and he give me the head nod of approval as he look back a me as he was being called to the stage. It was a fantastic show and I went home not thinking of the encounter. BUT HERE IS THE KICKER! Some months later a radio DJ told me that Q-TIP was looking for me, the radio DJ said he describe me and everything….I told DJ “stop bullshitting”….he said “naw man, he was really looking for you!” All could say was “wow”. To be put on by the Great Q-TIP would have been one the greatest dreams. So Q-TIP is a stand up guy and if he see the talent he would try to put you on. AND IM FROM HOUSTON TEXAS, so it was never where you was from. So all in all I end up getting signed to a local record label that knew nothing about the record business or what to do with us. Cosigns don't weigh as heavy anymore, social media has watered the cosign down, because all you have to do is get a pic with a celeb and write a corny ass caption
Megan is such a beast on the mic, she is also incredible with the lyrical ability. And also the punchlines go by so fast, u don't even notice it. I love Megan's style
Her new shit ain’t that great cause she gotta play by industry rules to get airtime but I remember them freestyles earlier on when she used to go in, she definitely got real talent...
@@dawb86 this is the reason why I didn’t like her going to the label where she’s at now. 1501 was perfect for her, both are up-and coming and she could be her raw creative self. 60/40 was a good deal that her mother and the legal rep negotiated for her.
Dreads dude be speaking out his as$ because the ogs ego is large too and when the young artist get bigger they want to work with them n when young dude say no they feel slighted
YOU NEVER KNOW WHO IS GONNA BE THAT NEXT STAR. RECORD COMPANIES HAVE NEVER TRULY HAD THEIR FINGER ON THE PULSE OF HIP HOP ESPECIALLY WITH A COSIGN FROM OTHER INFLUENTIAL EMCEES🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Yes the title gave it away but the way Tip can set up a story and tell it. Woooo chile🥴 Megan is SPECIAL and anyone that appreciates real hip hop will appreciate her. Yes she twerks blah blah blah but absolutely no one can deny her pen game!!
The topic of emcees co-signing other artists had me thinking. Not gonna lie, Lox/J-Hood came to mind, but also a couple other examples (Sad b/c I shouldn't have to think so hard. Also, all of these are arguable) Dipet/Vado, Prodigy/Flee Lord, Busta Rhymes/Roc Marciano...
Ny Artists don't own the labels like other regions. We are just realizing icons like De La Soul were in fucked up contracts. I think that is a big part of it. The other regions put themselves on and have more ability to co-sign due to more ownership.
It’s not a tough question, people be scared to look down from where they came, they don’t like being reminded of what and where they used to be, always looking for someone equal or above them to keep them afloat. The industry and fans make artists feel like there Dan only be one.
_My cousin got out of the rap industry because he became informed what’s really going on and this is back in the early 2000s rappers were joining the Boule or the Boule was coming after rappers_

Every time I’ve heard that dude with the white tee speak…. It’s like- he’s letting ppl that want to get into the industry know. And letting fans, know how the sht work.. appreciate that dude.
They passed up MEGAN THEE STALLION??? Wow what a story
Cosigns don't weigh as heavy anymore, social media has watered the cosign down, because all you have to do is get a pic with a celeb and write a corny ass caption
Pretty much why Snitch9ine kept snapping pics with dudes left and right that hardly knew him earlier on lol...
Absolutely 💯
Math keep doing your thang great guess & conversations
The gentleman with the white t shirt and the locks, whats his name? I wanna hear more of him, hes is utterly intelligent and bring up amazing points.
The irony of them talking about the young guys feeling entitled while having a TOP TEN GOAT EMCEE in the studio and not letting him speak smh 🤦🏽♂️
Great content💖
She’s a female juicy j

Love this show man. Wish smart was on this one
If you've never broken an artist, don't speak like dude in the middle did
Wow 😳 Great story,, The morrow of the story is,, record labels we need to get back to looking at talent and not numbers 💯
Megan Thee Stallion is a star now. Funny how things come in full circle.
Ok you earned my subscription
wow that was dope ....
Much Gratitude
11:58 meghan thee stallion talk starts here👍🏾
Thank you for the wisdom!
People forget Qtip consigned Saigon, he put him in his current top 5 in the early 2000's
cosigned him hard. Conveniently didn't mention that LOL. Saigon was straight wack
Ppl?! Shoot Qtip forgot lol but yeah I def remember. Record companies and radio effed him up as well as some of his ego. Dope till this day tho.
@@tochiRTA your opinions are trash af lmao

@@ACE330 do you know this answer 👆🏿? Don’t know why, I just know that he was 🤷🏿♂️
Dreads dude be speaking out his as$ because the ogs ego is large too and when the young artist get bigger they want to work with them n when young dude say no they feel slighted
Wowwww that’s crazy!!! 🔥
This podcast is what the game is missing... keep ya 🥾 on the neck Math✊🏾
Qtip slapping,🔊🔊🔊 Today...
So happy he said J dilla . The producer that is better than your favorite producer and responsible for a entire sound and careers
@Critique Everything ignore the troll under the bridge .
@2:42 mans in the orange thinking about all the bags he blocked🤣🤣🤣🤣
Period!
Lol “anything specific?” 😆😆😆😆
Wow Powerful!!
New sub here...supporting Our Kings. Phenomenal content!
Q-Tip won’t be baited into a hot take. Smooth 🕶
Ny Artists don't own the labels like other regions. We are just realizing icons like De La Soul were in fucked up contracts. I think that is a big part of it. The other regions put themselves on and have more ability to co-sign due to more ownership.
master p changed the game he did it the right way
It’s not a tough question, people be scared to look down from where they came, they don’t like being reminded of what and where they used to be, always looking for someone equal or above them to keep them afloat. The industry and fans make artists feel like there Dan only be one.
What intro song is this ? Joint is fire ….
Great content.
Dre is unbeatable in a verzuz 💯🐐
cap
@C A Examples?
@@nastynate838 yeah Dre ain’t getting beat he has Kendrick snoop nwa Eminem and a lot of other record
_My cousin got out of the rap industry because he became informed what’s really going on and this is back in the early 2000s rappers were joining the Boule or the Boule was coming after rappers_
You landed Q-Tip. You made it.
Q Tips story at the end proves how these mega distribution companies still want to take advantage of rappers.
I still wanna know what song is that in the intro 🤔
