Audi Q7 4M muffler delete follow up with exhaust and stage 2 super charger sounds

  • No aftermarket exhaust options for the 4M Q7, and I couldn't go on without one, so I created an option that I am super pleased with. 1st video got a lot of attention, but was just a quick n dirty vid to share with friends so they could hear it. This one is more in depth with shots of the mod and sounds while driving. I didn't mount a camera off the bumper to get the real clear sound on the pops and crackles at up shift, so I may just have to do that yet.

      Hwy mileage, 56 miles between my house and my girlfriend and if I stay below 80 I’ll easily hit 26mpg. Light wheels, non runflat tires, proper pressures, free’d up exhaust, intake, always a clean fresh air filter($20 on eBay for stock replacement) apr tune, and even a single pulley (which should eat more fuel.)

      Thanks! Yeah, I was totally scratching my head and wondering what the hell I was gonna do... Crazy that are so many of these on the road and no real demand for aftermarket performance parts.. The APR Stage 2 single pully is really all you need though, then the exhaust mod and the rest is cosmetic, all through the H&R springs do make it handle way better, but this is not really the car for corners ha..

      As I know, Magna Flow makes a cat back for the 4L chassis with gas motors, I know because my girlfriend has a 2014 TDI and I couldnt find a exhaust for, but did find one for the gas model. So you're in luck for a 2013 3.0t. I've seen them out there for $800 or so, MSRP is 1300ish. Here's a link to model #15085:
      www.magnaflow.com/collections/audi-q7-exhaust-systems?gclid=CjwKCAiAkfucBhBBEiwAFjbkr5fIyPPCY5jTlX9d8Q57Y_4Rnvkr49Kx5NRCP-0Du6COmDqWtU6ySBoC268QAvD_BwE
      For the drop, I believe the claim is 1.4" front, 1.2" rear, its not slammed by any stretch, but achieves the look and handling I was after without being too low and impractical as a result. I do tow with mine, and I've been impressed with how well it handles it, no compromise to load rating, the benefit of going with a company like H&R.

      Q7 wins on weight at 4900 vs. 5200lbs, but gear ratio might be the big decider. 450 hp vs. 500 on the SQ7, but the gas mileage is the biggest benefit on the Q, I get 26 hwy all the time, and even if its a little slower, it plenty fast with way better mileage and way cheaper to buy used. Would love to open up the exhaust on a SQ7 and hear it roar all day though, not gonna lie there ha.

To do the exhaust, just remove the suitcase behind the bumper and weld in a “y-pipe” and you’ll be pleased. Mine has been rock solid and without issues for years now and still pulls like a champ.

Installation is pretty straight forward, just make sure you tighten clamps well, as the rubber will compress over time and you don’t want a air leak. Highly advise you go back in and double check hose clamps after you’ve driven a few days. Good luck 👍🏼

To be honest, I had a C63 before this, and I stopped missing it once I got this tuned. Plenty of power, and off the line with 4wd and 8sp, this thing will yank most off the line. Really having a great experience with mine, the 3.0t has a pretty rock solid reputation, especially the later year models. I picked up mine with 47k miles on it, water pump went pretty soon after, so I changed supercharger fluid while I was in there, along with both differentials and center dif and trans just to give it the best chance of worry free operation into and beyond the 100k mile range. Can’t recommend the stage 2 SP tune enough, but stage 1 is most of they way there and if you want to play it conservatively a smart move. That said, the tuner shops say there are plenty of stage 2 and 3 tuned 175k+ mile 3.0t’s out there with great compression and running strong. Just try to find one that has been babied, luckily not hard to do with Q7s, and then go through it to set yourself up to win. Best o’ luck!

      @djamesmotorsports  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Love them, the only complaint is the pain it is to get the front springs installed. Did it myself, not recommended unless you have experience. The front upper A arm where it meets the strut has a very stubborn pinch bolt that frankly took me hours to remove per side.
      The ride is great, they know their stuff at HR, still keeps tow capacity too, drives sooo much better, for me it was a perfect addition, looks incredible rides as good as stock and improved handling immensely.
      I did use stock shocks, and actually just bought new OEM rears as one shock is leaking fluid. I think using an AM shock will likely make it harsher with higher damping rates.

      @@djamesmotorsports Thanks a-lot much appreciated. I have a 19 Q7 3.0 with 30k miles for five months now everything is great. I have a small problem, getting a knocking from the front right side when I turn. I dont know if it’s the axle or the ball joint but kind of hoping its the ball joint so I get just get it done with the recall they have. I’ve faced two other issues as well which I have fixed. Firstly, my car started to idle a little rough from time to time and then eventually as I would speed up from say 30 mph to 35 mph at a. slow rate I would lose power and the car would shake. Eventually while city driving i hit the gas and the car shook pretty bad and I got the check engine come on. This all happened in two days. Took it to my indie mechanic and the computer said P2007-2009 intake manifold runner stuck closed. So as we were checking around the engine bay I saw a vacuum hose right next to intake was dangling loose so I popped it back in and my mechanic cleared the codes and they didnt come back. So I drove around for an hour and I thought phew that issue is solved. To my dismay the next day bam same thing, as I accelerate a sudden lose pf power and a shaking of the dashboard/front end. This time I took it to a spot here in NJ that is experienced in Euro cars (i know they have better computers to help diagnose). Turns out I had a misfire on the first cylinder. Changed the coils and now I am good. Was a scare though!

      Sorry so late to respond here, but sounds like a ball CV of knocking in a frequency that is fixed to wheel rotation speed. I have 81k on mine, and no issues with CV axles, so it may be a loose ball joint. Worth jacking it up and pulling the wheel off to have a look. If the CV boot is compromised, you’ll see grease spewed out all around it, typicall the joints fail after the boot does and it looses all the grease. If not, Wiggle the arms to see if u can find a loose ball joint.

    Is your wheel setup 22 x 10.5 square? Is there no rubbing while lowered with 10.5 in the front?

    • @djamesmotorsports
      @djamesmotorsports  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, same sizes and offset front and rear. This is the largest tire possible, so the ride is very smooth, actually better than the stock 21's with the the Runflats with their stiff sidewalls. There is a fender liner screw at the top outside edge that you will rub, but once removed nothing rubs at all, even when fully turned. If I did it again, I might go with a 10 or 9.5 with but move the offset to accommodate the narrower wheel for tge same outer surface position. This would make for a lighter wheel/tire combo that rolls more efficiently (better MPG and acceleration) as well as track straighter when the road has concave surfaces where the wheels travel. Wide wheels wander and a little. It's not really noticeable unless the road is really bad. The look great as they are, from the rear its clearly got a lot of tire, so I'm happy with the esthetic, just sharing that I would compromise esthetic for drive quality and efficiency if I did it again. Cheers.

    Okay we need more info on the build, super exciting to see and nice work!! This might be our next rig to replace our 2013 Q5 3.0t with the same motor. Did you just pay an exhaust shop or did you do yourself? Is there a Trans tune out there? Love the 3.0 supercharged exhaust note and whine. Any drone at all? This would our main long road trip rig so don’t want my wife complaining about that, but she’d love the on-ramp shenanigans, lead foot like me. Our other rig is a B9 SQ5 so stock Q7 won’t cut it, but don’t need overkill SQ7 etc.

      Sorry for the late response.
      Exhaust, had a shop do it, was pretty simple for them. No drone at all, its actually perfect, still tame at low throttle inputs, and growls and snarls when you put you foot in it.. The sharp crackles on upshifts are extra icing on the cake ha.
      No trans tune at the time, worth a double check now, some other tuners might offer. As I know this particular trans isn't easy to crank into, but it might just be a demand issue where it seems Q7 owners aren't typically looking to mod.
      My main comment in favor of this set up vs. the SQ is gas mileage. I average 25 mpg on an hour long trip to with some city mixed in traveling at speeds that would typically not support max mpg. The torque with the APR stage 2 is all you need to tow, and the 440hp with the 8sp is plenty to yank off the line pull hard through to faster than you need. And you can pick up a used Q7 for under 20k these days with low enough miles. These 3.0t motors are bombproof aside from the plastic water pumps that got updated later on (2018 I think). Replaced mine and no issue since, was weeping when I looked. The local Audi tuner says they have a bunch of dual pulley S4's with over 200k miles on them that run like champs with no signs of giving in.

    • @djamesmotorsports

      I actually prefer the ride, less body roll, more positive breaking and acceleration, still comfortable on rougher roads, and by changing to larger wheels and away from the horrible run flat tires that ride like bricks, the net was more comfortable in addition to the more spirited driving characteristics.

    Did u keep the resonators or delete them as well

    • @djamesmotorsports
      @djamesmotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Left the resonators in, just removed the big suitcase muffler at the rear, this way you don’t get drone or too much rasp when it crackles on upshifts.. Removing resonator as well might be over the top and sound like these straight piped mustangs you hear.. The result was a really good balance of tone when low throttle, but opens up when you put your foot in it for sure. Super happy with the result, especially considering there aren’t any options in the aftermarket to choose from, at least not that I could find.

      I went to a local shop and they never suggested the muffler delete and only suggested to start with the y-pipe resonator, which is the one prior to muffler

    Whooooo-hoooo! Time for me to find a shop in my local to delete the muffler delete and tune my 4M Q7 =). Did you do a crank pulley or supercharger pulley upgrade? Let me know when you can fellow Q7 brother ;)

      Hey, thanks, stoked to see I’m not alone ha. Yeah, I did supercharger pulley, and don’t feel like I need anything more, or at least not at the expense of dependability or lower mpg these days. Good luck with your project, I could not do without the tune and exhaust, such a complete change, and it’s honestly faster that you would expect. Let me know if I can offer any insights as you start working your way through things. 👍🏼
