Hi Hometeam, I'm a big fan of the channel. Love that you're focusing on my ancestors in this video. Much love bro. The only thing is that there are a few mistakes in the video. There was no king of Ashanti before Osei Tutu. His father was an Akan noble named Owusu Panyin from the Adanse area. Osei Tutu's mother Manu Kotosii was the sister of Obiri Yeboa the king of the Akan city state of Kwaman (modern day Kumasi). Since Akan people like the Asantes are a matrilineal society, Osei Tutu was a potential heir to the Kwaman throne through his mother. The first time we hear the term Asante in history is out of the mouth of the king of Denkyira, Ntim Gyakari before his execution. He utters "esa nti" which means "because of war". He said this because it was because of war with the Denkyiras that the Akan city states that would form the Asante Union joined together. So I hope this helps you in further studies on Asantes. It's a fascinating history. Thanks for all you do bro.
Correction, Asante was formed after the other kingdoms came together and the Golden Stool was produced. So when Osei Tutu became king after his uncle, it was of the Kwaman state, which was renamed Kumasi after the planting of the two trees incident. It was when the different states came together that they took the name Asante.
To me this explains how all the Akans are related. All are cousins who broke away and form their own coalitions which we now call "tribes" or ethnic groups.
@@rigmarhaynes4197 Yeah all Akans originate from the Bonos. The Bonos are called edikanfo meaning the first. It was from them that the Fantes, Akuapems, Akyems and others split from before being united by Osei Tutu I as the Asantes

Hi Hometeam, I am glad that you are focusing on African history in your videos. I have watched some of your videos and sometimes some of them contain mistakes that some of us overlooked but this video contains lot of mistakes that I believe needs to be corrected. Akwamu: Akwamu is not a town or a city. It was a powerful empire which stretched from the eastern part of what is now Ghana through southern Togoland into Quidah (Juda) in present-day Benin; and also last over 350 years (1505 - 1869). Although, today Akwamu looks small but it was an empire that controlled both inland and coastal trades before the Asante empire came into existence. It was Akwamu empire that helped established the Asante kingdom because the Denkyiras and Akwamus were the only two Akan superpowers by then, and they did not like each other because the Aduana clan controlled the Akwamu state while the Agona clan also controlled the Denkyira state. The Akyme Kotoku which belongs to the same clan as Denkyiras was next to the Akwamu state and was being harassed by the Akwamus so the Denkyira tried hard to protect them from the Akwamus; Kwaaman state, which later became the Asante was next to the Denkyiras and also belongs to the same clan as Akwamus but was being harassed by the Denkyiras so the Akwamus also tried hard to protect them from the Denkyira which brought constant conflicts between them so this motivated the Akwamus to help established them as strong opponent against the Denkyiras but they later became more powerful than both the Denkyiras and the Akwamus, but remains strong ally to the Akwamus. In 1693, Akwamu seized the Osu Castle (the former seat of the Ghanaian government) from the Danish colonists and controlled most of the trade routes from the interior to the coast. Between 1725 and 1730, civil war broke out in the Akwamu state which brought hardship to citizens and some of them were sold as slaves; and were transported to the Caribbean island of St. John; and as result, in 1733, some of them engineered a slave revolt on the island. In 1734 the Akwamus, majority of the Akwamu citizens (rebels) formed alliance with the Akyem (Akyem Abuakwa, Akyem Kotoku and Akyem Bosome), Ga, Kyerepong, and the Dutch forces, and fought against the state, as a result, Akwamu lost the war and the half of the empire; and finally collapsed in 1869. Dormaa: Dormaas belongs to the Aduana family and are blood brothers of Akwamus but a succession dispute brought division among them. When the king of Akwamu passed away, those inline to succeed him were twins. The head of the family and some of the people wanted the older twin while their mother and some of the people wanted the younger twin so to avoid further conflicts, their mother and some of the people left Akwamu with the younger twin and formed new state called Dormaaman with some of Denkyiras they met in what is now Ashanti Region. Later, they inter-married each other and became powerful state which came into conflict with Kwaaman state and led to the death of Obiri Yeboa, the then king of Kwaaman state, so when Osei Tutu, his nephew succeeded him, he decided to revenge and drove them from that area. There is still tension between Dormaas and Ashanti because Dormaas kept the skull of Obiri Yeboa in their traditional capital which infuriates Ashantis a lot. Osei Tutu (Osei Kofi) / Okomfo Anokye (Kwame Agyei Frimpong Anokye): The king of Akwamu, Otumfuo Ansa Sasraku played an important role in Osei Tutu’s life and also protected him from the Denkyiria. His mother’s name was Manu Kotosii from Kwaaman. She was the sister of Oti Akenten and Obiri Yeboah, both late kings of Kwaaman state. When his mother was unable to have children, her brother Obiri Yeboah sent her to a shrine priest called Otutu in Akwamu, in the area which is now part of the Akwapim state for help. She later conceived and had Osei, and named him after the shrine. At his teenage age, Osei was sent to serve at the court of the king of the Denkyirias (Boa Amponsem), and got himself into trouble by impregnating the king's sister. He then ran into Akwamu for protection. The king of Akwamu (Ansa Sasraku) received him and treated him well; and also protected him from the Denkyirias. During his stay in Akwamu, Osei met Kwame Agyei Frimpong Anokye (a.k.a. Okomfo Anokye) who was born in Awukugua, a town within the then Akwamu empire which is now part of Akuapim sate and he became his friend. The oral tradition states that, there was a dispute between Okomfo Anokye and his people so the case was brought before the Akwamuhene, and it was through that Osei met him. Shortly after their friendship, Osei's uncle, Obiri Yeboah, died in their war against the Dormaas; and as a result, Osei had to become the next king. Osei was afraid of the Denkyirias to go back to Kwaaman so Otumfuo Ansa Sasraku detached 300 Akwamu soldiers to guide him to Kwaaman. Upon their arrival at Kwaman, the soldiers settled among them and became citizens of Asafo. They also helped Osei to restructure the Asante army as the replica of the Akwamu army and with the help of the Akwamus, they began series of campaigns which led to the defeat of the Denkyiras and their independence. The king of Akwamu also sent some of the Akwamu citizens called Anumfuo (later Adumfuo) with Osei to assist him the administrative work, and as a result, their numerous Asante who today trace their ancestry to Akwamu. Heavenly Beautifully Black Please don’t assume anything dumb, like the Ashanti are descended from Hebrews(typical of some colonized brainwashed Africans & Afro-Americans esteeming the Judeo-Christian heritage above their own). I am Christian, not by tradition, but by explorative choice. You don’t have to give yourself to it(Christianity)so much so in flesh you deny your own Sub-Saharan identity becoming culture vultures, usurping other peoples heritage. The Ancient Hebrews were NOT black, and Jesus was NOT!

Gosh these stories sound like the bible stories in Kings!!!?👀
Heavenly Beautifully Black Please don’t assume anything dumb, like the Ashanti are descended from Hebrews(typical of some colonized brainwashed Africans & Afro-Americans esteeming the Judeo-Christian heritage above their own). I am Christian, not by tradition, but by explorative choice. You don’t have to give yourself to it(Christianity)so much so in flesh you deny your own Sub-Saharan identity becoming culture vultures, usurping other peoples heritage. The Ancient Hebrews were NOT black, and Jesus was NOT!
Just don't like your intro music. It is very loud. For who uses headphones it's terrible.
All devices have a way to adjust the volume. I suggest you use it.
Marcia well said.💁🏽♀️ it’s that simple.
Stupidest comment here.
Ricardo Ferreira The music is great! Your comment is dumb! Adjust your volume.
