    Hey Dom! What tripod would you recommend for the Amira for eng style shooting? And would you consider the Amira a good eng camera? I’ve always used sachtler hot pods

    • @DomTheDP
      @DomTheDP  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really love my Sachtler Video 18 tripod head. The Amira has to be the best cinema ENG cams ever made.

    What is that attachment piece that you added to the Amira’s side LCD screen and dials? Thanks!

      It's called Ninja Armor. It comes in a couple pieces designed to protect the Amira's vulnerable high wear areas. My friend Brent in AZ created it. Sadly Ninja Armor has been discontinued.

    Hey Dom, love the channel, just discovered it!
    How would you recommend breaking into the sports videography/documentary space, post-college?
    I went to a big university that was very sports-centric and had the opportunity to do a good amount of video work and short form documentary on athletes and athletic programs, and I absolutely loved doing it. Around the time I graduated, I had the opportunity and was offered what was essentially an entry-level paid internship position with an NFL team. I unfortunately simply could not afford to take the position, as I would not have been able to afford housing or the cost to move. So I regretfully had to decline.
    I ended up taking a full-time position as an video editor at a company a few months later that has not much to do with sports or videography. That was a little under 2 years ago.
    I would like to ultimately end up doing sports videography/editing/documentary production, and my dream would be to work at NFL Films or for the Olympics producing short form documentary content, but
    I am in a bit of a strange position where my current job doesn't have much to do with sports production, and I am past the "recent college grad" stage of being able to apply for internships. The latest sports related doc/feature work I have done was back in college 2+ years ago, and I don't have much opportunity to practice and hone that skill anymore because my full time job is just not in that realm, so I'm afraid, despite my passion for it, I may be a bit out of practice. I do thankfully still have opportunities to do remote freelance motion graphic animation for my old university football program on weekends, but as far as shooting goes, there isn't much opportunity where I am now.
    Do you have any advice as to how a post college grad who essentially wants to switch careers to sports videography/documentary can do so? Or where/how opportunities can be found to practice that skill and build demo-reel content during free-time/weekends, even if working for free?

    Great video! I’m thinking of getting an Amira, but I’m wondering how much lighter it is than the full size Alexa. I used to own a full size Alexa classic and it was a backbreaking beast. So I didn’t film as much as I wanted to because it was just too heavy. Also the classic required a lot of rigging just to get audio in the camera. I had to have a separate preamp, etc. I love that you can just plug-in to the Amira and get phantom power and high-quality preamp’s. So back to the main question, do you feel that the Amira is not that heavy? Or or lighter feeling than the full size Alexa? Thanks

    • @DomTheDP
      @DomTheDP  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Amira is definitely lighter than the Alexa classic and it has built in ND’s! The classic is a tank and the Amira is built for speed. And yes, the built in XLR ports are really nice too.

    alexa mini with 7900 hrs for $13k or Amira with about the lets say same amount of hours for $9500?? love to get your feed back

    • @DomTheDP
      @DomTheDP  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That sounds about right. The Alexa mini has more features than the Amira. The biggest being the ability to shoot Anamorphic. The Amira is the cheaper, more documentary friendly little brother. 7900 hours is a lot. Arri offers a couple paid options to verify the cameras before you purchase. For example If a sensor needs to be replaced that will cost you $10,000+. I’d always recommend having Arri look over any used camera I want to buy.

  • @bullettin
    @bullettin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If buying used, how many hours is too many? I saw a couple posted that had around 2000 hours on one and 6000 hours on another.

    • @DomTheDP
      @DomTheDP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2000 hours and under would be hard to find now. You also should have Arri check the camera and sensor prior to purchase. A new Amira sensor can run around $15,000. You can also pay to have Arri certify the used camera so a warranty can be purchased through Arri.
