Pros Tip: Thick cutting blades for jigsaws

  • Professional jigsaw blades are thicker. At least some of them. And so they are more rigid so they don't bend too much and they can make a better vertical cut in wood. The long professional jigsaw cutting blade that I show in this video is 0.5 millimeter thicker than a usual long jigsaw blade. And that can also be a problem, because to use it we may need a professional jigsaw that has a guide wheel with a wider groove. Because that pro cutting blade probably won't fit into the groove of the guide wheel of most DIY jigsaws.

Here I show how I made my jigsaw jig with bearings to keep the blade vertical so it doesn't bend to the sides when I cut wood:

Didn't even know that some blades are too wide to fit into the groove :) Thnx for video!

Thanks for watching 😀. Also, maybe normal jigsaw blades are not the best option to use with the pro jigsaw that I show in the video

It was also interesting to discover that the groove of the guide wheel in pro jigsaws can be too wide for normal cutting blades

Good information. I have an old jig saw that works reasonably well, not great but functional. It is a tool that gets used about once a year. Generally only when putting on plastic laminate countertops, like Formica. I use a down cut blade designed for that material and find it's nice when I need a precision cut in finished wood when needed.

Some people use the jigsaw upside down, with the jigsaw under the counter top. In that case I see they use barrel grip jigsaws

Interesting! I bought some blades that were too thick for my jig saw. Your video shows me what happened: they are for a "better" jig saw. I don't have one, so I am going to try grinding the ends down just enough to fit the mount, and see how they perform. Without your video, the blades would just sit in my drawer. Thank you!

It would be interesting to have a jigsaw with interchangeable guide wheels, and so use the one that adapts best to the thickness of the blade that we are going use

Hei I have a bosch and a cordless einhell, even if my bosch blade can be atached to the einhell, will drop at first use, how do I determin what type of blades I need like the einhell only came with a kwb has a 6235 on it, does that number tell how thik the blade should be?

Thanks! I never noticed that, but I don't use a jigsaw that often, to be a valid opinion.

Sure those blades are interesting for professional use, but I think they are not intended to get super precise cuts in wood

If blade more thick, the resistance increase, the motor will work harder.

Its made for different jigsaw tools which have powerful motors.

I was thinking I could just make a new guide but the motor may not be powerful enough.

And maybe it won't fit correctly into the blade clamp. I have to check if it fits in the blade clamp of my diy jigsaw
