    The fact that a record executive would have the arrogance, ignorance, and balls to tell Qtip no about judging talent tells you everything you need to know about the people who run the music industry.

    Artist development at labels has been depleted. These labels don't want to put in the work to develop an artist. They want who's hot at the moment and cash out. Once they're done, they're on to the next one who's hot.

    • @terrytarver690
      @terrytarver690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No...they only want to develop untouched raw talent that they see fits in to the business agenda that will cooperate. The amount of talent available is endless. There's only two sides of the coin. There has never been but two sides...The other is I'm ready to do business and don't need development but distribution and a broader reach. If you don't know how the industrial prison complex plays in to it, do the research and you will see clearly the agenda beyond the music...you have the staples and the snacks...the staples are main course...the snack ties you over...

    • @pocketace22
      @pocketace22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @terry tarver. The agenda only relies on how many streams an artist has on Spotify. If they are not in the millions, they don't want to talk to you. The other plan is that they want you to have a certain sound like another artist who's hot. I had a meeting with an A&R one time and his first question was if my artist does music like Drake.

    • @BetterNBetter
      @BetterNBetter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And what they don’t understand is there’s way more money in developing artists that could have longevity in the game rather than keeping a revolving door of artists smh

    • @terrytarver690
      @terrytarver690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pocketace22 uh.... That's business.... There's too much talent for a major label to NEED anyone.... They are no different than any investor in anything. I'm not investing in uncertainty. If your cooking, I can give you a bigger stove... If you ain't even got the stove, what do you want from me unless you have undeniable talent?...as far as sounds, that's just the way it is... Motown has a sound... The reality is it ain't no different than a regular job... If you already nice, they wanna fuck wit you. If you have no experience, you get the same treatment... You can have a great ethic and no experience and sell yourself short $2 on the hour... You get what you negotiate.

      @RFM Recordings The consumer still likes quality but corporations are taking the humanity out of it and indoctrinating people to products they can reproduce like a production line.
      They get a system, hook people to that system and just keep reproducing those analytics. Politicians do it by repeating propaganda often, then, people believe it's true. This is the new system now, numbers, data, screw humanity, give me my money.

    Damn, if Q-Tip who cosigned a once a generational talent like J-Dilla, and can't get Megan on a similar plain with the record labels. What made me thought I was able to cosigned an actor back in 2014 to be work on a film project that I had a connect to.
    I was telling the writer/producer that this actor could be a great part of the film project, and the writer/producer was like, "What can he bring to the table?" I said, his talent, his rap writing skills, he is up and coming with his name buzzing the industry that could bring interest to investors. Long story short, I tried few more times to pitched whenever this actor was getting some shine and landing roles. My cosigned and pitches have no legs because I was a no body. Unlike Tip here who have been around the block, the arrogance and ignorance of them all.
    And, if you read this far on my comment and wonder who this actor I was trying to pitched, you might know him, LaKeith Stanfield. So, it's not only record industry, probably entertainment in general with all these goofies who run it.

I’d known this sista since she’d been a hostess in a crappy restaurant some how we stayed friends (cause I never asked her for anything) as she rose through the business. One day she invited me to a party she threw and I brought this actor who’d just been fired from a PUBLIC ACCESS SHOW!! Long story short she tells him that her friend was developing a show on HBO he’d be perfect for and she wanted them to meet. He was respectful but when he stepped away he (a brotha) pulled me to the side and told me not to bring him around this small time Chocolate 💩. That girls friend who was developing the show was Issa Raye and role she pitched him on was Lawrence.

If Nick Cannon was thinking like 'if I can't sign her then I don't have time for her' we might have never had Kehlani's career. Same with MC Serch and Nas. If u doing it for the culture we should just be offering helping hands to all those we can because we recognize the talent and grind...

    It was early 90’s and this was the first time Tribe called Quest came to Houston Texas. They was doing a show at this club that was by the Astrodome (forgot the name of the club). Me and my homeboy/DJ at time was blessed by IcyHOTT of (Street Military) to get us back stage. When we got back stage it was a lot of people standing around and chatting and you could hear Big Mellow(Houston rapper from Hiram Clarke) jump around and talking loud, He was excited…he just signed to Rap-A- Lot ….which was dope. So as I walked further back in this really big dressing room I seen a cipher going on. As I walked up a very well known and talented rapper that went by “Jonny Quest” at the time was rhyming and on the other side of the cipher bobbing his head was “Q-TIP”. So after JQ finished his rhyme and all the daps was giving for the tight verse, I ask Q-TIP can I rhyme for him and in a very humble manner he said yes. So I kick one of my rhymes. Q-TIP stood there…he didn’t bob his head or nothing, he just stood there and listened. When I finished everyone around was like “wow” and Q-TIP look in my eyes give me dip and told me that was dope as he and the other walked off (I guessed it was the end of the cipher lol) so a I stood there by my self I seen a couch behind me, so I sat down all by my self ….just chilling. Then here comes Q-TIP walking back over to me by his self and ask me “what your name, what you go by” I told him “KZ….KZ the THINKER” he said “thinker? as in T-H-I-N-K-E-R? (lol he spelled it out) I said yes and he give me the head nod of approval as he look back a me as he was being called to the stage. It was a fantastic show and I went home not thinking of the encounter. BUT HERE IS THE KICKER! Some months later a radio DJ told me that Q-TIP was looking for me, the radio DJ said he describe me and everything….I told DJ “stop bullshitting”….he said “naw man, he was really looking for you!” All could say was “wow”. To be put on by the Great Q-TIP would have been one the greatest dreams. So Q-TIP is a stand up guy and if he see the talent he would try to put you on. AND IM FROM HOUSTON TEXAS, so it was never where you was from. So all in all I end up getting signed to a local record label that knew nothing about the record business or what to do with us. We was too futuristic for the time that “Gangter Rap” was coming on strong. There was other major labels (Virgin, Sony) that was welling to sign us, but the local label would not let us go. I was locked in a bad record contract for decades. :(
    But, here is one of two songs that the local label missed all up with the music and sound and put out(SMH oh well what can you do)…it was nice of these two people (I don’t know) to put copies of the record on youtube.

    Ny Artists don't own the labels like other regions. We are just realizing icons like De La Soul were in fucked up contracts. I think that is a big part of it. The other regions put themselves on and have more ability to co-sign due to more ownership.

    It’s not a tough question, people be scared to look down from where they came, they don’t like being reminded of what and where they used to be, always looking for someone equal or above them to keep them afloat. The industry and fans make artists feel like there Dan only be one.
