You guys make watching what is basically an infomercial a really great experience. Seriously, I am in awe of this kind of marketing, it is special. It's fun to watch, interesting and it actually instills confidence in your skills and professional approach to camera gear.
Love my Amira, really considered stepping up to an Alexa Mini eventually but most Cinematographers I talk to say they’d stick with the Amira, fantastic camera for the price. The weight actually makes it incredibly stable, I’ve run after horses full speed hand held and it looks great.
Honestly to me the weight difference between the two is negligible. I like the Amira more for run and gun as it's just made to quickly be thrown on the shoulder and the buttons on the body are nice too. Really the only thing pushing me to the mini is Open gate and 4:3. How often will I actually use those features though.
A new Amira based of the Alexa 35, weight around 2-3 kg… that’s what I’m (and probably a million filmmakers) hoping for in the coming years. Actually, I’ll start saving for that now. Because - Arri won’t miss out on that opportunity right?
With the power/audio plates available for the Alexa 35 I've been wondering if they're trying to make the Alexa 35 the replacement - but I agree, an Amira 35 would be amazing!
Tiny nitpick… @9:40 Hirose (named after the Japanese company that made the connector) is pronounced “he-roh-seh”, like “hero-say”. That said, “high rose” does sound elegant!
Arri Amira is my favorite camera, you can shoot anything and any type production on this camera. And more importantly, the price is acceptble for a freelance cinematographer.
I shot with it for a year straight day in and out with a production that allowed me to accessorize as we went along for better run and gun performance. Apart from low light performance needing a boost, and it’s weight, it is the best documentary camera out there - bar none.
That is, Arri is immediately sold with the full functionality, but you also need to buy a permit to use this functionality. There is even a license for a week! You have already paid for all the functions implemented "in metal". There is already software that implements this hardware. So why do they sell the license separately from the hardware? After all, they do not sell software along with additional hardware! The buyer has already paid for all the hardware! Goats.
It's crazy how good these "old" cameras are. I love Red, but based only on the image quality, I'd always prefer to shoot on this than even the latest Raptor.
BMD definitely looked long and hard at this camera when they introduced the Ursa Broadcast G2. The flexible format of both broadcast 2/3" ENG/EFP/Studio and full sensor Super35 digital film camera was inspired. I don't think it's take up in broadcast was quite as successful as you suggest though. It's very heavy, power hungry and very expensive, especially with the licences compared to traditional 3 chip ENG cameras and since the introduction of cameras like the PXW-450/750, which are true 4K, with more traditional control placements, eco system and form factors, that ENG/EFP camera people are used to, it was a hard sell and that is perhaps why they haven't really replaced it yet.

I skipped on a opportunity to by a Amira from a local person sub 9000€. Not a day goes by without me thinking if I made a mistake. My decision not to buy ultimately came down to me already heavy invested i Sony. I believe the fx9 with the fullframe+super35 sensor mode, low power draw and autofocus would be more of a benefit for me in the long run if i was to upgrade from my fs7. Nice video. Cheers 🍻
I think the FX9 has definitely become the "poor man's Amira" as far as im concerned. Heck, it even does a few things better than the Amira (much better in low light/4K acquisition in fullframe and s35) Only thing it can't quite match is those Arri colors....and build quality. But sheesh for 14K, it's quite the camera for the money. The Amira is 9 years old and still goes for TWICE that new, which is criminal in my opinion.
In the professional world, the Amira isn't anywhere close to underrated at all. But I do notice how little people talk about versus the Alexa and the Mini''s. Especially since so many people use the darn thing!
What do people think about its "pastelish look"? I've shot a bunch of projects on the Amira over the past six years, and yes, it's an amazing camera, but it will eventually destroy every bone in your shoulder if you're not careful. 😄
if Netflix comes to you to make a movie, serie or documentary, I think you'll get the budget to rent whatever you need 😅And it doesn't matter the camera that you used to shoot your movie/serie/doc (even an iPhone), you are good to go if they like it. The only difference is that they need a Netflix camera if they produce it.
Can you operate the amira without the viewfinder? Thanks. I feel like with the body/small lens/monitor and a small gold mount battery, it wouldn't be that cumbersome
I say this as an Arri Alexa Mini owner, which has the same EVF/LCD screen...But it's a terrible screen for operating from. The colors are just bad, there's a green tint to everything. I always rig up a separate 7" monitor, but then I have basically 2 monitors awkwardly hanging off the camera, one just for going through menus.
@@JeanMarcAbela Rent one 😉 I also have a FX6 but sometimes I rent an Arri or Red (depends of the project).
