This was such an interesting video! I have done a lot of declutters this year and then brought in new decks. I would constantly make myself feel bad about it for culling then buying then culling again. I come to realize that I actually really love having a medium to large collection and need variety in my life. I had this fantasy self in my head that who was a minimalist and only had about 10 decks. But really that’s not the case, it’s the complete opposite of who I am. Ever since I started to let go of this fantasy self, I have felt so content, calm, and happy within myself and within my space.
Wow, I'm going through the same type of decision making this year. This year my tarot purchases have been made entirely by what I call my "higher" brain...meaning I'm ignoring all the mental chatter, repeated old myths about my likes and dislikes, my old beliefs about who I am and what I like, etc. from my lower more primitive brain. I'm allowing myself to purchase and explore decks that I was for some reason telling myself I wouldn't like, I wouldn't understand, decks that would make me uncomfortable because of an old story about myself which is no longer true. This is a spill over of work I'm doing in other parts of my life and amazingly affecting my tarot choices. I am purchasing decks that I had put on the "never" list and SO enjoying them! They are proof that I am no longer " that" girl. I'm not too "dumb" to learn a new system, I'm not "afraid" to feel uncomfortable. I'm loving She Wolfe and Serpentfire, the new Patrick Valenza deck (my first one), Outgrow Yourself, Intuitive Night Goddess, Hardy, Caitlin Mattisson Tarot, Asherah, Telezma.....they share alot of themes that I had given my power over to. The more I ignore that old worn out chatter the freer I feel to explore more and to have fun adding decks I had put in some kind of forbidden box. Thank you sharing your experience with us! You always inspire me to keep growing!
REALLY loved hearing your thoughts on all of this. I've really truly had some incredible deck bonding experiences when I broke my own Tarot rules! The Deviant Moon for example.. or gosh any of the various study rabbit holes I went down!!
Approaching decluttering as making space for new things that will resonate and add to our tarot practices is such a lovely way to look at it! I used to declutter often because I lived in a small apartment but in the last several years of being in a house and having space to spread out, I haven't "had" to declutter, so I haven't. Now I'm looking to declutter again and your videos are helping me see how to go about it in a way that honors my tarot rather than looking around saying, "I've got to get rid off all this stuff!"
Hell yes! Breaking free of that box is so liberating! All lovely decks. I really enjoyed seeing these beautiful decks and hearing your words of wisdom. Great share! I feel like if I am drawn to something there is a reason, even if it is for a short period of time, I never see anything as a waste. I don't purchase for that reason to pass it along, but I do not mind passing decks on to others either, because I have that ability. 💖
You’re so funny!! 🤣😅😂 You know that in the beginning of my tarot journey I said to myself omg I can’t with these photo collage decks and I refused to buy them (i.e., the apocalypse tarot, tarot Illuminati, et cetra…) and then what happened was I bought a gazillion of them afterwards and ended up loving some of them to the point where some of them are in my top 10 favorite decks 🤣😅😂 Never say never because it will bite you in the butt lol
I feel the same way about Liminal 11 decks, but I love my Cosmic Slumber! Also that little piece of cardboard can be removed, it might annoy you less without it in there, it's only there to protect the cards from being damaged during shipment.
I removed that little piece of cardboard too...lol. I still love the decks I have purchased from that company, despite the fact it can be challenging to shuffle. But then, I find shuffling soothing and it helps me to focus when I want to do a reading, so I just used it as an opportunity to explore different ways of shuffling tarot cards.
I'm glad you really like the Cosmic Slumber Tarot. I also really like that one. I made a bag for it that is one of my favorite tarot bags... but yeah, I also hate Liminal 11's boxes. They're really obnoxious and cumbersome.
I'm surprised how much I like this one! I recently got it LN used at a steal w/ L11 velvet bag (those boxes are the WORST! Cardboard inserts?!) but it was never on my radar before. Then I got it and blown away. Never say never LOL! (Cardstock is very slippery & shinier than my 'usual' tastes but not a deal breaker, had worse!)
Yay! Celebrating all the ways our practice grows and changes and how we are on a journey. I enjoy these kinds of shares. Expanding our tarot family, love that. Let's not lock ourselves down in our collection or in life. One of the things I love about tarot is the art and can you ever have enough art in your life?! I appreciate and strive for intention but life is also full of magic and surprises. :) (As an aside, the Cosmic Slumber Deck is an AMAZING reader for me and it was bought on a lark.)
Appreciated hearing your thoughts especially given the swing in the community again. It does seem extremes can become popular whereas in practice these things are so personal, so it's the personal experience I enjoy hearing (as opposed to this, this is how it should be kind.) Lovely video. It's awesome you found something to support you with dreamwork and processing. An invaluable experience no doubt. I also watched and enjoyed your declutters too.
We definitely are on the same timeline!😅 Me too I have decluttered and reorganized every room in my house and my deck collection is going through a similar process. I don’t keep as many though, if I don’t feel a connection after 5-8 plays, it leaves my house again. I am pretty ruthless, trying to keep only the ones that resonate deeply to my soul. ❤️
Very thought-provoking - thank you for that! I have a ballpark figure that I aim to stick to, but mostly because there's only so many decks one can work with in a year, and I don't like to think of decks gathering dust in a forgotten drawer.
I really enjoyed this reflection, I found your reasoning to be interesting and perfectly understandable. Though I do consider if a new deck has a similar purpose or energy to a deck that I already own, I do not let it be a final decision. Thank you for sharing, it was a wonderful before-bed video 💖
Really enjoyed this. I started moving decks on to literally create physical space. But lo and behold... I bought more. Lol. It was more head space I was creating.
I picked up the Intuitive Night Goddess Tarot recently. I wanted it for a long time but couldn't justify another goddess deck. Well... I finally picked it up after trimming down my collection a bit. And wow. What a beautiful deck. We were instant friends. I love the energy of this deck and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite goddess centered decks. Truly inspiring.
Extremely thought-provoking! Thank you for sharing. I found this vid while searching "dream work with tarot" and was so thrilled when you talked about it with the Cosmic Slumber! I've been having non-stop nightmares for 3 weeks now and kinda desperately trying to craft a good dream work practice 🙃 😅
The wandering star, the Animal tarot, the cosmic slumber and the intuitive night goddess are in my collection too for a few months now and I love them. They all serve a different purpose for me. I feel comfortable with all of them. The animal tarot serves as an oracle for me which I pair with the guardian Angel messages. Especially when there's a really busy day in front of me they give me a calm and soothing message in the morning. And I can separate the creator from the cards very well since I I hardly know anything about them when I do my purchases. Have a good time with your decks!
Great video and discussion, can absolutely relate! I'm finally to the space where I'm comfortable with my collection and reasons for it, what I'm keeping, what I'm not, what I'm still wanting and why, and can wait to make a decision-which is a long way from FOMO-OMG-gotta-get-them-all-NOW then deal with THAT aftermath. It's a process for sure 💜😊 (not that it won't ever change because it will and I hope it will, I just had to remember why I'm doing this, for me, and not get caught up in the superficiality that doesn't really matter.
I am kind of glad I bought nothing during 2020 .. all the way until Oct of 2021. I actually wasn’t being wise .. but it started out of a sense of content but it continued because I was dealing with hard times and I didn’t want to face myself or answer any questions so my practice was very limited and focused on oracles. I am actually very picky with my choices. I enjoy taking my time .. I do impulse purchases but that’s when I feel called to but that’s a rarity. Ohhh and as usual, I found something to add to my wishlist. The priestess of light oracle seems interesting. I don’t own any Goddesses decks .. in the sense of multiple ones covered in one .. so I am going to check that one :)
Looooove Cosmic Slumber. It's new to me and it's so amazing for gentle shadow work (for me) and subconscious thoughts. The art work wasn't my aesthetic but this deck really resonated with me. We bonded quickly.
Very informative video! Someone recently made fun of me for my collection (I have many RWS based decks,) and hearing your thoughts made me feel better about keeping what resonates with me personally. I shouldn't let myself feel awful because what other people think I should do...what works for them may not work for me, and that's okay!
I am so glad you found the video helpful! I hard not to get caught up in other people's opinions and expectations, but at the end of the day, all that really matters is what works for you.
Hi there Dawn. Great video. Lockdown decks need no explanation. Good reminder about giving up about control. I had to remind two decks not to control me though! My Capricorn nature carefully researches each appealing deck so there are plenty of deck flip throughs to watch. I can over-ride my few reservations if the deck attraction warrants it. I prefer tarot and oracle decks to fit into a category although I love expanding the borders here! I do like having at least one tarot and one oracle per category but they are free to work anywhere they wish. I try to use the deck differently rather than declutter because I am rarely given decks. Thanks for all the Inspirations.
I was just asking myself yesterday if I want or need more Tarot in my collection because I like all the ones I have and almost feel okay with that. But after listening to myself and to you, I think it’s okay to try other decks and see how they might fit or not fit in my practice.
REALLY enjoying this video💖, need to watch another walkthrough on the cosmic slumber but i dig the color scheme and abstract art, also have been having crazy dreams everyday between 5-9am. It's becoming ridiculous, I nicknamed it my 5 o'clock shadow 🙄🫣 most of the dreams are terrible lol 😅
This is super helpful. I have greatly expanded the number of decks I have over the last year. Still fewer than 20 decks total. I don't want a large collection that I can't keep track of with a bunch of decks that I don't use so I have been getting super picky and kind of bullying myself out of getting more new decks. There is value in working more deeply with and appeciating what I already have. There can also be value in giving something new a chance to, well, bring in something new to my spiritual practice. I want to be mindful about why I want to purchase a deck. Do I really think it will add something to my practice, or am I chasing the temporary fix of a shiny new thing?
Dos the Cosmic Slumber Tarot become more flexible the more you are shuffling it? I have tiny hands and absolutely love this deck for my dream practice as well and find it to be a reason I don't reach for it.
Not that I have found yet, but I haven’t had it that long. I do find that many decks to soften up a bit with wear, I’m hopeful this one will too because I really enjoy working with it. 😀
I’m brand new. I don’t have a collection but still found this fascinating to watch. You mentioned a few times about how you read. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you read tarot? You mentioned combining elemental and numerological (which sparked in me).
What oracle decks do you typically pair with your Intuitive Night Goddess tarot? I love that deck but I've been looking for some oracles to pair with it 😊

Agreed. I stopped with the whole I need decks for certain categories a while ago. If I like a deck I like it, if I don't I don't.
That mindset has been so much better for me. Now I’m not beating myself up over every deck lol.

i had Priestess of Light Oracle but the cards feel like a chalkboard. I had to let it go. it’s beautiful.

I do read based on the element and number as the foundation. I am working on a whole series on it, I hope to have it done soon! ❤️
What oracle decks do you typically pair with your Intuitive Night Goddess tarot? I love that deck but I've been looking for some oracles to pair with it 😊
I pair it with the daily crystal inspiration 🤩👍🏻
@@angelaschredl9245 Ooo, thank you 🥰
In an earlier video Dawn paired it with the Wild Whiskers Oracle ♥️
@@GAwildflower Ooo, I'll look into it.
I usually pair it with the Hedgewitch Botanical Oracle. It's a beautiful match and a wonderful read together.
Rigidity is definitely a struggle for me.
