- The Indian Rupee are some of the most incredible and beautiful banknotes in the world. The new(ish) series each feature Gandhi on the front and a UNESCO world heritage site on the reverse, except the 2000 which features the Mars Orbiter Mission.

he was from iit bombay if i remember correctly and is now the head of designing department of some other iit. there was an article which i read about the 5 shortlisted rupee symbols all of which had beautiful meanings

A point you missed out is that the Indian currency notes are blind-supportive too. The currency value is printed in Braille so that blind people can touch and feel the currency value

Full disclosure: I am not visually impaired or blind (no disrespect to anyone and apologies in advance if anyone's sentiments are hurt).... If you run your fingertips on the new currency notes you will feel that the denomination are embossed so you know the value.... In addition on either sides (on front face) there are lines and circle.... Example Rs. 500 has 5 lines | Rs. 200 has 2 lines followed by 2 circles and then again 2 lines..... My belief is that it is if help the visually impaired to feel and know the currency denomination. Try it out and let me know

Fact : Did you notice the black lines on left of Indian currency. Well this is given for the help of blind citizens.
By touching the black lines they can easily understand the value of the currency.. Its a masterpiece 👌

Lots of the pre-euro European currencies had no symbol.

Rupees were first used during Maurya Empire a mighty Hindu empire in arround 300 BCE. In India.

Btw: there's a watermark of the denominations on the left of the watermark of gandhiji. You missed it. Also there are 3 different type of symbols and shapes that are printed on the sides by different ink so that the blind people can identify what currency denomination is it.

There are ways around it, but the prediction is that a lot of black money that could be legitimized would now be difficult to do so.
