  • This is the Nautical Angler Series. My brother and I are avid anglers. We spent our summers fishing and living in Central Virginia has its benefits. We are 2 hours from the ocean and about 3 or 4 hours from the National Forests. It is the best of both worlds for any Outdoorsman.
The captain (My brother Jarred) and I have been laying the SMACK DOWN on Doormats (Flounder) from Spring to Fall for quite a few years now. Taking our Carolina Skiff Inshore fishing creeks and inlets. During the summer months we move to deeper water around the CBBT (Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel) and the Chesapeake Bay light tower where there are numerous artificial wrecks that we drift over and pull fish up from anywhere between 50 and 70 feet deep.
Make sure you like and Subscribe to the channel. We have a few videos coming up in the near future to give you tips and show you the very tactics we use day in and day out to land Doormat sized Flounder. Together The Captain and I make a really good team. When the fish seem like they disappear we always come up with some strategy to figure out what they want. So, take a look at last year's video. We caught 14 all together and our biggest was 23 inches.
My brother (wearing the go-pro) showed me up today which that usually doesn't EVER happen, LOL but he definitely smoked me on this trip with his old trusty bucktail!
    Captain Killswitch's Gear:
7' Terimar rod medium heavy rod with a slower tip (Stiffer) to give his bucktail more movement.
#30 Penn Battle Saltwater spinning reel
Spooled with 17lb Braid with it being smaller than monofilament it cuts through the water better and helps stay vertical and there is no line stretch like there would be with mono in 60 FT of water.
3-5 oz Spro Bucktail. Depending on current and wind.
(Important that your line is straight up and down. if your bait moves faster or slower than the boat your line will get scoped out and you won't catch as many fish. If that happens use a larger bucktail until you stay vertical.)
He tipped the bucktails with Gulp Nemesis or a 5" swimming mullet.
White, Pink, and Green are our favorite colors combination for bucktails.
Gulp- We use the same colors as above plus Gulp Salmon (Orange) is an awesome color!
The technique he uses is he lets the bucktail in the bottom then he raises the bait off the bottom about 6 inches then he bounces his rod tip with an erratic motion (important).
I was using a regular flounder rig. I started with live Gudgeons (mud minnows) then moved to gulp and ended up doing better with the gulp.
Make sure to Smash that like and Subscribe button. Make sure you hit the notification bell so you will know when we upload the new tactics and rigs, we have coming out this summer 2022.
    Thanks!
    ENJOY!
