Japanese Harp: Akino and Yoshino Watanbe and Sumie Kaneko at TEDxBeaconStreet

- Akino Watanabe, an eighth grader who is passionate about bridging Eastern and Western culture through her music, joined her younger sister, first grader Yoshino, on stage at TEDxBeaconStreet to perform traditional music on the koto, a Japanese stringed instrument. Let the Watanabe sisters, along with their koto teacher, Sumie Kaneko, transport you to another time and place with their emotionally stirring recital of "Sakura Fantasy" and "Seven Autumn Flowers." The striking sound of the centuries old instruments conveys intensity, mirrored on the faces of these young musicians whose mastery of the art has led them to perform at Harvard University Kennedy School and Tufts University.
Akino Watanabe is a kotoist (Japanese harpist) in the eighth grade who is passionate about bridging Eastern and Western culture through her music. Yoshino Watanabe is Akino's younger sister and kotoist, who loves not only koto but also the piano, drawing, clay work, and shadow puppets.

I love the version of Sakura it is very beautiful. Yoshino is so brave to perform up there like that in front of all of those people!
1. My expressions about the music I heard happy (Sa totoo lang nauumay ako)
2.The instruments are used in the music samples is koto? (Salamat google akala ko kokoto)
3.Happiness (alaw ako masagot sabi ni tinay "happy lang").
4. By the higher overall pitch help express the mood of the piece (yieee igit ano raw)
5.The song tempo is vary (pataas, pababa, jakol everyday)
HAHAHA
Hahahaha salamat sa koto
Thankyou bhiee
The sound of the Koto is so hauntingly beautiful. It's one of my most favorite Japanese instruments.

True, and the sisters are very adorable. I love watching them play 🥰
Do you know a good Koto builder?

Really lovely music.
Really beautiful music .
this is beautiful
Beautiful kimonos and music.
I had to type out the link cuz my teacher put a photo of the link instead of the actual link itself ma'am naiinip na ako sayo 😀‼️
Growing up in USA one of my teachers had one of these. Very mysterious music. Love it
Sinong andito dahil sa module? Mapeh?
Sumie has the Yamada style - her sitting position is directly facing the koto and her claws are quite poity (triangle shaped).
Great music. The traditional piece from 1:15 is "Omichan No Uta", covered numerous times by Marty Friedman
✨MUDULES ✨
BEAUTIFUL I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LYRICS OF THIS SONG BUT I REALLY FEEL SOMETHING HEALING ME

I remember hearing this on a game from FB. I think it was called Ninja town or was it from a computer game called battle realms
Yea
Hi. Andito din ako para sa module.😀
My module brought me here🎶
I like how they made a spelling mistake in the title
Yea, most people mistake harp with zhither.
Jiaun Mew nah that’s not wht I mean, her name is “Watanabe” but they spelt it as “Watanbe”
Sino mga napadpad dito dahil Lang SA music?
Yun na yun pinapunta pako dito dahil jan HAHAHAHA yawa

le premier morceau je le connais, je l'ai joué, mais à la harpe celtique. Le rendu est quand même meilleur avec le traditionnel

Koto - Japanese Harp. I reckon it's known as Zither in China. Greetings from Great Britain.
(Sun 11 Oct 2020 1458)
In China it's known as the guzheng, zither is a European word.
@@zaarkhananal7165 Guzheng! Thanks, didn't know it. Zither sounds close to guitar as well. I enjoyed some music, esp Korean, from your playlist. Good collection. Will enjoy more ...

I think technically koto is a zither not a harp (has to do with the relation of the strings vs sound board) and yes it did descend from the guzheng. Very nice video. Beautiful!

Hello grade 8
If your teacher really wanted you to appreciate koto music, she should have asked you guys instead to watch the anime “kono oto tomare.” You might just enjoy listening to koto music. Or even want to learn how to play one. I understand this particular piece might sound boring especially to first time listeners of the instrument, and to gradeschoolers like you.
Your teacher is right to expose you to different types of music and native musical instruments from diff parts of the world, but maybe this is not the right piece.
Hi, dinala po ako ni module dto🙂
