    Best video review on a Crosstrek thus far. Very informative and super positive. I agree with you on the downshifting capability of the paddle shifters that was great point. Really like that you spend a great amount of time on different angles and camera shots especially the interior. I don't get stoked on a lot of videos I see but I'm pumped with your presentation and just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the idea of downshifting in the winter using the paddles. Here I was thinking they were useless on my new Crosstrek.

      I believe drivers won't even have to bump the shifter over to manual/sport in order to use the paddle shifters, just tap them and voila! you've done it....if you don't tap again for maybe 10 secs, it reverts back to fully automatic. Neat feature.

    • @GreenGenerationTV
      @GreenGenerationTV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      be careful though. Downshifting will cause rpms to go up and put you in a powerband that might make your throttle touchy, which obviously isn't what you want for snow.

    I just wanted to thank you for the idea to use the paddle shifter for pseudo-downgearing! I have been watching many, many reviews of this car, mostly all good, but almost everyone says the same thing; They are completely useless. I never thought about using them as an engine brake! Just brilliant and worth a like and subscribe anyday! Got mine pre-ordered and p/u this week...white and 'Outdoor' Edition 2.5L, cause I'm a canuck and we get lucky this year!

    Love your reviews, always my go to for car shopping! How was the road noise. I know it’s no Genesis G80 with 67 DB at 50 mph. The Crosstek is listed at 73 DB at 50, did it seem loud to you? I love that 43” legroom but on long drives will the road noise drive me nuts?

    • @goldpony
      @goldpony  ปีที่แล้ว

      You should probably be fine with any wind noise. One of those things I think you would get used to and then forget about over time. Most compact cars have about the same amount in the end.

  • @chrisa2223
    @chrisa2223 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like it but why can’t Subaru make the Sport trim/2.5L with the 6 speed manual? And I hate how if you choose the 6 speed in the Premium trim you can’t option anything. No sunroof, no Blind Spot monitor, no adaptive cruise or lane keeping. Mazda and Honda give you safety options with their manual transmissions.

    Hi Pony, great review! I've seen couple of video with the MY21 version of this car but none of them tackled two things: is there still option to turn off the start/stop system and whether this car is equipped with Auto Hold function (I cannot see any dedicated button for this)? Would be great if you could dispel these doubts 🙂

      Earlier models it was not, but for at least 2021, eyesights is standard on all models. If you are ok with the 2.0, it makes the base worth considering. In my opinion a Crosstrek is a great value in the mid $20’s, but not so much in the low $30’s. I have a 2018 premium.

    Are these engines purposely under powered for their size? Or do the non turbo boxer engines just not put out much power?

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No 2.5L produces around 180 HP is just right. If you look at mazda's 2.5L it produces 186.

    • @kevina2052
      @kevina2052 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@441meatloaf If you look at Toyotas 2.5 it produces 206. Toyota also gets better MPG out of it than Mazda. My 2.0 Corolla makes 169hp.. So no, those are both outdated engines in the Mazda and the Subaru.

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevina2052 well subaru 2.5 is from the forestor and legacy that was from 2018 when it got the redesigned to direct injection. The fb25d and the old fb25b is somewhat similar, except it was redesigned to have direct instead of port injection. How much did subaru change, I dont know but the compression ratios are different between the older fb25b. The fb25d uses 12:1. The toyota may have a way higher compression that allows it to squeeze more power.

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @kevina2052
      @kevina2052 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@441meatloaf It's engine output, not power to the wheels. The Mazda isn't all wheel drive anyway. My point was those engines are just older models. Mazda and Subaru are due for an engine upgrade.

    Unfortunately you cannot get a manual with the SPORT and LIMITED. Go figure on the "Sport". Isn't a manual suppose to be "sporty?" Also, on the sport, you should be able to option out everything that is available, like LED headlights for example. Also, Navigation should be available on every model, not everyone has unlimited data on their phone. That is just plain stupid!

    I mean..great Subaru gave it the engine it should have had from the very beginning (it even gets better MPG than the smaller engine..wtf?) but would it have killed them to install a slightly stronger clutch for the sport model? I mean..176 ft lbs torque isnt exactly tire roasting, clutch wrecking type twist. I really like this thing, but cvt only to move up to simply decent, not great power? No thanks.
