I still vividly remember Mike's rookie year, and I was very sad when he left the Dodgers, but no animosity to him for going into the HoF as a Met. Congrats on election Mike. Well deserved!

Even as a longtime Mets fan I think Piazza should've gone in the HOF as a Dodger since that's the organization that gave him a chance and developed him into becoming a star of the game I respect Piazza's decision, but right is right.

Mike did more in his career as a Met than as a Dodger. The Mets allowed Mike to shine and Mike allowed his teammates shine in NY.

I was there in Dodger stadium when he struck out four times stranding eleven runners. I think three of the four strikeouts were on three pitches too. Sigh.

That's happened to pretty much every player at some point in history including the best of all time

@@xKillZone99 he did it frequently. Then he would go 4 for 4 with a walkoff...../headshake

Mike had more success as a Met than a Dodger

Depends on how you define it. He played 7 years for the Dodgers, 8 for the Mets. His best years as a player were by far with the Dodgers. He never came close with the Mets to the player he was as a Dodger. Dodgers average WAR 7.54, Mets average 4.7. Even if you distill it down to just the best years with each, removing rookie season and rocking chair seasons, he's still way up with Dodgers. He is in the Hall of Fame because of his time with the Dodgers, not the Mets, although the WS appearance helped. Too bad I can't forget how he let Clemens own him.

His peak was arguably with the Dodgers. I say this as a Mets fan.

Had more Homers as a Met but better Average as a dodger, went to the world series as a met and hit arguably the most memorable home run in baseball history as a met. I'd say he achieved more as a met than he did as a dodger.

Even though he’s already in the HOF as a Met. For me, Mike Piazza was truly a Dodger not as Met in my humble opinion. But it really hurts me when he was traded even though I wasn’t born yet before.

Vin Scully was saying some controversial things about Piazza in his final months as a Dodger and as he was going through those failed contract negotiations with the new ownership FOX and I'm not sure if they buried the hatchet or not but Piazza believed Scully turned Dodger fans against him.

FAKE NEWS!! Vin Scully or Lasorda never did such things! Dodger fans never disliked Piazza!
The Dodgers traded Piazza to the Marlins during negotiations, but Piazza said if he had known he would be traded he would have signed the deal.

    • @ktbeatty
      @ktbeatty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You believe that because Piazza said that? It's the most ridiculous thing ever said. Go watch the spring training interview in which Piazza says Scully "crushed him." What a joke. Scully, and I listened to him for 30 years, never had a negative word to say about anyone.

    • @Raygreene22

He did that all by himself.

Dodger fans don't care about Piazza or that story. Vin Scully is the best!

Well, there was animosity between Mike and the negotiations with the dodgers and dodgers front office. I have the his article from sports illustrated. Mike had no idea what was going on and they needed to unload him to get “better” and cheaper players. They were negotiating for Mike to have a big contract and the dodgers didn’t want to pay. That’s why it’s considered one of the biggest trades in sports. “A Blockbuster Deal”. He was sent to the Marlins but the Marlins couldn’t afford him and they had catchers. The Mets came knocking and offered to take him for some players. The Mets were negotiating the entire 98 season to give Mike what he deserved.

That is a bunch of BS. We loved the guy and he was a fan favorite. We were shocked and devastated when he was traded. Trust me, to this day, we HATE FOX! Now, we don't care for Piazza b/c of the ridiculous notion he put out in his sorry autobiography that Vin Scully turned us fans against Piazza! Sorry, but NO ONE disses our beloved Vinny and gets away with it! SCREW Piazza!
